Growing Wheat Grass - The Power House at Home

Growing a Powerhouse of Energy at Home

In my previous post, I had given a detailed description of Wheat grass
and its advantages. In this update, I am about to provide information
on growing wheat grass at your home. Growing wheat grass at your
own backyard or apartment is not a big deal. It can be done with a little
effort and expenditure. The entire process involves a period of 10-12
days. The wheat grass gets ready for the juice only after 10 days or
when the crop grows about 7-10 inches in size. Here are few simple
techniques of growing wheat grass at home.
Step1- Basic Preparations:

Planning is very essential to grow wheat grass at home. Plan to extract

the juice daily for a period of 21 days. For this you need seven plastic
trays/tubs. Make small holes at the bottom of the trays so that the
water poured on the plants does not stay in them. Fill the trays with
mud (preferred organic mud) and arrange them in order under the
direct sunlight at your back yard or balcony. If there is no backyard or
balcony, then put them near the windows getting sunlight. You can
even use artificial light of 100 W or more of florescent bulbs to grow the
seeds. Sunlight is preferred against the florescent lights because the
sun rays possess numerous healing powers in it.

Step2 Soaking of Seeds in Water:

Take your seeds and rinse them off thoroughly before use. Place the
seeds inside a clean container and cover them with clean water. Let the
seeds soak in the water for 12-15 hours. This soaking process infuses
the dry seed with moisture and softens their shells allowing easier
sprouting. Bad seeds (i.e. prone to mold) will typically float to the
surface and should be discarded if found. A great time to soak the
seeds is right before you go to bed as the seeds will be just about ready
when you wake up. Do not soak all the seeds at a time. Divide the
quantity of seeds for seven trays for seven days respectively. This
enables you to extract the juice for a period of seven days continuously
without a miss.
Step3 Sprouting of Seeds:

After soaking the seeds for 12-15 hours, its time to get them ready for
sprouting. Take a clean cotton cloth and pack the seeds into it and keep
it aside. Keep the pack always wet by sprinkling water from time to
time. In many metro cities, you can find a special bag of cloth for
sprouting. If you use this bag you dont need to sprinkle water
frequently. Let the seeds remain in the cloth pack for another 10-12
hours. After completing the prescribed time, remove the seeds from the
pack. You can now see tiny babe sprouts of the wheat seeds. The seeds
are now ready for sowing.
Step4 Sowing of Seeds:

Since the trays are readily arranged in a row, its time to sow the seeds
in the first tray. Spread the sprouted seeds all over the mud in the tray,
but be sure that the seeds do not overlap on each other. Now cover it
up with a light layer of mud over them and sprinkle some water.
Continue the same process for another six days in six trays as planned
before. First three days are very crucial. Sprinkle water regularly early
in the morning and evening. If the tray is kept under a florescent light,
spray water only once a day either in the evening or morning. After 48
hours, you'll see baby wheat grass sprouting everywhere. By this point
the seedlings would've attached roots to the soil and are on their way
to growing. Sprinkle the water daily or every other day depending on
the environment humidity. After about a week the wheat grass will
grow to be around 7-9 inches tall. This is optimum time to harvest.
Step5 Harvesting the Wheat grass:

After completion of 10 days, the grass in the first tray is ready to

harvest. Take a good scissor and cut the wheat grass at around 1/2
inches from the soil. After cutting the grass sprinkle water regularly.
The grass grows up again. Cut the grass again after 10 days to extract
the juice. Repeat the process with the grass in other trays as well.
This is how you can grow the wheat grass at your own backyard or an
apartment. When you try it for the first time you may not get the 100%
desired result. Dont get disappointed by that and learn by your
mistakes and you will succeed at some point of the time. In my next
update I am going to explain who should drink the wheat grass juice
and why? So, keep watching the space for more updates.

Wonders of Wheat Grass - The Green Blood

In my previous update, I had given a brief description of wheat grass

the green blood. In this post, I have come up with detailed description
and advantages of wheat grass juice or green blood.

Nature originally designed the foods on the earth in such a way that
they would not only nourish her earthly children, but would keep them
at a peak of health. Our mistake seems to be that we alter this grand
design by cooking, therefore destroying the food before we eat it. Don't
kill your food by cooking it.The body can act as its own physician when
provided with the proper tools (living organic nourishment), used in the
way nature intendedunprocessed, uncooked. Sprouts have become a
familiar item in salad bars and in the produce sections of grocery stores
for their known nutritional value. Another method to increase the
nutrients is to grow the seeds in shallow beds of soil and drink the juice
of the sprouted grass. Wheat, oats, rye, and barley are most commonly
grown this way.

