A. The Definitions of Descriptive Text
Descriptive text is a kind of text which describes particular thing, animal, person, or
others, for instance: our pets or a person that is known well (Wardiman, 2008:122).
B. The Social Function
The social and specific function of descriptive text is to give about an object (human
or non-human) (Pardiono, 2007 : 34).
C. The Generic Structure of Descriptive Text
There are two generic structure of descriptive text in the general as follows:
1. Identification
Identification is a part of paragraph which introduces or identifies the character to
be described. It can be called general description of the subject. Usually it contains
objects name, kind of the object, etc.
2. Description
Description is a part of paragraph which describes parts and characteristics of the
person or something that will be describe in detail, so the readers can get clear the
description of the subject.
D. The Language Feature of Descriptive Text
According to Wardiman (2008 : 122) there are three language features of descriptive
which are as follows:
1. Focus on one specific subject
Focus on what would you describe if you want to describe about the place just
think about it, focus on what place that you would describe, then identifying that place
after that write down the description of the place.
2. The use of adjectives.
Adjective (Wonderful, Exotic, Amazing, Beautiful, Tall, Big, Large etc) and
adjective Phrase (Wonderful place, Amazing beach, The highest Mountain etc).
3. Using simple present tense. (is, am, are, do, does,)

Regional IX, as government-funded institution that coordinates private


higher education in eastern Indonesia.
The last few years, University of Muhammadiyah Makassar is
working with various local governments in Indonesia and also in Malaysia,
as well as cooperation with Universiti Teknologi Malasysia (UTM) in the
service of learning programs.
Now days, University of Muhammadiyah Makassar continues to
develop the international cooperation with various universities in the world,
such as Hiroshima University Japan, Kyungdong University Korea and Ho
Chi Min University of Technology Vietnam, etc. in order to improve the
quality of its teaching staff and the student. Some of the cooperation are
student exchange and Lectures exchanges. In addition, the University of
Muhammadiyah Makassar also conduct the cooperation in terms of

research and teaching programs, seminars or conferences and create journal


publication.
