Appendage Piles, South Side of


Wilshire

Appendage piles are the ancillary piles for the structures on the sides of the station box.
Located on the north and south side of Wilshire Blvd on La Brea, Sycamore, and Orange.
Appendage structures include:
Vent shafts, exit stairwells, and station entrance at La Brea
Appendage piles are smaller and shorter (40-60ft.) than the station box piles.
Requires closures on La Brea, Sycamore, and Orange.

Jet Grouting
Jet grouting is a construction process that uses high-pressure air

and grout to create a deep soil-concrete block.


The purpose of jet grouting is to reinforce and strengthen the
soil with concrete to support tunneling and cross-passage
excavation.
