FIGURE 9 SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

Signal Flow

Forward Service
The ZXMBW B9100 receives the forward service from AGW
through R6 interface, and implements signal coding and
modulation. After that the coded and modulated signals are

transmitted to the RRU through fiber or local connection. The

RRU performs radio modulation, amplification and filtration on
the signals, and then sends the signals to the access terminal
through the antenna.

Reverse Service
The antenna receives the reverse service that from access terminals, and passes the service to the RRU. The RRU performs
radio demodulation on the service. The demodulated signals
are transmitted to ZXMBW B9100 through fiber or local connection. The ZXMBW B9100 decodes the signal, and sends the
signal to core network through the R6 interface.

Signal Flows
Service Signal Flow
In ZXMBW B9100, the control plane signal flow and the media
plane signal flow are combined into one signal flow.
Forward Signal
Flow

Figure 10 shows the forward service signal flow.

FIGURE 10 FORWARD SERVICE SIGNAL FLOW

20

Chapter 2 Working Principle

The service signals from the CN flows from the AGW into the CSIM
board through the R6 interface. After the signals pass the Ethernet
switch, they are distributed to MPXM, MPIM and WBPM boards to
implement MAC and PHY processing of baseband modulation. The
signals are then sent to RRU through the baseband-RF interface.
Reverse Signal
Flow

Figure 11 shows the reverse signal flow.

FIGURE 11 RESERVE SERVICE SIGNAL FLOW

The RF signals from the MS flow into the WBPM board through the
baseband-RF interface. After the signals pass the Ethernet switch,
they are distributed to the MPXM, MPIM and WBPM boards for MAC
and PHY processing of baseband demodulation. Finally, the signals
are sent to the AGW through the R6 interface of the CSIM board.

Clock Signal Flow

The ZXMBW B9100 system clock is wholly distributed by the TFM
board.
The TFM board processes the received satellite signals and outputs
PP1S, 4CHIP and SerDes clock signals. Afterwards, it distributes
these clock signals to each board of the ZXMBW B9100, as shown
in Figure 12.

The external -48 V power supply goes through the DC power cable
to the PM panel through its panel inlet. The PM panel processes
and outputs 12 V and 3.3 V into the boards in the chassis.

Ventilation and Heat

Dissipation Principles
ZXMBW B9100 adopts forced air-cooling with front intake and rear
exhaust. It is equipped with 3 separated fan units.

One BS Connected
to Multiple AGWs

To improve the reliability and AGW disaster recovery capability,

one BS can be connected to multiple AGWs. Both layer 2 and
layer 3 switches are supported between BS and AGWs.
1. In layer 2 mode:
One BS is connected to multiple AGWs through a layer 2 switch,
as shown in Figure 15.
FIGURE 15 BS CONNECTED

MULTIPLE AGWS

VIA

LAYER 2 SWITCH

In this mode, the external IP address of MPXM is in the same

subnet as the IP addresses of the AGW interfaces. Because all
media plane and signaling plane packets that are sent to an
AGW should be transferred by the AGW interface, the corresponding route table must be configured in MPXM.
2. In layer 3 mode:
The external IP address of MPXM, the AGW interface IP addresses, the signaling IP addresses and the media plane IP addresses of AGWs can be in different subnets. In this mode, the
configuration of MPXM is simple. The media plane and signaling plane packets that are sent to any AGW need to be routed
only to the external router that is connected to the MPXM.
Figure 16 shows the layer 3 mode.

R6 Interface
R6 interface defines the processing flow between BS and ASN-GW.
The signaling between the BS and the ASN-GW is transmitted
through the R6 tunnel in the format of User Datagram Protocol
(UDP) plus the signaling format defined by NWG stage 3. The media plane data is borne over the encapsulation tunnel protocol.
UDP bears R6 signaling. Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE),
Multiple Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Virtual Local Area
Network (VLAN) bears R6 data.
The ASN-GW terminates the R6 tunnel from the BS. The R6 tunnel
can adopt various encapsulation technologies, such as GRE, MPLS
and VLAN, and different tunnel granularities are allowed. The R6
data path supports encapsulation protocol and tunnel granularity
negotiation.

ms) is I x 1920 x 400 = I x 768000 (Bytes). Here I = 1, 2 or 4.
OBSAI supports three rates: 1x, 2x, and 4x. Figure 66 shows
the frame structure at each rate.
FIGURE 66 MASTER FRAME FORMAT

FOR

THREE TYPES

OF

RATES

At any of the three rates, Master Frame is 10 ms. The line rate
is (I x 768000/10ms) x 8 x 10/8 = I x 768 Mbps. 1x is 768
Mbps, 2x is 1536 Mbps, and 4x is 3072 Mbps.