Wheat Grass - The Green Blood

Hemoglobin:

TODAY WE SEE PLENTY OF PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM DEFICIENCY OF

HEMOGLOBIN. TO BEGIN WITH, LETS DISCUSS IN BRIEF ABOUT
HEMOGLOBIN, DEFICIENCY OF HEMOGLOBIN, EFFECTS AND CAUSES OF
LOW HEMOGLOBIN COUNT AND ITS CURE.

Hemoglobin is the iron - containing oxygen transport metallo-protein in

the red blood cells. Lack of Hemoglobin count in our red blood cells
leads to Anemia. Anemia is caused by too low count of red blood cells or
low count of Hemoglobin in red blood cells. You need iron for many
processes inside your body, especially for the production of oxygen
carrying pigment in your body called Hemoglobin.

Iron is absorbed from the food and drink you eat by your small
intestine. The iron is carried into the bone marrow where the blood
cells are produced. It combines with proteins to make Hemoglobin.
Spare iron can be stored in Liver. Iron will be lost from your body
through urine, dead skin cells, faeces and through bleeding.

Iron deficiencies or anemia leads to breathlessness, tiredness,

dizziness, feeling cold all the time, even when its warm and most other
people are comfortable, a rapid, week pulse, palpitations, headaches,

memory loss, irritation etc. In some people with anemia can develop
thin skin and spoon shaped or brittle nails. It can also cause painful
cracks at the sides of the mouth and a sore tongue. Occasionally, in
women over 40%, iron deficiency can be a symptom of a condition
called Plummer Vinson Syndrome, which causes difficulty while
swallowing due to small web like growths in the Esophagus (the pipe
that runs from your mouth to your stomach).

Wheat Grass or Green Blood:

On average, men need 8.7mg of iron a day and women need 14.8mg a
day. You can usually get all the iron you need from your diet. Because of
various reasons people lack iron deficiency. Many people take various
medicines for iron deficiencies. But they do not realize that our nature
has enough resources to refill our iron deficiencies. There are plenty
of fruits and vegetables which possess iron. But when the vegetables
are cooked, 80% of iron, minerals, vitamins and other enzymes get
evaporated while cooking. Always take raw food like fruits and juices to
gain iron, minerals, vitamins and enzymes. Where as, numerous people
in India and around the world cannot afford serving medicines, fruits
and juices every day due to their economic conditions. Innumerable
people in India die due to iron deficiencies unable to afford those costly
medicines, fruits and vegetables every day. But 90% of us do not know
that there is a valuable and affordable natural medicine available for
one and all. And that is.Wheat Grass! Yes, you heard it right! Wheat

Grass! It is the most powerful medicine in Naturopathy. It is termed as a

substitute for natural red blood cells. The wheat Grass possesses all the
compositions that Hemoglobin possesses. It is also known as Green
Blood because of its close structural similarity to Hemoglobin. Wheat
Grass contains many nutritious and prophylactic ingredients. It is rich in
Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin B, Vitamin E,Vitamin K, Laetrile (Vitamin
B17 which has been marked as anti-cancer effect) and several other
useful enzymes. Green Blood is also found useful for Heart
and Cardio Vascular System, Respiratory System, Digestive System,
Teeth and Gums, Joints, Brain and Nervous System and Skin diseases.
Wheat grass therapy has also been used with great success in kidney,
ear diseases and in several cancers.

In western countries like America, it is sold in the restaurants and

cafes. It is not very popular inIndia. It is not well promoted in our
country. Thanks to the efforts of Mantena Satyanarayana Raju, Green
Blood is now finding its place in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. No
one else has promoted in such a large scale before in India.

Today we have discussed about the Hemoglobin, causes and effects of

its deficiencies and Green Blood or Wheat Grass which we discussed as
a substitute for red blood cells called Hemoglobin. In my next update I
will come up with more details on wheat grass and the process of
germination in our own yards and apartments and the way of
administering the germination process in detail.

You'd think that people would realize that grass is for cows! But, why
on earth did people start drinking grass juice? Most grasses are good
for man and wheatgrass is the perfect food for man. Wheatgrass juice is
not very sweet for taste buds. In fact neither grass made into juice
tastes really deliciousbut the fact is that they of all the health foods
out there really deliver healthand fulfill all the claims made about
them.

