SUB: YOUR APPLICATION FOR A LOAN OF TK 75,000
Dear Sir,
It is our pleasure to find you as one of our very old and valued clients. We hope, you will continue enjoying our
personalized services as to your banking needs.
You have applied for a loan of Taka 75,000 to buy one motorcycle under our Consumer Credit Scheme, which is a
very popular collateral-free loan program.
One borrower, under this program, has to submit to us a number of undated cheques of his bank account written
in favor of our bank in advance and duly signed, which we are supposed to use for settlement of the loan, if the
borrower ever fails to adjust his or her
debts.
Salaried people whose monthly salaries are commensurate with monthly repayment installments of the proposed
loan are eligible to avail of this loan facility.
As we have found out, your present monthly basic salary is Taka 16,000 and your takehome pay (after adjustments
of cuts by your employer) is Taka 9,000. In no circumstances we can ask you to pay more than TK 3,600 as loan
installment. Because, at least Taka 5,400 (one-third of your basic pay) must be at your hand to defray your own
personal financial needs.
If you avail of Taka 75,000 to be adjusted in five years, your monthly installment for adjustment of the loan will be
around Taka 6,700, which does not cover by what you are now drawing as your take-home pay. We are extremely
sorry to regret your loan application.

SUB: SUPPLEMENTARY BUDGET FOR PURCHASE OF FURNITUR
Dear Sir,
You would be happy to learn that our Branch made a net profit of Taka 14 crore in the last year ending December
31, 2008. We are the leading bank branch in and around Shantinagar and Mogbazar areas and the number of our
clients and customers is increasing at exponential rate. On an average, 200 customers visit our branch everyday.
We are facing acute shortage of furniture to cater to our needs both for our clients and our back office personnel.
There has not been any addition of furniture in our branch since its inception in the year 1998.
Now that OTOBI, a reputed furniture manufacturer in our country, has offered 15 percent discount on office
furniture we request to your esteemed authority to allot in favor of our branch a supplementary budget of Taka 3
lac on account of furniture so that we can furnish our branch with adequate furniture befitting our corporate
environment.

Thank you so much, sir.

Dear Maroof,
Hope, this letter will find you hale and hearty. How are you doing with your new assignment in the foreign
exchange department of your bank branch in Agrabad?
I would advise you to appear in IBB examination to be held in next November. Initially, I had thought the exam
would be a tough one. But, believe me, the exam was easy and smooth. I appeared in all the papers of IBB exam
Part-I that has just been held.
Among all the subjects I found Accountancy a bit difficult. But I sensed a great relief as I could solve the question on
final account with some typical adjustments. I am pretty sure I would qualify in all the subjects.
To pass the IBB exam what you have to do is read thoroughly all the question papers of the previous IBB
examinations and find out their appropriate answers from notebooks that are available in the market. You may
also attend the tutorial classes on all the subjects that are especially arranged by IBB authority in Dhaka.

Keep in touch me and convey my best regards to your parents.

Sincerely,
Raakeeb Reza Khan

SUB: OPENING OF F.C. ACCOUNTS IN AMBARKHANA BRANCH
Dear Sir,
As you know, our branch has already achieved all its business targets of the current year seven months ahead of
the annual closing due on 31 December 2009.
You would be excited to learn that when in the beginning of this year the number of savings accounts was 1,900
and that of current accounts only 56 our branch can now pride over its present number of accounts, which is 4,500
savings accounts and 1,200 current accounts. Our total deposit as on April 30 stands at Taka 60 crore while our
total advance stands at Taka 22 crore.
As everybody knows, Sylhet is famous as the richest abode in Bangladesh for expatriates working abroad. All the
branches of all the commercial banks in the entire Sylhet Division are dependent on Sylheti wage earners for
building their deposit bases. Those bank branches, which offer the privileges to expatriates to open their F.C.
accounts, are gaining the best fruits in their deposit hunting.
We would be immensely benefited if your esteemed authority could arrange permission from the central bank for
authorizing our branch at least to open F.C. accounts of Bangladeshi expatriates as a special consideration, if at this
moment our branch is not given A.D. license to operate other foreign exchange businesses.

Thank you so much.

