Evaluation Etiquettes
The first step in evaluation is to read the Self Learning Material (developed by
the University), which pertain to the questions.
Secondly, evaluate the assignment for its organizational aspects, viz.,
introduction, body or mid part, ending/conclusion.
Thirdly, check the accuracy of information, content density, logical and
critical analysis of concept.
Fourthly, evaluate the clarity in expression and language. While doing these
activities, you may write pedagogically meaningful comments in the margin
of each page of the response. At the end, you may write global comments.
Give Positive Comments wherever possible, which approves of what the
learner has written, and motivates him to perform better. Example- Your
explanation with regard to information processing theory is very good. I
appreciate your diagram number one, you have clearly outlined the points
here; the answer is appropriate and sufficient.
Offer Constructive Suggestions as to how the answer could have been
improved, wherever required, which helps in bringing about purposeful
didactic communication. Example- You could have discussed the factors of
environmental pollution with examples and illustrations; you could have
added a few more lines on .; the explanation for the first point could be
given in .; you could have mentioned two more points relating to .

Evaluation is to be done as per the Scheme of Evaluation (SoE). The SoE provides
suggested value points and not the complete answers. Please ensure that all
students who have written similar answers (in line with SOE) are awarded
approximately same marks.
In case an assignment fully or partly seems to be a copy paste (either from
Internet or from another candidate, but not from the SLM), it can be given
average marks (of the part of total) indicating clearly that the marks have been
allotted for reason of copy-paste. In case the student had copied the answer/s
directly and exactly from SLM (with all the conversational style and first-person
form intact), marks to be reduced and reason to be cited.
Initially do manual evaluation on a separate piece of paper. After ensuring the
rigor, one may resume evaluation using OSM.
Use all annotations liberally such as ---X, tick mark, circle, and comment cloud.
Include marks and comments/feedback (refer to section 1.3) only in the relevant
column and nowhere else. Wherever possible, provide additional information to
student, or give references for further reading.
