Executive Summary
With the rapid environmental depletion today, theres a crucial need for efforts

to help preserve the environment. Various people are starting to stand up against
environmental depletion by the use of their advocacies and through building nonprofit organizations for the preservation of the environment, and numerous
organizations and firms are rallying their environmental preservation advocacies by
coming up with projects that would benefit the environment. With the gravity of this
problem at hand, environmental preservation has become a global issue. At an article
released by Inter Press service, numerous countries attended the climate talk in Bonn,
Germany as the United Nations led the diplomatic talks about the draft of the global
climate pact.
The global climate pact aims to provide guidelines to the participating
countries about its carbon emissions and how their countries use natural resources,
along with its impact to the environment. The drafting of the pact has been on-going
for some time now, leading to the frustration of some representatives of the country
because of the slow pace of the climate talks. Negotiators and observers described the
meeting a squandered opportunity because of the slow pace of the talks, so they
suggest that seven world leaders, that will be spearheaded by US President Barack
Obama, to begin endorsing a long-term goal of decarbonizing the global economy, by
veering away from the usage of fossil fuels. However, officials leading the Bonn talks
argue that the time spent by them drafting the pact is needed as no one can craft a
universal agreement with more than 190 countries overnight. The target date of the
enforcement of the global climate pact is in 2020, where first, second and third world
countries pledge to limit their emissions of greenhouse gases that scientists say are

raising global temperatures, resulting in more intense heat waves, rising sea levels and
other climate impacts.
II.

Statement of the Problem

The problem at hand is regarding the arguments on the drafting of the

guidelines and the enforcement of the global climate. As reported in the news article,
the co-chairmen were asked to streamline the text further by August. The pact
encapsulates multiple options on contentious issues, including how to differentiate
between the obligations of rich and poor countries to fight climate change and what
commitments of financial support to fight climate change poor nations want from the
rich. The enforcement of the pact is still undecided, whether it will be on 2020-to2025 or 2020-to-2030 period. Numerous country representatives remain skeptical
about the Group of Seven (G-7) promise to decarbonize the global economy by
mobilizing $100 billion per year by 2020, because donor-countries have yet to
elaborate how they will meet this goal.

III.

Cause of the Problem

The first cause of the problem is the country's emissions of greenhouse gases

that according to scientists, are raising global temperatures which results to more
intense heat waves, rising sea levels and other climate impacts. People should be
sensitive enough to avoid what causes these things as they may occur in the latter
future, specifically in the year 2020. The second cause of the problem is that the poor
nations cannot resolve the problem themselves because of the lack of funds, and
therefore a need of financial support from the rich countries to be able to fight the
climate change. There were some conflicts with REDD because the indigenous people
and other forest dwellers, who do not have any formal land rights, rely on forest

resources for their livelihoods. Extracting from forest resources excessively increases
the change of deforestation in the countries, which may cause a severe scarcity of
resources. Coal is also a cause of the problem because it is known to be the most
polluted type of fuel that people use everyday. It is the only source of energy that
people take advantage of. How the people use energy from coal is a problem because
they consume a large amount of it, and doing so will lead to carbon emission that
results to climate change and global warming, which that become inevitable to the
situation.
IV. Decision Criteria and Alternative Solutions
1. The problem of each region should be specified by the leaders before creating
a project that will solve a global issue. The differences of the countries should
be considered. Start small before going to the bigger issue.
2. Determine how much resources will be needed for the solution of the problem
of each region or country. This way, each country should be able to create a
budget for the solution.
3. Consider how the solution, once implemented, will affect the people and the
environment. With this, the alternative solutions should be weighed or
compared to be able to identify which is the best solution.
4. With the specific problems of the different countries, the urgent and the
important should be identified. First, know what are the important issues and
rank them in order of importance. If the problems cannot be solved all at once,
at least start slow or small but the most important and urgent should be the
first to be appointed.
5. Replace what is being consumed.

V. Recommended Solution, Implementation and Justification

Looking at the natural environment, the remarkable ability of how nature
rejuvenates itself and sustains its viability can be seen. When a tree falls, it
decomposes, adding nutrients to the soil and these nutrients help sustain suitable
conditions so future saplings can grow and so on. However, like everything else, it
also has its limits. Environmental related problems are quite difficult to solve,
environmental sustainability is hard to achieve because of mans endless needs to
survive. Deforestation, pollution, extinction and the like are consistently occurring
because of the desperation to have an increasingly better society, because of the
wanted change.
Searching for alternatives is sometimes irrational and hard but replacing what
we consume would lessen the depletion. This recommended solution will quite be
timely if implemented because some or maybe the majority would contradict to this.
However, doing this ourselves would decrease the ecological footprint as a whole.
