Dear Friend,
Greetings once again in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and from
everyone here at the church in Torrington. We wish everyone a happy Father's day
this month. I am fortunate to have a great dad. Now that I am older I appreciate
my parents more than ever.
There is a beautiful verse of Scripture found in Romans 8:15 that says,
"For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have
received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba Father." It is no light
thing for a person to receive the Holy Spirit, for it is the seal of our acceptance by
God to become a son or daughter of God. When God the Father adopts a person, it
is to bring them into sonship. He places His eternal seed into their spirit, which
begins to grow and develop. Only that person can stop the growth. No one else
can do it; not even the devil can take that eternal seed out of the spirit of a man.
As we learn to trust the Lord and grow in His grace and knowledge, that seed
develops and the life of Christ becomes manifest in the character of that person.
We are taught to draw closer and closer to the Lord through prayer and reading
our Bibles. Being thankful in every situation we find ourselves in takes our minds
off the cares and worries of life, for we are trusting in our heavenly Father to keep
us and help us.
We read in the Bible where the Lord Jesus always called God His "Father."
He showed us by example of how our relationship with God should be. I recently
heard a minister say that the world refers to the Lord as "God." But we, the
church, the Body of Christ, His sons and daughters, address Him as "Father God."
We know Him because of His nature in us. I met the Lord over 40 years ago. I
became born again of the Spirit when I asked Him to forgive me of my sins and
for Him to come and help me live this Christian life. But over the years I have
discovered that "God" has been more to me than just a spiritual entity out in space
somewhere. He has guided my life and helped me in very many areas. I am
convinced that God is my Father because He has provided peace in the midst of
storms, encouragement when all else has failed, and a hope that is steadfast and
sure. He has allowed me to experience the ups and downs of ministry, yet He
abides faithful. He is my heavenly Father whom I love. I cherish His presence and
look up to Him in every way. His example while here on earth has helped me

many times over the years. He has loosed the bondages of of doubts, and He has
granted life and grace and mercy to me and to everyone who dares to put their
trust in Him.
The Scripture says He has given us the Spirit of adoption. Father God has
chosen us out of this world. He has hand-picked His children, and through the
sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, has provided the means and access into the
very presence of God the Father. It is this Spirit of adoption that enables us to cry,
"Abba Father," or, "My own Father!" When a person responds to the call of God
the Father, the Holy Spirit bears witness to their spirit that they, too, have become
the son of God through Christ. It is the Spirit that makes us joint-heirs with Christ
Jesus. We inherit eternal life through Christ. There will be times of persecution for
His name sake, but it will never compare "with the glory which shall be
revealed in us." That glory is Christ Jesus! He is the glory and the lifter up of our
heads. He is the peace that passes all understanding. He is the love that is deeper
and wider and higher than any other love known to man. He is the way, the truth,
and the life. He is the Beauty we receive in exchange for ashes, He is the "oil of
joy" for mourning, and He is the "garment of praise" for the spirit of heaviness
(Isaiah 61:3).
The apostle John wrote some of the most gracious words ever penned by
mortal man. One such verse is found in I John 3:1 which says, "Behold, what
manner of love the father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called
the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him
not." The world doesn't know Him because they have nothing to do with Him.
But we who are saved, who are the called in Christ Jesus, know Him because we
communicate with Him daily, and we love Him and know that He loves us.
Therefore we are His sons and daughters. This relationship is possible because He
first loved us. It is my prayer that you will become acquainted with the Lord
Jesus, not because you have sinned, but because He loves you and gave His life
for you, that you and I may have eternal life. Let this Father's Day month be the
time you open your heart to Father God and allow Him to love you and strengthen
you through His Spirit. May God bless you!