SUB: RESCEDULING OF OUR LOAN REPAYMENT INSTALLMENTS
Dear Sir,
We are grateful to your esteemed bank authority for sanctioning a term loan of Taka 25 lac in favor of our firm
Bright Poultry in 2008. As you will find in your records we paid our loan installments regularly for the last 15
months.
As ill luck would have it, on the ground of epidemic bird flue we were compelled by the concerned authority to
cull our 3,700 chickens and the government has not yet given any compensation on that account.
In such circumstances it is not possible for us to repay the quarterly installments regularly. The due date of the next
installment of Taka 3,75,000 is June 16, 2009. We would be highly obliged if your authority could grant
rescheduling the term loan to our firm to be adjusted in nine years instead of in five years so that our quarterly
installment stands at not more than Taka 2,00,000.

Thank you so much.

SUB: INTRODUCING COMPUTER SYSTEM IN OUR BRANCH
Dear Sir,
With due respect to your esteemed authority we like to inform you that our Srinagar Branch had earned a net
profit of only Taka 2 crore in the last year ending 31 December 2008 though the branch has the potential to make
much more profits. This branch is commercially a very important branch for its strategic location.
Almost all the branches of all other commercial banks in Srinagar are doing better business compared to ours and
their employees leave their branches at 5 PM after balancing all books of accounts; after office hours the bank
employees of those banks visit different shops and trade houses to interact with businessmen for deposit hunting
and for recovery of overdue loans. On the other hand all the employees of our Branch have to remain in the office
everyday till 7 in the evening to complete their daily works.
The secret behind the success stories of other banks is computerization. All the bank branches in Srinagar, except
our branch, are fully computerized. As a result the efficiency of those branches has increased manifold.
We appeal to your esteemed authority to take necessary steps to introduce computerized banking operation in our
branch as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Of late, it is being observed that some of our branches have been sanctioning long-term loans for house building a
bit recklessly and without taking cautionary measures as to the builders equity and the income generating capacity
of the building being financed.
All concerned are hereby advised to strictly abide by the terms and conditions as stipulated in the Circular Number
19 dated 12 Jan 1987 while evaluating a proposal of house-building loan.
Special attention must be given to the valuation of both landed and building properties keeping in mind that in
view of impending recession the present value of real estate in Bangladesh may suddenly plummet as had
happened in North America that has sparked the ongoing financial meltdown all over the world.
Any deviation from instructions as enunciated in the Loan Manual and in circulars issued from time to time as to

SUB: MONEY TRANSFER THROUGH MONEYGRAM SYSTEM
Dear Sir,
It is our pleasure to receive your letter enquiring about money-gram system of paying money.
MoneyGram is an international company based in the United States having their offices in more than 170 countries
all over the world. This company has recently started providing money transfer services in Bangladesh. They
provide a service that ensures instant cash from the remitters to the recipients in the shortest possible time.
Our bank has entered into an agreement with MoneyGram International. So, if you have any friend or relation
working or living abroad, you may inform him/her that s/he can send money to anybody in Bangladesh through our
bank via MoneyGram.
On the strength of a unique password, conveyed by the remitter to the intending recipient, anybody can get the
instant cash over the counter even if the customer has no account with any bank.
You may enjoy this facility of MoneyGram in any shop or office, other than in banks, wherever you will find the logo
of MoneyGram, thanks to Internet facility being available in every nook and corner.

SUB: YOUR ENQUIRY ABOUT HOW YOU CAN GET MONEY FROM ABROAD
Dear Madam,
It is our pleasure to receive a letter from you to know how you can get money from abroad through our bank
instead of using the MoneyGram system of money transfer.
As you know, our bank has not yet entered into any agreement with MoneyGram. We are also not confident about
the efficacy of money transfer through MoneyGram that ensures payment to anybody who can present a
password. The system sounds to us a little alarming, as we are not used to handing remittance money to anybody
having no account with our bank.
Our system of remittance through our overseas correspondents is very robust and reliable; there is no possibility of
frauds in our system. We ensure crediting the beneficiaries accounts in the shortest possible time. Thanks to
SWIFT communication system of our bank, you can receive money from abroad in matter of few minutes. What
you can do is advise your friend or relation living abroad to find out the nearest bank and instruct them to send
his/her money through our correspondents.
We are enclosing herewith a brochure where you will find a list of our correspondent banks abroad with their
addresses, contact numbers, emails and SWIFT addresses. You may send this brochure to your friend who may
send money to your end through our Bank.

