Aim-Dismantle dynamo clean and inspect all

components,repair/replace defective parts reassemble.

Apparatus Required- screw driver ,ring spanner ,soldering rod,
spanner, wire brush,multimeter.
Theory - A dynamo is an electrical generator that produces direct
current with the use of a commutator. Dynamos were the first
electrical generators capable of delivering power for industry, and
the foundation upon which many other later electric-power
conversion devices were based, including the electric motor, the
alternating-current alternator, and the rotary converter. Today, the
simpler alternator dominates large scale power generation, for
efficiency, reliability and cost reasons. A dynamo has the
disadvantages of a mechanical commutator. Also, converting
alternating to direct current using power rectification devices
(vacuum tube or more recently solid state) is effective and usually
economic.
Procedure1.Disconnect the battery leads.
2. Remove the air cleaner for easier to access the alternator.
3. Mark the placement of the electrical leads before removing them.
4. Disconnect the electrical leads.
5.Remove the vehicle's serpentine belt.
6. Remove the mounting bolts and familiarize yourself with their
placement.
7.Pull the dynamo out.
8.Undo the pulley nut by just a few threads, then, holding the
armature in one hand, gently tap the nut with a soft-faced hammer to
force the shaft out of the pulley.
9.To prise off the pulley, insert two screwdrivers between the back
of the pulley and the front plate. Gently force the pulley up at the
centre not the rim, which could damage the pulley. If this method
fails you will have to use a pulling tool, taking care not to damage
the pulley.

10.Removing the pulley nut.The pulley nut is usually very tight and is
recessed into the pulley. Use a socket or ring spanner to free it.
11.Before refitting the pulley, tap the Woodruff key well into its slot
(curved edge down), with the front end slightly lower than the back,
so that the slot in the pulley hole engages with it easily.
12.Line up the slot in the pulley with the Woodruff key in the shaft,
then push the pulley home on the shaft. Some dynamos may have a
spacer or shim between the pulley and front plate: do not forget to
replace it.
13.After refitting the dynamo, check that the pulley is in line with the
fan and crankshaft pulleys.
14.There may also be spacer washers between bracket and dynamo.
These, too, must be replaced in their original positions, or the pulley
will be out of line.
15.Put the alternator back in the vehicle.
16.Reconnect the electrical leads assuring that you're installing
them properly.
17.Replace the serpentine belt.
18.Reinstall the air cleaner and verify that the belt tension and
mounting bolts are right.
19.Inspect the heat shield at the back of the alternator to verify that
it is properly installed.
20.Reinstall the battery leads.
Test- start the car and check the charging of battery using
multimeter .

Result- Dynamo is repaired.
