TOURISM
In recent years, tourism has revolutionized dramatically and played an important
role in our society. The development of tourism has influenced on many aspects of our
life. To explain more, I focused on three points: the positive impacts, the negative effects
and the future of tourism.
No one can deny that tourism has brought many positive effects on our life,
particularly in rural areas and developing countries. Jobs are created, both through direct
employment within the tourism industry and other sectors such as retail and
transportation, so local people are not unemployed anymore. In Great Britain, tourism
supports over 3 million jobs that is 9.6% of all jobs in 2013. Moreover, in social aspect,
tourism also encourages the preservation of culture and traditions. For example, in Viet
Nam, "Nha nhac" is conserved and developed to become an interesting factor that could
attract many visitors all over the world.
Although tourism can bring many benefits, mass tourism is also associated with
negative effects. It can have detrimental impacts on the quality of life of the community.
For example, crowding, congestion, increases in the price of goods and services and
demand for holiday homes that makes housing too expensive for local people can occur.
Tourism also poses a threat to regions natural and cultural resources such as water
supply, energy, heritage sites and natural habitat areas through overuse. In addition, it
may lead to soil erosion and pollution through traffic emissions, littering and increasing
sewage production and noise.
However, tourism, with the change of time, also promises a bright future with full
of potentials. According to a prediction of a secretary of World Tourism Organization: In
the next time, tourism will be a support branch of economic development. Besides, the
number of tourists is also predicted to tend to increase considerably. Specifically, there
will be 1.5 billion international tourists and more than 5 billion domestic tourists in 2020.
We can see that, to prepare for this expand, there have been an increasing number of
infrastructure invested with large- scale plans such as Disneyland in Hong Kong, Lotte
Theme Park in Korea, Hollywood in California,Not just that, tourism is expected to
provide a link to connect many cultures all over the world.
In conclusion, the benefits from tourism as well as its negative impacts on the
environment and the quality of life are factors existing in the development of tourism
industry. Admittedly, while receiving the benefits from tourism, we are going to be
dealing with the other side of it. Therefore, we should find suitable solutions to solve the
exiting problem to contribute to flourishing tourism in the future.