Dear Kamal,
Time flies away. I cant imagine that I have already spent three years working in the same branch of Agrani Bank at
Sadarghat. This explains my pleasure in my banking profession; otherwise passing time would have been a painfully
slow memory.
I find myself fortunate to work in Agrani Bank, Sadarghat Branch for a number of reasons. Firstly, the branch is
located so near my home at Patla Khan Lane that I dont need a rickshaw to commute between my office and
home. I can take my lunch in the comfort of my house during the lunch break of half an hour. Secondly, my
colleagues, especially my Manager, are excellent people. Had I not been in this bank I would have missed a great
opportunity to meet rare people with rare hearts among my office colleagues and the customers of my bank.
You know, Kamal, one day I didnt turn up to my office as I was suffering from fever. To my sheer surprise, I found
the whole crowd of my colleagues and a few customers in the living room of my home. They were concerned about
my sickness. They brought fruits and flowers. They wished me an early recovery.
Of course, banking as a profession is a little risky. One has to be alert and cautious when money goes out of the
branch. I have been trained in our foundation course that a good banker must have a lions heart, an eagles eyes,
a deers ears, a monkeys canny intelligence and an angels noble soul.
I have decided to accept banking as my career for my whole life. Lets see whether I as a banker can contribute my
mites and efforts for the welfare of people.
Please keep in touch with me and feel free to ask me for anything I can offer to you.

You can avail of the loan if you have the following papers ready to submit to us:

02. Evidence that your parents or guardians have valuable properties though they dont have ready cash to spend.
03. Evidence that you have been qualified to get admission in any foreign university or college of international

But, of late, the party is not responding to our repeated requests to pay their installments of a long-term

Can we take any legal measure that may motivate them to adjust the long-due loan? We have sent them

Feasibility on Rahim Glass seeking working capital of Taka one crore

Rahim Glass is the oldest factory in Chittagong manufacturing different kinds of glasses for the last 34 years. They
have been maintaining a current account with us for the last three years though their main bank is Sonali Bank
wherefrom they had availed of a project loan of Taka 25 crore about five years back.
Their project loan with Sonali Bank is going to be adjusted within this year. For our good relationship with Rahim
Glass they have sought Taka One crore as working capital for a new factory they have recently set up to
manufacture bottles for pharmaceutical companies.
The yearly turnover of the group of their industries is more than Taka 200 crore and they have never defaulted
with any bank. Besides machinery, which would be hypothecated by us, they would offer additional collateral
security worth Taka 5 crore to cover the loan for their proposed working capital.
Considering their business background and reputation, the undersigned highly recommends for sanctioning Taka
one crore for Rahim Glass as short-term renewable working capita loan in the form of Cash Credit.

Solution to the problem of excess liquidity

Almost all the branches of Islami Bank in Chittagong as well as in other parts of Bangladesh, as you know, have
been facing excess liquidity as devout Muslims are crowding our bank branches to deposit their savings knowing
full well that they would not earn any interest on their deposits.
This trend of flooding our bank with deposits is observed especially during three months before Hajj as the devout
Muslims, who make up their minds to perform Hajj, withdraw their savings from other commercial banks and
deposit the same with us just before they set out their journey for Hajj.
Considering this trend we suggest our esteemed management to invest the excess fund with leasing companies for
a short period of three months. We have come to learn that the leasing companies offer the best rate. During Hajj
period the leasing companies finance the leather processing factories also for a short period on the eve of Eid-ulAzha.

CAR LOAN FOR SENIOR OFFICIALS
Social Investment Bank Ltd (SIBL) has at present 87 sedans, 25 jeeps and 12 pickups which are being officially used
all over Bangladesh. Of these vehicles, 50 sedans are allotted to executives, from Assistant Vice Presidents to
Managing Director, for their alltime use. Each executive has to pay Taka 300 every month against this facility of
using the banks motor vehicles both for their office and home uses.
The bank has to defray an annual expense of Taka 6 lac for one sedan allotted to each of the executives on account
of fuel, drivers salaries, maintenance, depreciation cost and insurance premium.
It has been observed that families of the executives cant spare their allotted sedans for any official use of the
bank, as they have to use the cars for their domestic purposes day and night.
Considering exorbitant maintenance cost of sedans and also with a view to providing an incentive to the bank
officials all other private banks and some of the state-owned banks have already introduced car loans to their
executives at bank rate and in some cases at no interest in addition to a monthly allowance for maintenance of
cars.
If the board of directors decides to give car loans of Taka 15 lac each to all the executives at an interest rate of 2%
along with monthly car allowance of Taka 25 thousand the bank will save 40% expenditure on account of
maintenance of sedans now being allotted to the executives.
If approved, the proposition may be placed at the next meeting of the Board of Directors for their consideration.

