BYOD/BYOT Implementation Plan for Grade 6 in English Language Arts

Students are using apps on smartphones and tablets at home and can benefit with
classroom activities on their mobile devices. I selected to research apps for ipads and
iphones since the library has ipads available for teacher checkout.

Item #1 BYOD/BYOT Policies

DeKalb County School District has an electronic device policy provided on page 12 in the
Student Code of Conduct: http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/www/documents/studentrelations/code-of-student-conduct-(2015-2016).pdf
The cell phone policy states no use of personal cell phones or other devices except for
approved instructional purposes. There is no BYOD policy.

Item #2 Platform
DeKalb County School District selected Office 365 software package for students
enrolled in the county. Students can install Office 365 Pro applications on up to 5
devices (PC, MAC, and/or mobile device).
PC: Windows (Office 2013): Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Access, OneNote, Publisher, and Lync
Mac (Office 2011): Word, Excel Outlook and Powerpoint

Item #3 Accommodations for Students without an Electronic Device

Ipad carts for 30 students can be checked out for projects (on a rotating basis with other
classes in the school) so I selected apps for ipads so students would have opportunity
for an individual device during some classroom activities.
Item #4 Grouping
Projects can be assigned to small groups of 2 to 4 students with one device available for
each group. Students can be paired so the more experienced device user is with the less
experienced device user.
