Corroboree Park management plan – public meeting
The ACT Government is hosting a public meeting with Ainslie residents to update
them on the park management plan being developed for Corroboree Park.
The park management plan, which is expected to be completed next month, and
recognises the historic values of the park will outline the measures needed to
maintain a healthy treed landscape for future generations.

An easier path to home ownership for public housing
tenants
Public housing tenants can now apply to purchase their existing home under the
ACT Government’s new ‘Shared Equity Scheme’. One of Australia’s largest building
societies IMB Limited will provide first mortgage finance to tenants purchasing
their properties under the scheme. Tenants who are unable to afford to buy the
full value of their home can buy a percentage of it. Housing ACT will retain the
remaining percentage until it is also purchased by the tenant.

Draft Variation No. 302 to the Territory Plan
A review of the Territory Plan by the ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) has
resulted in proposed changes to community facility zone objectives, the associated
development table and development code. It is also proposed, as a consequence,
to rezone Belconnen section 87 blocks 12–15.
The draft variation is available at www.actpla.act.gov.au under consultation on
the home page.Written comments from the public are invited by COB Tuesday 22
June 2010.

Seasonal Influenza Vaccine availability
Seasonal influenza (flu) vaccine supplies into community pharmacies have been
slow and will remain low in the coming weeks. If you are trying to purchase this
vaccine it is best to leave your prescription with your pharmacist. They will place
an order and let you know when it is available. Be patient, but persistent, as the flu
season is fast approaching.
Supplies of seasonal flu vaccine for people eligible for free vaccine under the National
Immunisation Program have not been affected and are being provided direct to GPs.
Eligible groups are those at higher risk of developing severe illness and complications
from the flu virus. These currently include pregnant women, people aged six years*
and over with underlying medical conditions, people aged 65 years and over and
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 15 years and over. If you belong
to one of these groups please contact your GP for immunisation against flu. Normal
consultation fees will apply.
Ample supplies of the pandemic H1N1 vaccine, Panvax® are also available for
everyone aged six months and over. This can be obtained through your General
Practitioner or community clinics by phoning 6207 9977 for an appointment.
This will provide coverage for H1N1 which is expected to be the predominant
circulating strain this winter.
The 2010 seasonal flu vaccine protects against three strains - pandemic H1N1
’09 influenza (swine flu) strain, a H3N2 strain and a B strain. You should still have
a seasonal flu shot even if you had the single strain pandemic H1N1 (swine flu)
vaccine.

(AEFI) reported in WA.

ACT Health Records (Privacy and Access) Act 1997 -
recent changes
Changes to the Health Records (Privacy and Access) Act 1997 will start on 1 October
2010 and will affect patient health record keepers as follows:
• it requires a period of four weeks notice to consumers and the community before
a closure, merger or relocation of a practice;
• it enables the prioritisation of urgent requests for the transfer of health records;
• it clarifies that consumers can only ask for a copy of their health record and not
an original but this does not prevent health record keepers transferring original
records if they choose;
• it clarifies the time frames around when a requested copy of a record must be
provided by a record keeper; and
• it introduces a requirement that record keepers notify ACT Health of practice
closures, mergers or relocations.
Training sessions will be conducted by the ACT Health Services Commissioner in
August and September 2010 to help record keepers, health professionals and the
general public to understand the responsibilities of a record keeper. An enrolment
fee will apply. Sessions details will be provided closer to August 2010. In the
meantime, if people wish to register their interest in attending a training session

New Walk-in Centre opens 18 May
Australia’s first Walk-in Centre will open Tuesday 18 May at Canberra Hospital. The
Walk-in Centre can provide:
• fast, free access to health care;
• treatment of cuts, sprains and abrasions;
• advice and treatment for minor illnesses;
• a sick certificate; and
• information about other health care services.
The Walk-in Centre is situated opposite the emergency department at Canberra
Hospital.
The Centre is a free service, no appointment is required and open from 7.00am to
11.00pm, seven days a week.
Please note children under two years of age and people with complex health issues
should visit their GP.

Workers’ compensation policy holders
The ACT Default Insurance Fund (the DI Fund) provides a safety net to injured
workers who are left without compensation through the actions of their employer.
The cost of providing this protection is met by every ACT employer who does the
right thing and obtains a compulsory workers’ compensation insurance policy. In
the past, the cost to policy holders (the DI Fund levy) has been incorporated within
the overall workers’ compensation premium paid by employers.
From 4.00pm, 30 June 2010 insurers will be required to disclose the DI Fund levy
amount on every premium notice. This will allow every employer who does the
right thing to see the true cost of non-compliance in the community.
Through community awareness and action, those employers who avoid their
workers’ compensation responsibilities will be brought to account. Report fraud
and non-compliance to WorkSafe ACT on 02 6207 3000.

Public tours of the ACT Supreme Court – celebrating
Law Week 2010
The ACT Supreme Court will be open for public tours during the week commencing
17 May 2010 as part of Law Week 2010.
The Supreme Court welcomes members of the community to visit the Court
building and see some of the ACT’s architectural and judicial history.
When: Monday 17 May until Friday 21 May 2010
Tours commence at 11.00am and 2.00pm each day and numbers are limited to 20
persons per tour.
