We can see how the same object, a flag, involves different meaning in

different contexts. Several small flags in a street, disposed as an ornament

for the buildings, indicate the beginning of a festivity and reflect the
peoples enthusiasm. They possibly stand for some past event that is
expected to be remembered as a quite important part of a culture. Flags
may be a source of proud for a community. On contrary, a flag can be an
international signal to convey a message easily recognizable, as in the
second case, the flag indicates nobody should go into the sea due to the
fact that something is wrong; a strong wind, waves, or pollution. The first
flags fit perfectly into the context and represent the overall enthusiasm and
joy, and help cheering people up by mean of bright colors and shapes. But
the second flag stand out in the lonely beach otherwise, and is perfectly
legible, because that is the main function: to stress a forbidden, or prevent
people from dangers.

Both photographs show a wheel, a mechanic principle adapted to different

function in each case. In fact, the structures of these engines, a water mill,
and a big wheel, are as similar in appearance as different in their uses. The
mill is quite important for developing an agrarian work, and is used to
transform the stream of water of canals and rivers into energy. It is essential
for the life of people, because it makes their life easier and it allows them to
increase the production of goods. But the second wheel is just an engine for
leisure, usually set up in some amusement parks. It is quite less important,
regarding the only function of this structure is provide people a lovely view
over the city from the heights. So to tell, while the mill produces something,
the wheel wastes energy without any profit. Even so, this one is more
beautiful and stunning than the former one.

In both cases the gestures of each woman provide us a quite rich source of
information about their feelings, even though they are unconscious. So
happens in the first photograph, where a mother possibly is carrying out
different tasks at the same time. This is the cause for which she is
overwhelmed, worried, and possible in a hurry, since she is watching her
watch in anxious manners. While the phone conversation in this case, and
the children having breakfast, indicates that two different matters are
expected to be sorted out at the same time by the first woman, the second
woman is expressing the opposite feeling. Her smile, her relaxed attitude,
she is possibly spending time talking to anyone just for fun, so she is in a
break, or on holidays. The absence of any task makes her to be amused and
liberated of any responsibility. On second thought it just happens that the
second woman is younger than the first one, and this makes me think it
over: more age, more responsibility, bring about less rest and calm.

These photographs represent quite different ways of organizing things. The

differences lie down in the kind of things stored in each case. So a computer
database is useful when you are dealing with information. A hard disk is
able to save such a quantity of any type of documents, just when they are
been scanned or turned into bits. Whereas storages are necessary when you
are working with physical objects, box of paper, packages, or something
else. There are lots of computer tools that improve considerably the
searching, you only have to put a word in a command and the results came
up just in a second, and that is why, both systems old signatures, and
computer bases, work very well together. Nowadays commercial storages,
libraries, all kind of business and catalogues, are represented in computer
bases that help people finding whatever they are looking for in a physical
space (obviously, when it exist some link between signatures). That happens
in most of modern museums of arts, which lately have digitalized all their
items, so you can check them before going to the gallery.

Both photographs represent extreme climates, the first one a hard rain that
brings about a natural disaster, a flooding, and involve a great deal of
destruction. The second is a desert, where the life is not possible because
the lack of water. But the water might falls down not only trees and
buildings but also all kind of urban infrastructures, such as the water and
the electric systems, bridges and roads. An extreme dryness as well as a
great deal of rains, may affects peoples life badly, to the extent to ruin all
what they need to live, as well as what they need to take it over by
themselves. So it happens, a natural disaster deprives people from being
able to recover their life as previously were, because they lack even basic
resources.
Both climates could be the consequence of the greenhouse effect, or at
least they may stand for very well how the global warming is going to affect
our lives in the future if we dont find solutions. Just a few people are able to
live in a desert. Tuaregs, or Mongols, are able to survive in these conditions.
They own such a knowledge, how to extract water and food from plants and
animals, or how to find the path looking up the stars. But I dont think the
life in a carpet of sand is much more desirable than in a pool.

These photographs represent different shopping places. The first one, a

shopping mall is devoted to luxury brands, and the product these shops
offer are more expensive than those in the small shops or local markets.
When people make their shopping daily in tiny shops or small storages, they
are looking for basic products, such as food or objects used daily. And that is
why these places are set up in the middle of neighborhoods, or in urban
centers, halfway between workplaces and homes. The shopping mall offers
a great deal of expensive products, and the qualities of these objects
depend on designs directly. They renovate their products constantly

following all kind of fads. On contrary, what we usually buy in small shops
are products that never change. Moreover, there isnt any relationship
between shop assistants and customers in shopping malls. Whereas in the
small shops, clerks are well known among people, thus customers usually
trust in them and dont care too much about the quality of the products
taken into their bags.

Both photographs represent several kids playing games which involve

different kind of relationships, not only between themselves, but also with
the environment. Today is well known that videogames increase certain
cognitive capacities, and can be a very useful educative tool. And whats
more, a fairly good way to keep children entertained when they are
expected to keep in calm, during a long travel by car, like in this case.
However, even though lots of videogames are progressing in this goal, most
of them are designed to be played alone, and is noticeable the lack of
interaction between children when playing this. On the second photograph,
children playing football, not only are carrying out a physical activity which
is quite healthy, but also developing values as comradeship and improving
capacities to work in a group. This is why outdoor games are twice as much
interesting as videogames. So happens that most experts in education are
supporting physical development in children as the most interesting way to
teach fundamental social values too.

From my point of view both photographs have something in common, they

represent two ways of preventing disease among young population. The first
one is a campaign about healthy eating habits carried out in a primary
school. It is widely held that most of our adult illness has some relationship
with, to some extent, a lack of education in this matter. From obesity to all
kind of blood diseases may be prevented just modifying a few bad habits,
such as consume of too much sugar in infancy. The second photography, a
doctor vaccinating a kid, has the same meaning, preventing. In this case,
obviously, the effectiveness of the measure is higher since the treatment
doesnt involve a great effort from the patience side. Both measures are
useful, and can benefit the local community in different aspects. Vaccinating
children prevent from infectious illness, and prevent the medical services
from treat a great deal of patients when usual illness as flu appears in
winter. And the same for eating habits, in addition, if we regard as many
adults have serious illness directly related to a health of exercise and an
excessive consume of fats.
