Title: Living Environment VS Health

We

of
our

earth

provides

favorable

conditions

for

the

existence and growth of different life forms;

including man. Both the physical and Biological
environments are

in a close interaction with

each other and forms a stable self-perpetuating

system.

In

prehistoric

times

man

lived

in

harmony with nature but in the course of his

evolution man has develop a new type of
environment, the man made environment man is
a social animal; the socio-cultural environment
also place an important role in his life.
The environment is constantly changing and this
affects life on earth; some of these effects can be
lasting and irreversible.
Environmental Health
Environmental Health can be define as the
aspect of public health that is concerned with all
external conditions such as all forms of life,

substances, forces, problems and challenges and

any other condition in the surrounding of man
that may exert an influence on mans health and
well-being Disease, in this sense, represents a
maladjustment

of

the

human

being

to

his

environment. Although ancient civilizations were

aware of the effects of environment on health,
the importance of clean environment in the
modern times was realised in Europe only after
the Industrial revolution in 1842. It was known as
The great sanitary awakening.
Community Health
Community Health is defined more broadly and
encompasses the entire gamut of communityorganized efforts for maintaining, protecting and
improving the health of the people. It involves
motivation of the individual and groups to change
the pattern of behaviour.

Discussion
Out of the five houses, I surveyed the surface
area of the flats ranges from 1450 sq m to 1880
sq m. Three of the five flats were having 3 bed
rooms and were quite spacious. However the
ventilation facility were not satisfactory as there
was

no

arrangement

for

cross

ventilation.

Further, residents reported that they get sunlight

for about two to three hours a day. Two of the five
flats situated at the road side reported noise
pollution chiefly by the vehicles passing by. All of
the five houses had their own water purifier and
none of them were using tap water for drinking
our cooking purposes.
Out of 10 members we surveyed none of them
were aware of the exact concept of health
envisaged by world health organization 4 out of
10 persons reported to have been doing exercise
on a daily basis. Walking was the most preferred
mode of exercise however 8 out of 10 people
found

7 out of 10 reported that they

wash hands before meal but only when they are

at home. All people to fast food at least once a
week. More over half of them work having fast
food on a daily basis and three of them were
overweight half of them admitted to have visited
a doctor in last six month and for them were
diagnosed diseases related with unhealthy life
style. As expected, 9 out of 10 persons were not
satisfied with work done by municipal authorities
in providing a clean environment.

CONCLUSIONS
The Survey, as we found is following the pattern
of a typical modern life style and the problem of
over crowdedness of our urban regions were
people

economically could not keep them self-healthy

because of their life style. While it was pleasant
to find that all of the five houses made sure that
they have access to pure drinking water but
unfortunately all of them were found to be taking
fast food and ignoring its harmful effects our
findings also suggest their indifferent attitudes
towards daily physical exercise.
Survey signifies that the rapid and to much
migration towards urban centres has made these
congested.