An evaluation meeting presided over by the banks Managing Director Mr. M A Yusuf was held in the Board Room
of our Head Office on May 20, 2009 with Mr. Abdul Jalil, Chairman, Board of Directors, attending the meeting as
the chief guest. All the executives of the Head Office and all the regional managers of the bank participated in the
meeting that lasted for three hours from 1000 HRS in the morning till 1300 HRS in the afternoon. The meeting was
followed by a lunch in Hotel Purbani.
In his welcome address Mr. Zainal Abedin, General Manager, Bangladesh Karma Sangsthan Bank (BKSB), presented
the overall position of the bank highlighting the following features of the last financial year:
01. All the 45 branches located in different parts of Bangladesh made profits in the financial year ending June
30, 2008.
02. Against annual profit target of Taka 15 crore the bank could make a total net profit of only Taka 3 crore.
03. The bank had a total deposit of Taka 1,000 crore out of which Taka 800 crore was time deposit and the
rest demand deposit.
04. The bank had a total advance of Taka 2,900 crore of which only Taka 300 crore was performing assets and
the rest non-performing.
05. Out of total number of 350 employees of the bank 130 employees have left their jobs and 26 employees
had retired resulting in an acute shortage of manpower.
06. The bank is struggling to invest money as it has been facing tough competition from NGOs, especially from
Grameen Bank which is aggressively alluring rural people to bank with them in spite of the fact that their
rates of interests on loans are three times more than what BKSB offers.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors in his address as the chief guest expressed his deep concerns at the pitiable
condition of the bank and urged the bank management to take immediate measures to identify the flaws and take
remedial measures to correct anomalies, if any, that are responsible.
The Managing Director in his presidential address gave assurance that the bank will surmount all the problems and
will be able to achieve its annual target of making a total profit of Taka 25 crore in the current financial year ending
30 June 2009 as BKSB has already taken the following steps:
01. The bank has already ensured a healthy deposit-loan ratio at 60-40 and the provisional profit at the end of
April 30, 2009 stood at Taka 20 crore.
02. Performing assets of BKSB now stands at 90 percent.
03. 20 branches have been computerized to solve the shortage of manpower.
The meeting was over by a vote of thanks delivered by the undersigned.

MEETING HELD ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 2009 AT PRIME BANK, ISLAMPUR
BRANCH, DHAKA, TO DISCUSS ABOUT SECURITY OF THE BRANCH.
An emergency meeting was held at 5 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the chamber of the Branch Manager to
discuss about the existing security arrangements and the measures
that can be taken to streamline the security aspects of the Branch in view of recent robberies being committed in
different shops and offices in and around Dhaka city.
Presided over by the Branch Manager the meeting was attended by all the employees of the Branch. Mr. Kamrul
Islam, Sub-inspector of Islampur Police Station, attended the meeting as a special guest.
The meeting reviewed the law and order situation in Islampur area and security arrangements of the Branch. There
are only two security guards employed by a private security firm. The guards are not smart and intelligent as was
reported by the second officer of the Branch; it was also reported that on holidays only one security guard remains
inside the branch on mutual arrangements between the guards so that the other guard can visit his family on
holidays. More alarming was the fact that the guards who are supposed to remain alert round the clock sleep
during night.
The following resolutions were unanimously adopted by the meeting:
01. The guards have to be replaced by four smart and honest security guards who will guard the Branch on
alternative roaster so that at least two guards are always found guarding the Branch premises round the clock.
02. The guard on duty must toll a strong copper bell every hour according to clock so that the officers of the branch
who reside near the Branch can hear the bell tolling.
03. A CCTV camera attached with a standby computer that can run on battery for at least one hour, in case of
power failure, have to be installed to record movement of people inside the Branch round the clock. All files in the
hard disk of the computer will have to be kept saved at least for one month before erasing the memory disks.
04. Movement register has to be introduced to track movements of both clients and personnel.
The meeting that lasted for about one and a half hour was over with a vote of thanks delivered by the undersigned.
