Rehan, Manager HR at Pharmaceuticals was sitting back thinking deeply. What are
you thinking bro? said Waqas, Manager Finance. I am worried about something I
found by reading the annual assessment report. said Rehan. Waqas and Rehan had
been class mates in their Masters degree. Waqas asked about the problems in the
annual report and Rehan told him the whole story about issues he and their
organization have been facing. MARK was once known for its employees but now
after the company had lost its image, both of these talented graduates joined
MARK. The issues that Rehan was worried about were listed
And these two talented graduates were called to solve such problems. The
stakeholders trusted their abilities and handled them this assignment.
Waqas, What do you think, the root cause is? asked Rehan. Waqas said I was
talking with other people around here a few minutes ago; they all have a common
reason that they do not like working here. They told me that the firm is not giving
them opportunity to excel. This fact was noticed by Rehan also. He discussed this
all with Waqas and pointed out that employees should be given a training session
for motivation. They researched about previous trainings and found that from past
few years, MARK did not organize any training. Both of them were stunned about it.
They decided to go for a NEED ASSESSMENT to check what the organization is really
lacking of.
The need assessment progressed by following
Organizational Analysis told that the business strategy defined this year was to save
costs to buy another venture. The cost cutting went wrong for MARK. The company
did so many things that was for cost saving but it eventually caused decline of the
firm. Personal Analysis showed that the employees were not having so much skills
and qualities. The lower level employees were not having skills and abilities that
were required in the job specification. By following the business strategy of cost
saving, the firm hired inadequate staff for low wages. Task Analysis showed a
different picture about the firm. MARK was using old manufacturing technology
which was causing low sales and lower quality. These all issues were analyzed,
ranked and weighted and the following needs were identified.
After assessing the above mentioned lacks, Rehan decided to plan for a training and
development session. Waqas also agreed on this decision. I think its a great idea. I
am with you buddy. said Waqas. Rehan identified some key areas of training
session. 1) Production Safety and Security. 2) Quality Assurance. 3) Leadership and
Motivation. 4) Cost containment. These were the crucial areas. Rehan decided to
call the Training and Development team to plan with him about the session.
After few days, it was the final meeting for the training session planning. The team
decided to plan for a two weeks, sequential training sessions which included 1) One
Day Workshop on Leadership and Motivation. 2) Six Days Training Session of Quality
assurance. 3) Two Days Training Session on Health and Security at Production. 4)
One week Training Session on Cost Containment and Innovation Management.
Quality Assurance would be done as a Web Based Training and other would be
classroom sessions.
The Evaluation Criteria was set as below
The current situation shows that quality of the products was ranked as
7/10. Rehan was expecting a 20% increase in it.
Employees rated the production environment as 6/10. Rehan and his
team decided that the training should show it 8/10 after one month.
Cost would be contained by 10%
Rehan was so determined to pull it through. Next week, the training sessions would
start.
After four month the results were analyzed and compared to previous scores. Yeah
we made it guys. Rehan was so happy to see the results. He and his team made it
possible to achieve what they had decided. Waqas asked Rehan about what he had
achieved. Rehan told that the companys products were ranked as 9.5/10. And the
employees participation was increased. The company got its repute back in eyes of
its employees. Now everyone in the company was so much happy that they were
producing more than ever. The sales were increased by 23% from past quarter. No
employee left the organization in past quarter. Rehan said if we analyze the past
quarter, we are best in the market. Waqas was so happy to hear that and he made
a hug to his best buddy. Suddenly the CEO and CFO of company arrived. Mr. Sajid Ali
(CEO) appreciated Rehans efforts and planning and awarded him the EMPLOYEE
OF MONTH title. Mr. Nabeel (CFO) also appreciated all team and announced some
extra perks for all team members.
