Introduction:

Arduino microcontrollers are open-source electronics platforms that offer

plenty of freedom to anyone who is interested in the world of digital
electronics; this makes fast and easy prototyping possible. For this reason,
we have chosen to apply it to our project as a controller for the trainer.
For quite some time now, Arduino boards have been at the heart of
various DIY electronics projects. The fact that it is easy to use allows
professionals and enthusiasts alike to create and develop electronics
projects with such ease. In fact, some of the new technology we see today
was developed by hobbyists who used Arduino as a stepping stone into
greater things.
Nowadays, resources are more readily available, and the general cost
materials is relatively low. This allows most of people, especially students
who are interested in developing their skills in electronics, to create new
breakthroughs in technology. With even only just a basic knowledge of
circuit design and construction, we can make a relatively powerful Arduino
trainer that students may use to develop their own digital electronics
programs; a trainer that is efficient, inexpensive, and easy to use.

In addition to this, we will be interfacing a small Raspberry Pi 2 powered

computer which students can use to write programs. These will be
downloaded directly into the Arduino trainer, and allow for much easier
program development and testing.

Problem Statement
Due to the insufficient resources in the campus laboratories, there are
students which do not get to handle the actual equipment related to the
lessons at hand. As such, their learning is incomplete.
More lab equipment, such as trainers, should be provided to students so
that they may be able to grasp ideas and concepts in a more concrete
manner, and so that they may be able to put theory into practice.

Background
If we can provide a training kit that can be used to demonstrate basic
applications using microcontrollers, specifically Arduino, we can enhance
the understanding of a student and increase their interest in digital
electronics, as well as enhance their skills in programming and circuit
design.

Objective:
The main objective of this project is to create a larger version of a
microcontroller, while providing a helpful learning tool to the electronics
laboratory of the Department of Instrumentation and Control Technology.
Specifically, it attempts to meet the following objectives:
1. To introduce the capabilities of a microcontroller.
2. To cut the discontinuity in learning programming such as C language
in the curriculum of ICE engineering.
3. To enhance the logical thinking of students through the help of the
parts of the training kit we are about to build via simulation process.
4. To be able to simulate the program in an actual circuit and
equipment from the microcontroller training kit.

Significance of the Study

This project will is geared to mostly benefit students who are taking up
electronics subjects, especially those who find it hard to immediately
grasp the concepts being discussed in class. Through the equipment we
are going to provide on the training kit / case, the simulation and
application of different programs projects will be possible. This
microcontroller training kit will enhance their learning, as well as serve as
a solid stepping stone for them to explore the vast world of digital
electronics.
