Summary:

The ampacity of conductor is how much current a conductor can carry before deterioration. It
depends on resistance, insulation and frequency of current and heat. The main aim of our
experiment was to design electric circuit in series and through ohm law we would find relation
between current and voltage.
Objective
In the experiment the objective is measure the current, voltage and power across the resistor
through connecting devices in series.
After circuit setup, we would then find power disspation.
Equipment & Components required
Digital Multimeter
Industrial experiment board
Connecting wires
DC power Supply

Test Method:
1) We first make sure each resistors of 12V lamps should have approximated 4 Ohms.
2) With voltage source being set to 12v. We connect 1 lamp and measure its current and
voltage drop, then we connect the 2nd lamp in series with it and do same procedure for 3rd
one.
3) Voltage also drops from 12 V to 6V then 4V.
4) Using ohm law we find resistance of each lamp.
5) We then find power dissipation and calculate its total.

Using the DMM, measure the OFF resistance of the 12V lamps

Resistance:
Lamp 1: Resistance = 4 .
Lamp 2: Resistance = 4.2
Lamp 3: Resistance = 4 .
Voltage:
Lamp 1: Voltage = 12V
Lamp 2: Voltage = 12V
Lamp 3: Voltage = 12V
Current:
Lamp 1: V=R.I I=12/4 = 3A
Lamp 2: V=R.I I=12/4.2 =2.8A
Lamp 3: V=R.I I=12/4 = 3A
Lamp 1, Lamp 2 and Lamp3 in Series
Current: 0.98A
Voltage: 12V
Resistance: 12.2

Calculate expected power dissipation for each case. Calculate the total power

Lamp 1 P = I . R = 3 . 4 = 36 W
Lamp 2 P = I . R = 2.8 . 4 = 32,92W
Lamp 3 P = I . R = 3 . 4 = 36 W
Ptotal = I+(R1+R2+R3) = 0.98^2 . 12.2 = 11.71 W

Set the power supply to 12V and connect 1 lamp. Measure the current and the voltage
drop with the DMM, then calculate the ON resistance
Voltage:
Lamp 1 = 12V
Lamp 1 + Lamp 2 = 12V
Lamp 1 + Lamp 2 + Lamp 3 = 12V

Current:
Lamp 1 = 0.308A
Lamp 1 + Lamp 2 = 0.206A
Lamp 1 + Lamp 2 + Lamp 3 = 0.164A
Voltage Drops:
Lamp 1: V = RI = 4 . 0.308 = 1.232V
Lamp 1 + Lamp 2 = V = RI = 4.2 . 0.206 = 0.8652V
Lamp 1 + Lamp 2 + Lamp 3 = V = RI = 4 . 0.164 = 0.656V

Calculate the power dissipation for each case, based on your measurements. Calculate the
total power dissipation

Power dissipation for:

Lamp 1 = 0.38W
Lamp 1 + Lamp 2 = 0.35W
Lamp 1 + Lamp 2 + Lamp 3 = 0.33W
Real Power:
Lamp 1 = 34.62W
Lamp 1 + Lamp 2 = 17.2W
Lamp 1 + Lamp 2 + Lamp 3 = 11.25W

Analysis:
It is possible to observe that after flow in there is potential drop across circuit. And also the
power in the circuit is less than the expected power because the resistance will keep some energy
for it.
Conclusion/discussion:
We noticed that the resistance values found in calculations were different then the values we
measured with the multimeter. That difference occurs because off the temperature; when turned
on, the LED glows and slowly starts to get warmer, and this heating increases the former
resistance of the LED, making the difference between the two values.
