1.ChannelutilizationNetworkanalyzersreportchannel
utilizationinpercentageoftimespenttransmittingand
receivingframes.Thishelpstomeasurethepotential
varianceinspeedduetodistancefromanaccesspoint.
Thiswillhelpmonitorandseeforexample,ifachannelis
fullyoccupiedtransmittingat1Mbpsunderidealconditions
wouldperformat0.94Mbpsunder100%utilization.
2.Thephysicalmediumusedinwirelessaswelldictatesthe
performances.Using802.11gor802.11aover802.11b
offersmuchhigherthroughputs,oftenupto30mbpsover
802.11bwherea6mpbsradiocapacityisdividedbetween
alltheassociatedstations.
3.CellSizesItisrecommendedtoshrinkthecellsizesto
havetheclientsasclosertotheAPsaspossible.Thiswill
benefitthedataratesatwhichtheclientcanconnecttothe
AP.Thiscanbedonebyreducingthepowerlevelsonthe
APtothelowest.
4.Shrinkingcellsizealsodecreasescochannelinterference.
IfusingRRM,theAPsshouldpickchannelsdynamicallyper
thedeployment.However,ifimplementingdynamicchannel
assignment,ensurethatyoudonothavetwoAPsathigh
powerlevelsonthesamechannelrightnexttoeachother.
