PRESENTATION TITLE: INTERVIEW: Mr. kerwin Helsin

INTRODUCTION
I interviewed a young Vincentian who received his Bachelors degree in Science at the
UWIB. He is a successful professional employee, who travels to different countries because
of his job. He speaks Spanish and French at some degree and is a public employee.
His name is Mr. Kerwin Hilson and he works as a Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry
of Tourism, Sports and Culture for 6 years. He has been a supervisor since he started his
job. Which is the most desired and least understood in the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and
Culture.
They are the core areas of knowledge and skills required for Chief Executive Officers,
which are:

Tourism Management, Leadership, Planning, Organizing, Leading, and

Coordinating.

SECTION I
Tourism management is great for people who like languages. They have to be openminded, creative, have thinking skills, commercial insight, and service intuition approach.
His role is to respond to travelers wishes quickly and smartly. The dynamic world of his
tourism and recreation takes the guest experiences into account.

Consequently, Chief Executive Officer must have

strong leadership qualities. They are

the most important issues required of this competitive job. Everyone has different kinds of
leadership. Therefore, leadership is about maximizing talents to achieve success. He is
updating in this field continuously that is the key for success. He considers that the

competition people can be ungrateful, and that is why he always takes leadership courses
online.

Excellent networking or e-business, The most important thing to remember here is that
networking and effective communication are strongly linked. It is a process of reaching out
to tourists to build relationships, and for mutual trust.

Networking enables tourist

connections as referrals for tourism business opportunities.

Organizational capabilities are related with the process of organization, the ability of
systematizing, how to arrange files, whom to contact for specific information in order to
coordinate internal and external activities, and assigned tasks.

SECTION II
In addition, The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the development and
implementation of promotion, tourism marketing strategies, tourism of the SVG.
Therefore as a Public department in which operates in a strategic approach to attract visitors
locally and internationally, the Ministry of Tourism, Sports, and Culture optimizes
international Tourism facilities, through media official propaganda to its purpose. He
coordinates tourism activities for new visitors in the Islands Supervising the production and
dissemination of print promotional materials and the development and management of
electronic marketing all around the world.
Additionally, he provides a clear leadership, he promotes and foster a team culture
consistent, he builds and maintains strong relationships between local people and public
Ministries of tourism around the world. Tourism is an industry that sells unforgettable
experiences, Communication is vital for the success in the tourism sector.
SECTION III

His job is relevant because, as a part of Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture he drives
an increasingly Tourism growth. They work together between the local people and visitors
who are welcome all the time, Mr. Helsin also facilitates the integration of the communities
in order to create new jobs for local people, Tourism business improves a lifestyle for
Vincentians, as a result the Island gets more money from the Tourism. People get new jobs,
and it improves their quality of life.
The relevance of his job is his intrinsic motivation to carry on Tourism for St Vincent and
the Grenadines, he focuses on the positive impact that Tourism has done in these Islands for
the last year, especially when government attract people for Education. Their incomes are
growing.
Ecuadorians will be our Ambassadors in Ecuador, he is sure that some of us will go back
with our families and enjoy of these beautiful beaches, he deals with cultural differences,
and at the same time he manages international hospitality and tourism businesses. Tourism
products, he has a full understanding of the Tourism industry.
Finally, a chief Executive Officer supports people to improve Tourism; it means a better
quality of life for Vincentians. People are able to creatively solve Tourism management
problems, and apply principles of sustainability to the development of it. Tourism will
provide new local jobs, and money will be invested into Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
