Annie’s Ark has been located in
Livonia since 1982 and program
director Annie Clements stated
“We need to do everything in our
power to protect these children
while they are in our care. By mak-

Great Expectations Child Care Center is located in Lima and was established five
years ago by Jane Chatterton and daughter, Julie, when Jane retired from teach-
ing and they recognized the need for quality day care in the Lima area. As a former
teacher, Jane is very aware of how small children will pick up anything to place in
their mouths and recognizes the importance of having tobacco free grounds to
avoid the chance that a discarded cigarette butt would end up in a child’s hand.
Jane stated “Julie and I realize the effects secondhand smoke can have on children”
(increased risk for upper respiratory and ear infections) ”and we want to eliminate
the exposure for children in our care.”
Livingston County is fortunate to have these two day care programs provid-
ing tobacco-free outdoor play areas, protecting the young lungs of the children in
