Strategy for Sustainable Robust Growth in India

Policy makers either in government or in corporate always tries to

look outside India to find solution for their problems.
Although all of us are taught to live in accordance to demography.
There is a well known verse that does as the romans do implying
do accordance to place, situation and time.
So in reference to India there are certain facts which our policy
makers should consider:1). India is a resource deficit country so each and every resource
should be deployed prudently so as to satisfy the most sections of
society. Here resource implies skill development, capital resource,
food, minerals, water, land etc etc. When a country is resource
deficit than every resource has to be allocated and distributed
prudently so as citizens live there peacefully for decades. This
implies that regulation, distribution, and controlling of all the
resources are must. Regulation is not red tapeism or inspector raj,
but a mechanism in which demand and supply of each and every
resource is assessed correctly and then distributed among the stake
holders so as to cut wasteful competition and satisfying most of the
demands. This was adapted in Nehru era in form of division of
manufacturing items among big , small and SME`s. But this good
model rather being into a good system was destroyed by high tax
rates , red tapeism and inspector raj.
2). India is highly populated country of 125 plus million people and
still counting on. So with this massive population every economic
activity has to be regulated properly otherwise there will be
economic rampage. For example if one shop is opened in an area,
many other shops pop up in few years making every shop unviable.
For this purpose it is necessary to assess the actual need for shops
and then issuance of licenses. Further the basic need for food, cloth
and shelter has to be addressed first then you can have the
privilege to go for luxury. In this context planned work force has to
be deployed in a planned manner. Even 1% of Population attempts
for startup then imagines the magnitude of startups in India and
sees the failure rate of 90%, then how much resource is wasted.

3). Indians are by nature resource conserving people as compared

to western world. Here even a drop of water is conserved and even
a piece of paper is utilized. So just pushing products in market due
to mass production is a waste. One plus one free schemes are not
the cake for Indians. What corporate are doing is shattering the
basic instinct of resource conservation. Indians are taught to use
the resource carefully.
4). Indians are preventive in nature. That is they plan to stay fit,
wealthy , so they do health preventive exercise like yoga and saves
a lot of their earnings for future.
5). Indians are god fearing people and loves charity. See corpus of
temples and success of PM`s LPG subsidy scheme. Further Indians
do not like to be taxed. So in this context GST etc will be not be so
relevant as compared to first point taxation prevailed few years
back.
6). Indians are not brand loyalist as compared to west. They look for
cheap and best options. For Example if company A is providing
goods at INR 10/- then they will buy form them, next day if company
B is selling same goods at INR 9.9/- then will move to company B
with no haste.
So startups making losses to built customer base and hence raising
capital from venture funds is useless. There losses can never be
covered if they continue deep discount policy. More over deep
discounting policy to irradiate competitor is not possible in India.
7). Indians do not care about littering , so from time`s packing
materials used in India was made from organic so even if littered , is
easily decomposed and do not need recycling and cleaning.
8). Indians love fresh food. So promoting fast and packaged food
industry in the name of food processing industry is like fooling
yourself. India needs food processing but not retail packaged food
industry which not only consume lot of resources but also required
recycling.
So if policy makers do recognize the basic instinct of Indians and
then draft policies for them, then no can stop sustainable robust
growth of India.
