Pre Manufacturing
Material Choice 3.5 There are virgin materials used but a large amount is
recycled. There are no precious minerals used.
Energy Use 3 None of the materials require energy-intensive extraction however
some energy is still required.
Solid Residue 3.5 Some solid residue is generated as a by-product of the material
production, however none of the materials are virgin ores.
Liquid Residue 3.5 Some liquid residue is generated as a by-product of the
material production, however the materials are not virgin ores of precious metals
produced in acid mining.
Gaseous Residue 2.5 Some gaseous elements are produced in the transportation
and mining of needed materials. However the materials do not fall under the
defined substantial emissions materials.
Safety 4 The production of these materials has advanced to the point where it is
not dangerous to the workers.

Product Manufacturing
Material Choice 3 A large percent of the material used is recycled as cullet (up to
90%).
Energy Use 2.5 Energy use is high, but through the use of recycled materials
energy use is made more efficient.
Solid Residue 4 Up to 90% of initial material is recycled, companies recycle
majority of wasted material which is a by-product of manufacturing.
Liquid Residue 3 Some solvents and oils are used to lubricate machinery. Some
coolant water is produced.
Gaseous Residue 2.5 Some greenhouse gases are produced as a result of the
melting process.
Safety 4 The production of bottles is safe for the operators.

Product Delivery
Material Choice 2.5 Packaging is used to ship bottles. Majority is in cardboard
boxes which can be recycled.
Energy Use 2 Transportation is done with trucks or other mineral burning
transportation methods.
Solid Residue 3 Some packaging is used to ensure that the bottles are not
damaged on their way.

Liquid Residue 4 - No liquid residue is produced when packaging the bottles for
shipping.
Gaseous Residue 2 - Transportation is done with trucks or other mineral burning
transportation methods
Safety 4 Product delivery is generally not dangerous.

Product Use
Material Choice 4 Product requires no consumables for use.
Energy Use 4 Product requires no energy input for use.
Solid Residue 3.5 Product use can be slightly wasteful if broken or improperly
disposed of.
Liquid Residue 4 Product generates no liquid residue.
Gaseous Residue 4 Product generates no gaseous residue.
Safety 4 Product is safe to use.

Field Service
Material Choice 4 Product requires no consumables for service.
Energy Use 4 Product requires no energy input for service.
Solid Residue 3.5 Product use can be slightly wasteful if broken or improperly
disposed of.
Liquid Residue 4 Product generates no liquid residue.
Gaseous Residue 4 Product generates no gaseous residue.
Safety 4 Product is safe to service.

End of Life
Material Choice 4 All parts are recyclable and the product is easy to disassemble.
Energy Use 3.5 Some energy is required for recycling but it actually minimizes
manufacturing energy.
Solid Residue 4 No part of the product needs to end up in the landfill, all of it is
reusable.
Liquid Residue 2 - Cleaning is needed, sometimes heavy cleaning, to reuse the
bottle.
Gaseous Residue 3 To ship the bottle back to be reused some gases are
produced. Energy is used to recycle which means minerals are burned in order to
recycle.
Safety 4 It is generally safe to recycle the material.
