SECTION – A
ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
Time: 1 ½ Hours Maximum Marks: 35
PART A
Answer all questions.
I a) Two coils connected in series have a resistance of 9Ω and when connected in
parallel have a resistance of 2Ω. Find the resistance of each coil. (2
marks)
b) What do you mean by the slip of an induction motor? (2
marks)
c) Name one application of dc series motor. (1 mark)

PART B

b) Derive the rms and average values of a sine wave.
c) A sinusoidal flux 0.02Wb (maximum) links with 55 turns of a transformer
secondary coil. Calculate the rms value of the induced emf in the secondary. The
supply frequency is 50Hz.
(2 x 5 = 10 marks)
PART C
Answer all questions.
III i) State and explain Faraday’s laws of electromagnetic induction. (5
marks)
ii) A star-connected 3-phase load has a resistance of 12Ω and an inductive reactance of
16Ω in each branch. A line to line voltage of 415V is impressed across it. Find the
line current, phase current, phase voltage and power factor. (5marks)
OR
iii) Compare between electric and magnetic circuits. (5
marks)
iv) A circuit of resistance 15Ω and inductive reactance of 12Ω is connected in parallel
with another circuit consisting of a resistor of 25Ω in series with a capacitor of
capacitive reactance 17Ω. The combination is energized from a 200V, 50Hz supply.

PART A: Short answer questions (one/two sentences)

2 x 2 marks=4 marks
1 x 1 mark = 1 mark
All questions are compulsory. From each module, there should be at least one
question having 2 marks. The question having 1mark can be from any
module.

PART B: Analytical/Problem solving questions

2 x 5 marks=10 marks
Candidates have to answer two questions out of three. There should be at
least one question from each module and not more than two questions from
any module.

PART C: Descriptive/Analytical/Problem solving questions

2 x 10 marks=20 marks
Two questions from each module with choice to answer one question.
