(Fig.2)

x Check the air pressure and add air only when the tires are cool.
x Always replace the valve cap after checking the air pressure.
* A tire placard showing the standard tire inflation pressure is affixed on the lower part of the right door. (Refer to Fig. 2)

Cracks, damage and foreign material of tire

1.

Check the treads and the sides of the tires for any cracking or damage.

Also, be sure that no foreign materials such as stone, nails are

embedded in the surface of the treads or the sides of tires.
(Refer to Fig. 3)

2.

lf you find any defects in any tire, repair or replace the tire with a new
one.

3.

lf the cracks reaches inside conslruction or if it is exposed, do not use

the tire. The tire's intended strength will not be retained and it might get
damaged.

(Fis.3)

Groove depth and abnormal wear of tire

1.

Groove depth of tire

1)
2)

Check to see that enough depth of grooves are remaining on the tire.
When the tire has worn down to lhe minimum groove depth, the wear
sign mark appears at the tire slip sign location

(A

position). When
SLIP SIGN LOCATION
MARK

the slip sign comes out, the lire becomes slippery and it is dangerous.

SLIP SIGN POSITION

Replace the tire with a new one. (Refer to Fig. 4)

3)
2.

When driving on an expressway, check the groove depth.

Fis.4

Abnormal wear of tire

1)
2)

Check the surface of tread for any abnormal wear. (Refer to Fig. 5)
lf you find any abnormal wear, have your vehicle checked by your

BNORMAL

authorized HINO dealer.

2.

Check all the wheel nuts for looseness with the wheel nut wrench.

There are two kinds of wheel; one is SAE type, the other is ISO type. There is a difference on how to check tightness

normal.
lf the coolant level is low, first check to see that there is no leakage of the coolant in the cooling system and add coolant
up to

the'FULL'line. (Refer to Fig. 8 and Fig. 9)

heavy duty (Fig. 8)

medium duty (Fig. 9)

A sudden drop in the coolant level indicates that there may be a water leak in the cooling system. Have your
inspected and maintenance at your nearesl authorized HINO dealer.

Replenishment of coolant is done from the reserve tank. Do not open the radiator cap.
Check the coolant level and add the coolant while the engine is cold.

1.

Open the front panel and check to see amount of window washer solution. lf the amount of window washer solution is
insufficient, open the cap and replenish the solution.

1.

Pull out the oil level gauge and wipe ofl the oil. lf you check after driving, wait for a while after stopping the engine.
(Refer to Fig. 12)

2.

Reinsert the gauge completely and pull it out again. lf the oil level is within the slotted zone, it is normal. (Refer to Fig' 13)
lf the oil is insufflcient, replenish the oil.

Draining water in the air tank (full air brake and air over brake onrv}

1.

Pull the drain cock lever at the bottom of the air tanks and check to see
if there is any water coming oul from the air tank. (Refer to Fig. 21)

(Fis 21)

2.

As the vehicle is equipped wilh an air dryer, normally there is no water in the air tank. However, when the temperature in

the air tank fall more than 16'C{61" F} (case where the air is filled in the daytime and draining is done early in the

3.

morning), a little bit of water will be coming out from the exhaust port. This is not abnormal.

lf much water or any oil is drained when inspecting, the chemical drying agent in your vehicle's air dryer has probably lost
its effectiveness. ln this case, contact your authorized HINO dealer immediately for inspection of the air dryer and
replacement of the drying agent.

'

Brake fluid level (hvdraulic brake and air over brake onlvl

1.

check the fluid level in the reserve tank to see that the level is not too low.
lf the fluid level is between "MAX.' and 'MlN,", it is normal. lf the fluid level is
lower than "MlN.", first check to see that there is no leakage of fluid in the piping
and then replenish the fluid up to the "MAX.' line. (Refer to Fig.22)

2.
3.

As the brake lining becomes wom, the brake fluid level goes down. This is not due to the fluid leakage.
lf the level is excessively low, there may be a leakage from the pipes. Contacl your authorized HINO dealer for inspection
and repair.

1.

Turn the key to "ST' position and check if the engine starts quickly.

2.

Do not engage the starter for more lhan 15 seconds at a time.

1)

Use pre-heater if the coolant temperature is below

.

Simultaneously with the extinction of the preheat indicator lamp (within 5 seconds), fully depress the clutch

As the pre-heater consume a greal deal of electric power, avoid repeated operation as far as possible because
it will impose a great burden on batteries.

Check if the window washer and wiper operate normally.

Operate window washer, and check if the window washer solution is
sprayed to the windshield. The window washer solution is not sprayed to
the windshield if the spray hole is clogged. ln this case, remove any foreign