Wheatgrass is the young grass shoots of the wheat seeds grown mostly
as lawns, used as pasture for grazing animals, cut and dried as hay. The
basic constituent of wheatgrass is chlorophyll - concentrated sun

power. Although chlorophyll is present in all green plants, wheatgrass

is considered its best source. The magic of the chlorophyll contained in
Wheatgrass was found by Dr. Ann Wigmore The discoverer of
this health tonic. The green liquid (juice) extracted from freshly
sprouted leaves of wheat grain contains high concentrations of
chlorophyll, active enzymes, amino acids, vitamins and other nutrients.
The high magnesium content of chlorophyll is known to activate as
many as 30 enzymes. It is one of the richest natural sources of vitamin
A and vitamin C. It is also an excellent source of calcium, iron,
magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, sulfur, cobalt, zinc, and
protein.

During the last ten or twenty years there has been a tremendous
explosion of information in the scientific literature to support the use of
natural medicine.

Wheat grass therapy teaches that it is the nature, which cures the
patient and not the physician. With the progress of civilization, we are
perhaps violating the laws of nature and that is why there is an
increase in disease. To be optimally effective, Wheat Grass Therapy
must be combined with exercise, a stress free life and proper diet.

Naturopaths termed wheatgrass as 'Green Blood' as there is a lot of

molecular structural similarities between haem (found in hemoglobin)
and chlorophyll, found in wheatgrass. Wheatgrass juice is immediately
absorbed into the bloodstream and gives immediate energy. On an
empty stomach, it is assimilated into the blood in about 20 minutes.
The energy lasts throughout the day. It is practically a fountain of youth
and was found to have numerous health benefits.

According to Dr. Ann Wigmore, the potent germicidal quality to guard

against bacterial attacks makes it an effective prescription for cases of
Pyorrhea (as a gargle), skin disease (applied as a poultice),
tuberculosis, ulcers and intestinal inflammation.

Experts point out that wheatgrass loaded with numerous minerals and
vitamins purify the blood and boost the functioning of the lungs and the
kidneys. The high therapeutic measure of Vitamin E strengthens the
heart, the blood vessels and improves sexual performance and fertility.
The health benefits of wheat grass juice are endless. As a detergent, it
has excellent detoxifying, cleansing, alkalizing, and deodorizing
properties, especially of the bowel and blood, absorbing waste products
and encouraging excretion from the body. This wonder grass is known
to assist skin allergies, and stimulates regeneration of healthy tissue
for wounds, burns and slow healing ulcers.

Anemia is highly prevalent in India particularly amongst the adolescent

girls and pregnant women. Wheatgrass juice is the best medicine to
increase hemoglobin than any other drugs. The chlorophyll of the
wheatgrass is easily absorbed into the body and is converted into
hemoglobin as both wheatgrass and chlorophyll have similar molecular
structure. It is also useful for Thalassemic patients. In a Pilot study
conducted by the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and
Research, Chandigarh in 2003 has proven that Wheatgrass Juice
reduces Transfusion requirement in patients with Thalassemia. There
was a decrease in amount of transfusion as well as the increase in
interval between transfusions.

Dr. Jeff S. Volek, Ph.D states that this plant fiber suppresses appetite,
helps you lose weight, reduces the insulin surge from food
and lowers cholesterol levels thus aiding in reducing obesity. Studies
conducted by Dept. of Family Medicine, Israel Institute of Technology
have shown that Wheatgrass juice is effective and safe in the treatment
of active distal Ulcerative Colitis.

Anecdotal reports describe tumor regressions by including wheat grass

therapy along with a healthy eating regime. Wheat grass may prevent
the metabolic activation of some cancers, therefore is said to have
anticancer properties, and may also be used to minimize the effects of
radiation exposure.

Cosmetic houses are now looking at sunbeams in a different light. Dr. Li

Smith quotes in her book A chest of Remedies for Health and Beauty
that the juice, taken regularly as a drink and/or applied to the skin, can
really make a big difference to health, appearance and well-being by
improving complexion, treating acne and removing acne scars. Why
because, wheatgrass affects the skin and other organs on a cellular
level.

Wheatgrass juice is the nectar of rejuvenation. It also improves the

texture of the skin, and heals the dryness associated with aging. Wheat
grass juice also keeps hair from graying, and removes dandruff. For
lustrous and bouncy hair, rub the juice into the scalp; wait for ten
minutes, shampoo and rinse.

I hope many of you have understood the essence of green blood by

now. I request all of you to refer this wonderful medicine to the people
suffering from low hemoglobin / iron levels. In my next update, I will
explain in detail about the process of wheat grass germination at your
own backyards and apartments. So, keep watching the space for more
updates.
