HyperWorks + APA for Computational Fluid Dynamics

Altair offers numerous computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solutions with Altairs AcuSolve software plus the complementary
solutions available from our partners through the Altair Partner Alliance. For more information about these products or to

Enabling Human Comfort in Vehicles: AcuSolve + TAITherm

Couple TAITherm by ThermoAnalytics with AcuSolve to design advanced vehicle
cabins based on human comfort, not air temperature.
AcuSolve computes the convection, conduction, and radiation heat transfer within the automobile cabin, while TAITherm determines the comfort of occupant.

Abstract Modeling: AcuNexus + AcuSolve

AcuNexus automates CFD workflows by applying reusable abstract model
templates, SBD CAD models and automated meshing algorithms. This
reduces job preparation time, improves consistency independent of
engineer and ensures consistent simulation results, allowing companies
to run more simulations with smaller teams in early product development.
AcuNexus is a pre-processor developed specifically to work with AcuSolve.

Electromagnetic Simulation to Thermal & Fluid Flow Analysis: AcuSolve + JMAG

The JMAG and AcuSolve interface takes the electromagnetic losses from JMAG and maps them as
heat sources in AcuSolve for a subsequent thermal/flow analysis, while JMAG Manager in AcuConsole
accomplishes the mapping. Alternatively, as electromagnetic properties are temperature dependent,
AcuSolve can output temperature data that JMAG can read to perform an electromagnetic analysis.

CFD Solution: SC/Tetra and scSTREAM

Software Cradle products provide general purpose CFD solver capabilities with
pre-solver-post in one environment. Two different types of thermo-fluid analysis
tools are available from Software Cradle through the APA: scSTREAM and SC/
Tetra. scSTREAM uses a structured mesh while SC/Tetra uses an unstructured
mesh for this analysis.
scSTREAM is more applicable when tiny details and surface curvature or angles
do not have a strong effect on the overall flow field, such as electronics cooling
and HVAC systems. Unstructured mesh contains more complex element shapes,
which provide a flexible way to represent curved surfaces. As a result, SC/Tetra
is better where precise representation of the geometry is critical, such as fan
blades and automotive aerodynamics.
In addition, modules for multiphase flows, combustion models, validated
cavitation models and high speed supersonic flows make them an attractive
offer for specialized applications.

Electronics Cooling Simulation: ElectroFlo

ElectroFlo is a CFD-based software package capable of solving
problems involving conduction, natural and forced convection,
radiation and conjugate heat transfer. It was developed exclusively
to address challenging electronics cooling and design issues, but
remains easy to understand for non-CFD experts.
By coupling electrical and thermal CFD, ElectroFlo can analyze selfheating effects and it includes embedded liquid cooling channels
to allow users to define model details and levels of accuracy
necessary themselves.
