METHOD ST A TElvtENT FOR CONSTRUCTION OF BORED PILES

I • ,. • J

.... '"

A Excavation of pile shaft

.. ..

- Before excavation of each bored pile an nx size'hole shall be drilled at the center of each bored pile for identifying possible obstruction and confirming founding level

-' Set out the correct position of the bored pile on site .

... Install the bottom section of temporary casing of2500 rom internal diameter into the ground by vibrating motion exerted by the vibrator.

\

- Set up the vibrator in conjunction with a crawler crane.

- Excavate within the casing by hammer grab and redrive the steel casing simultaneously by ~dng the vibrator.

- Rock chisel in various types will be employed for removal of obstructions or hard materials during the above process.

- Extend the temporary steel casing by welding on additional casing during excavation.

Details of the connection are shown in fig. 1

.

-

- Water will be pumped into the casing during excavation and constant water head will be maintained so as to prevent any ingress of material from the bottom of casing.

- Verticality of the casing will be monitored by means of spirit level from time to rime.

- Continue the above procedure until the tentative bedrock level has reached, Rock fragments 'Will. be collected for inspection by C?vfRfPCOW.

- Rock socket of required length will be formed by the rock chisel after the agreement with C1v1R on the tentative bedrock level

I •

.. Th':";i1e base will be enlarged to the required diameter by the bell-out chisel

.. The bell-out size of the pile could be verified on site by the method as shown in fig. 2.

"\

..

.

- Install the pre-determined numbers oftremie pipe to the bottom of the pile shaft and

clean the pile shaft by air lifting method.

~ .

- Cleaning of the pile shaft for about 2 .. 3 hours until the water pumping out from the pile

shaft is clear.

- The water washed out from the pile must be desilted before discharging into drains as shown in fig. 3.

- After the pile shaft is cleaned, left-in-place steel lining, sonic tubes and dowel bars of reinforcement cages of required length and numbers will be installed into the pile shaft and down to the predetermined level before concreting.

I •

- The steel cage will be hold in the correct position by using suitable size cover concrete

.

- Set up the working platform to the top of the temporary casing as shown in fig. 7.

- The pile shaft will be concreted by '" Underwater Tremie Technique" immediately after cleaning of the pile shaftagaln. The tremie pipe sections with internal diameter of 250mm will be inserted and be jointed until it reaches the bottom of the pile shaft. The plugging details at the tips oftremie pipes are shown in fig. 8. Concrete will be poured

- into the trernie pipe by using a concrete skip as shown in fig. 9. Concreting will be carried out in one continuos operation to a stop-off level (above the cut-offlevel) agreed with the CrvrR

+

r: .. As concreting proceeds, the level of the concrete relative to the ground level will be

monitored by measuring with weighted tape after each skip of concrete is placed.

- The base of the tremie pipe will be kept with a minimum depth of approximate 1 to 2m below the surface of the concrete .

.. The void left between the perrnanent and the temporary casing will be backfilled as shown in fig. 1 o .

.. The temporary casing will be extracted simultaneously by the vibrator in course of concreting. A head of about 2m (minimum) is always maintained between the top of concrete and the bottom of steel casing.

- During the lifting of the temporary casing and concreting the steel cages will be stabilized as shown in fig. 11.
