applicable state, federal and local safety regulations and all operations shall be conducted in a
safe manner. Safety meetings shall be conducted at least weekly with a written record of
attendance and topic submitted to ADWEA-ADDC-AADC/ENGINEER.
2.7.2.5.7 Pipe
The pipes to be used on the project shall conform to ADWEA-ADDC-AADC/ENGINEERs
requirements covered elsewhere in this specifications and shall be sourced from approved
manufacturers.
High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes are to be installed at the end of drilling operation to
serve as cable conduits (Ducts) all along the drilling route. Quality of HDPE pipes, pipe
diameter, pipe wall thickness, and method of jointing the pipes shall be proposed by the
Contractor and approved by ADWEA-ADDC-AADC/ENGINEER prior to commencement of
works. Only pipes designed for high pressure working conditions (class SDR 17 or SDR 11 to
ISO-4427, or similar approved) shall be utilized. Operational requirements related to 400kV and
other cables shall be fully respected when deciding on sizes and characteristics of HDPE pipes.
Method of welding the pipes (Ducts) shall be proposed by the Contractor to assure that factor of
safety against joint failure is acceptable. Pipe joints and pipe wall thickness should be of
sufficient strength to resist the highest pulling force during installation and Contractor shall be
required to prove by calculation that strength of proposed pipes is satisfactory. The HDPE pipe
welding equipment should be an automatic butt welding system, which produces for each
welding joint a technical certificate. Each welding certificate should be registered and will be a
part of the documentation of the job. After welding the Contractor should remove the welding
Bed inside the pipe carefully.
For Pipe Arrangement of Underground Cable Conduits using Horizontal Directional Drilling
method, reference shall be made to the below listed drawings which are provided in the

2.7.2.5.8 Pilot Hole

The pilot hole shall be drilled on bore path with no deviations greater than 5% of depth over a
length of 30m. In the event that pilot does deviate from bore path more than 5% of depth in 30m,
the CONTRACTOR will notify the ENGINEER accordingly and the ENGINEER may ask the
CONTRACTOR to pull back and re-drill from the location along bore path before the deviation.
If mud fracture or returns loss continues, the CONTRACTOR will cease operations and notify
ADWEA-ADDC-AADC/ End users/ ENGINEER. The ENGINEER and CONTRACTOR will
discuss additional options and work will then proceed accordingly.
2.7.2.5.9 Reaming
Upon successful completion of pilot hole, the CONTRACTOR will ream borehole to a minimum
of 30% greater than outside diameter of the sleeve pipe using the appropriate tools. The
CONTRACTOR should not attempt to ream at one time more than the drilling equipment and
mud system are designed to safely handle.
2.7.2.6

Site Restoration

Following drilling operations, the CONTRACTOR will demobilize equipment and restore the
work-site to original condition. All excavations will be backfilled and compacted to ADWEAADDC-AADC/ENGINEER satisfaction. Landscaping (if required) shall be carried out by the
CONTRACTOR (or Subcontractor) to the full approval of ADWEA-ADDC-AADC/ENGINEER
and any other concerned authority.

The samples shall be immersed in the chemical solutions listed above for:
i) A period of 12 weeks and stored in a light-proof enclosure at an ambient temperature of 20oC.
or
ii) A period of 30 days and stored in a light-proof enclosure at an ambient temperature of 50oC.
2.8.2.3.8.3.4 Examination of Samples

The samples shall be removed from each chemical solution and then washed and dried. The
following properties shall be investigated and the requirements met:
i) Background discolouration:
The background colour of the 200 mm x 50 mm sample shall not have sufficiently discoloured

taken.
ii) Adhesion of Printing:
The adhesion of the printing on the 200 mm x 50 mm sample shall be assessed and shall be

2.8.2.3.8.4 Impact Test

320324581.doc

CIVIL WORKS
Civil Works for Underground Cables

2.8.2.3.8.4.1 Test Equipment

A pick similar to a pick-axe will fall against the test object. The pick shall be made of steel. It shall
be assembled to an apparatus which enforces the impact direction and impact point as described
below. The mass of the pick shall be 10 kg and the height of fall shall give an impact energy of 60
Nm.
2.8.2.3.8.4.2 Test Conditions

The test object shall be laid horizontally in dry compacted sand in a firm stable box. A sand layer
of at least 50 mm shall surround the test object. The impact point shall be 50 mm below the sand
surface level.
2.8.2.3.8.4.3 Test Series

Two test series, each with 5 impacts, shall be performed. In one of the series the edge of the pick
shall hit across and in the other along the longitudinal centre of the test object. The testing shall be
made partly at the lowest, partly at the highest temperatures to be considered.
The pick shall hit the longitudinal centre line of the test object. The impact point shall be located at

Required performance is that the edge of the pick may make a deformation of tile or pass through
the test object up to a length of 50 mm maximum.
The deformation or pass-through length is to be determined while the pick is still in the test object.
2.9

Cables Supported on Racks or Trays

The Bidder/Contractor shall supply all racks, trays and supporting steelwork for the cables
