would like to meet either before or after school)
1st and 6th period
Welcome to Chemistry 2 Honors!

We will start our semester with a review of what you learned in Chem 1 (just to make sure were all
on the same page). After that, we continue on, looking at the mole and stoichiometry. This will
take us through the first quarter. During the second quarter, well cover topics such as acids and
bases, solutions, solubility, as well as others. With labs on about half of the block days, youll get a
real hands-on experience with your chemistry studies. Plus, we all know how awesome we look in
lab googles!
Class Expectations:
Respect yourself, others, and the space around you. Take responsibility for your
actions.
No copying or plagiarism: when one student gives answers to another student, both
students have cheated and will receive a zero on the activity.
Be prepared and be on time: bring all materials and assignments every day.
Stay in your seat until you are excused. Class is over when the teacher excuses you.
Electronic devices may be used ONLY with teachers permission. If the teacher
suspects use of electronic devices, the device will be confiscated for the duration of the class. If
it becomes a reoccurring problem, consequences will escalate.
Clean up after yourself.
Laboratory safety rules must be followed at all times. Failure to follow proper
laboratory safety protocol may result in the loss of credit and/or other consequences.
No Food or drink in class (except water) unless permitted by the teacher.
Materials:
You are responsible for all materials passed out in class. You should keep them organized and
accessible each day in class. To that end, you should bring the following to class every day:

Binder: a 3-ring binder with dividers. This is to keep everything that you do in and out of
class. DO NOT THROW ANYTHING AWAY!!

Composition book (lined but not grid-lined) for labs

Pen, pencil, and straight-edge

Calculator (graphing calculator is not necessary)

Grading: Students, parents and guardians have access to online grade reports through
Skyward (this page can be accessed through my website). Grades will be weighed as per the
following categories:

40% Tests & Quizzes

30% Laboratory Assignments/Projects

20% Homework and Small In-class Activities

10% Final

Grading Scale:
93 -100% -- A
90 - 92% -- A 87 - 89% -- B+

83 - 86% -- B
80 - 82% -- B 77 - 79% -- C +

73 - 76% -- C
70 - 72% -- C67 - 69% -- D+

60 - 66% -- D
Below 60% -- F

Grades are based on a total accumulation of points in each of the above sections
over the course of the entire semester.

Rounding up is not the general practice in this class and will occur in exceptional cases only.
To be considered, you must not have any missing assignments.

Laboratory grades will be determined from the laboratory report. Due dates for labs will vary
but will be announced during the pre-lab. Lab reports turned in after the due date
could lose up to 10% per day late.

Homework problems will be assigned from the text and other sources. Late homework
assignments will receive half credit. Time will be allowed in class for homework when
appropriate.

An assignment is considered late if it is not ready to be turned in by the start of class. Ready
to be turned in means it is together, stapled, and easily accessible.

Pre-laboratory assignments must be completed prior to the laboratory experiment. Students

who have not completed the pre-lab may not be allowed to participate in the lab and will have
to make it up as described in the Absences section. Additionally, late pre-lab assignments
will not be accepted.

Extra Credit is given occasionally when an appropriate opportunity arises. It is not

scheduled or regular so take advantage of it when its offered. Late extra credit
assignments will not be accepted for credit.

When assignments are not turned in on the due date, Skyward will reflect a zero
and missing for the assignment until such time as they are turned in. This applies
to late work as well as work that was not turned in due to absence.

There is a deadline for all missing work at the end of the semester (3:15 on the Friday
before finals week). After this time, all missing work will receive a score of zero.

The above class policies are in place to facilitate student learning and progress through the class.
As the course progresses, the information you will be learning will build on previous knowledge.
As such, it is important to stay up to date with your learning. Because one must practice new skills
and knowledge, you will be assigned homework frequently (almost daily). Additionally, by turning
in assignments, you are providing your teacher with information that can be used to adjust class
instruction. And, in turn, you can get feedback on your own learning.
Turning Work In
Please make sure your name and the assignment are clearly listed at the top of the page.
Homework will be submitted on the day of a quiz or test.
Absences and Make-up Work:
It is your responsibility to obtain assignments or notes you missed during an excused absence.
Students with unexcused absences may not be allowed to make up the work and may receive a
score of 0 for the assignment, quiz, or test.

Assignments: If a student is absent on a homework due date the student must have the
assignment ready to turn in at the beginning of the next day they are in class. If a student is
absent on a day when homework is assigned two days will be given to complete the homework
for each day missed. This only applies to excused absences.

Labs: Labs can be made up before or after school on a day and time that you and the teacher
agree upon. Labs must be made up within one week from when it was given. A
laboratory partner should be present. Schedule the make up with Ms. T.

Tests: Tests are announced well in advance, so students absent the day before a test will be
expected to take the test on the date of return. Students absent the day of a test or quiz are
required to schedule the make-up of that test or quiz within two days of their return.

Excessive absences or tardiness may affect semester grades.

Missing work from 3rd quarter will be considered late during 4th quarter
regardless of whether or not you were absent.
