Design Update Note

Engines: ME/ME-C
Upgrade of inductive position sensor for exhaust valve and fuel oil pressure
booster from plug type to integrated cable type
Action Code X2

Based on service experience, new inductive position sensors with an integrated cable have proven
more reliable compared to the previous type, which has a plug connection. The physical layout, as
well as the function of the position sensor is identical to the previous type. The new sensors are
attached to this Design Update Note and have the following Part Id Nos.:
Exhaust Valve (50, 60, 65 & 70ME-C):
Part Id. No. 1881713-8
Part Id. No. 1881664-6
The sensors are presented in a selection Part Id. No. 1881718-7
Exhaust Valve (80, 90 & 98ME/ME-C):
Part Id. No. 1881670-5
Part Id. No. 1881715-1
The sensors are presented in a selection Part Id. No. 1881754-5

Since the new position sensor type has an integrated cable, a terminal enclosure (Drawing No.
5132330-8) for connecting the sensor to the fixed installation is needed. The new arrangement can
be seen below.

This will reflect a few changes in the cabling, and the new termination is shown below.

X(n)x(n); n = Pair No. & X = Wire no.

The above changes reflect MS 12 (SF21-2222), MS 14 (SF21-3010) and MS 33 (SF21-3818), and

will be implemented in the parts lists for all new engine design specifications. With regard to orders
received for the old type of sensors, licensees and customers will instead receive both the new type
inductive sensor and the terminal enclosure with a retrofit instruction.
For those licensees who prefer to receive the updated drawings for the engines currently under
production or already delivered, we ask you kindly to forward a list of Design Specifications to our
design departments.
