Security
information
Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial security functions that
support the secure operation of plants, solutions, machines, equipment and/or
networks. They are important components in a holistic industrial security
concept. With this in mind, Siemens products and solutions undergo continuous
development. Siemens recommends strongly that you regularly check for
product updates.
For the secure operation of Siemens products and solutions, it is necessary to
take suitable preventive action (e.g. cell protection concept) and integrate each
component into a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security concept. Third-party
products that may be in use should also be considered. For more information
about industrial security, visit http://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.

Introduction
For street lights, factors like remote control, networking and potential energy saving
are becoming increasingly important.
With this in mind, the street lights in a street shall be automatically switched
on and off at sunset and sunrise. In addition, it shall be possible to insert a switchon time for the street lights via SMS, or manually on site.
Solution
2.1
Overview
Schematic layout
The figure below shows a schematic overview of the most important components of
the solution:

In the automation solution, the street light is controlled with a LOGO! 8 connected
to a LOGO! CMR.
Setting a manual street light control (user-defined mode) or an automatic control
(astro clock mode) can be performed via SMS or LOGO! TDE.
In astro clock mode, the street light is switched off in the morning and back on at
night using the Astronomical clock function.
In user-defined mode, a user-defined time of day can be entered via LOGO!
display or LOGO! TDE at which the street light shall be switched on, the day after.
The time of day of the LOGO! controller is synchronized with an NTP server using
LOGO! CMR so LOGO! constantly has the correct UTC time.

Throughout the entire document, the term LOGO! CMR refers to LOGO!
CMR2020 as well as LOGO! CMR2040.
Advantages
This application example offers you the following advantages:
Energy saving by automatically switching the street lights on and off at sunset
and sunrise.
Cost-efficient remote access for setting the switch-on time of the street lights
via SMS.

Mode of Operation
3.1
A valid format for the time input is the hours as numerals 1-24 and the minutes as
numerals 0-59. If, for example, the user-defined time of day 11:30 h shall be set,
the value 1130 must be entered here via SMS, LOGO! display, or LOGO! TDE.
The correctness of the entered time value is verified in the LOGO! program by
means of analog function blocks (analog comparators, analog MUX, etc.).
If an invalid time format is entered (e.g. 2430), a warning message is output via
SMS, and locally on LOGO! display or LOGO! TDE, and the astro clock mode is
automatically activated.
As soon as a valid time format is inserted, the user-defined mode is automatically
activated again.

3 Mode of Operation
3.2 Function mechanism of the user-defined time of day input
Note
3.2
Please note that for the time of day value 00:00 h, the analog value 2400
must be entered. Entering the value 0000 as analog value prompts a warning
message stating that the time format is wrong.
Figure 3-2
Each day at 00:00 h, the weekly timer sends a pulse for one minute. As soon as
the wiping relay detects this pulse at the Trg input, the pulse width (TH) is
counted down in minutes (690 minutes in this example).
After the pulse width (TH) of the wiping relay has elapsed, the street lights are
switched on.
Note
The pulse of the weekly timer for counting the pulse width is sent at 00:00 h
every day by the wiping relay. When entering a user-defined switch-on time as
an analog value, this value will be counted down as pulse width (TH) by the
wiping relay on the following day. The inserted switch-on time for the street lights
therefore applies to the following day.

If at a later point in time, the mode shall be changed again, another value must be
written to analog network input NAI2 to generate a new trigger.

for the user Staff as well as for the user admin. In addition, password
SMSwrite was specified in the configuration as password for write
commands via SMS. In the web interface (WBM) of LOGO! CMR you can
change the password for the user and the password for write commands via
SMS at any time.
Further information, on how to load the completed configuration file into LOGO!

The NTP server used in this example is a free to use NTP server. Siemens
does not provide this service.
Alternatively, another NTP server can also be used.
If necessary, check the respective license terms of the NTP server for your
application purpose.
