Abstract
Factor analysis is used to simplify the analysis of
variables with a certain amount into a new factor with a
smaller without reducing the information on these
variables. Step-by-step analysis of factors which are
consisted of variable selection, formation factor and
interpretation of the results of factor analysis. The results
obtained in determining the factors that influence
travelers surfing Uluwatu Beach namely the
establishment of seven new factor of 25 initial variables
are used. The new factor that is formed can describe the
information contained in the initial variables. These
factors namely, Quality and Consistency Waves, Concern
Local Community, Surfing Facility, Popularity,
Accessibility, Securities and Uniqueness Waves.

I. INTRODUCTION
Surfing (Surfing) is a sport that is challenging and related
with high waves. Surfing can be categorized into sport that has
dangerous risk. Nonetheless, surfing much favored by tourists
who have courage. For most traveler, surfing is a hobby that
has the highest priority in his life. The main thing of concern
for the surfers when visiting a beach is the waves. Perfect
waves gives tremendous satisfaction for surfers. So that the
surfers keen to travel from island to island to find perfect
waves.
Bali is one island that is visited by surfers. This is because
there are many beaches has attraction for surfing, such as the
beach of Kuta, Legian, Keramas and Medewi. Uluwatu beach
is one of the famous beaches visited by surfers. Uluwatu beach
is a favorite beach for tourists who have a hobby of surfing.
Almost every day the beach is filled by tourists who surf from
different continents, both tourists who first surfed this beach
and who have never surfed before. Each of tourist has many
different reason to be influenced to surf in this beach.
Therefore, the authors are interested in conducting research
on the analysis of the factors influencing the travelers for
surfing in Uluwatu Beach using factor analysis.
2. Surfing
Surfing is a famous water sport in the world. Although
surfing has an extremely dangerous due to the risk associated
with the waves, but the sport is favored by various groups, from
children to the elderly. Based on [3], surfing is a the art of
riding waves. The surfers using a surfboard to ride the waves.
Surfboard used also have the different size. In [4] The two main
types are shortboards and longboards. A shortboards measures
about 6 to 7 feet (2 meters) long. Its small size makes its esay
to control. Shortboards are great for doing tricks. Longboards
measures 9 feet (3 meters) or longer. They are more stable than
shortboards. Surfers can balance more easily on longboards
3. Factor Analysis
In [5] Factor analysis (more properly exploratory factor
analysis) is concerned with whether the covariances or
correlations between a set of observed variables can be
explained in terms of a smaller number of unobservable
constructs known either as latent variables or common factors.
According to [6] the factor analysis model expresses each
variable as a linear combination of underlyingcommon factors
f1,f2,... ,fm, with an accompanying error term to account for
that part of the variable that is unique (not in common with the
other variables). For y1,y2,... ,y pin any observation vector y,
the model is as follows:

2. Establishment of Factor
There are two important things in this step is determining the
number of factors and factor rotation. Determination of the
number of factors by looking at the value obtained from the
total variance explained, scree plot, communalitas, and matrixs
component distribution. While the rotation factor is to obtain
the simplicity and ease of interpreting a factor obtained from
the matrix component distribution.

Based on the results in the table above, shows that the value of
Cronbach's Alpha of factor 1 to factor 6, is greater than 0.6. It
can be concluded that all of the variables can be used for further
analysis.

Based on the output above, the result for the value of KMO is
0.762, which means greater than 0.5 and the significant value
of Sphericity Bartlett's Test is 0.000 which is smaller than
alpha. It concluded that these variables can be used to simplify
the 25 variables that used.
