National Competition for Students on RCC building Design

THE COMPETITION
Designing India sponsors a structural design competition for Civil Engineering
Students. Innovative projects demonstrating excellence in structural engineering
are invited for submission
THE OBJECTIVE
The main objective of this competition is to create awareness about the actual
industry practices in Structural Design of RCC Building. It also aims at providing
platform for Civil Engineering Students to test their understanding of RCC
Structures and its behavior at National Level.
THE THEME
The theme of the competition is to design G+3 Storey RCC Building for the given
area
THE PRIZE
A written submission including the detailed analysis, design calculation and
presentation will be judged. Prizes on board are as follows:
First Place: iball Tarang 4.1 Speaker
Second Place: American Tourister Back Pack
Third Place: HP- 8GB Pen Drive
Fourth Place: Designing India T Shirt (Customized as per Winners requirement)
Consolation Prizes (Top 20) :Design Guide/Philosophy by Designing India (Data
CD)

APPLICATION PROCESS
1.

To apply, fill this application form.

2.

After Submitting the online form, mail a scanned copy /photo of undertaking
of professor in the following
format. Download. (designingindia.iitk@gmail.com)

3.

After receiving the mail, a confirmation mail from Designing India will be
sent to you acknowledging the receipt of your application.

COMPETITION RULES AND REGULATIONS


1.

ONLY Undergraduate/Postgraduate Civil Engineering STUDENTS are


eligible to participate in the competition.

2.

The hard copy of Final Design Document should be undersigned by a


Professor from your college. Entries without signature from the professor will
be considered disqualified.

3.

Entries can be submitted in GROUP consisting of a maximum of 4 Students

4.

No Student can participate in more than one group.

5.

No Late entries at any stage of submission shall be entertained.

6.

The decision of Designing India shall be final and binding to all.

7.

The submission shall be done in 2 stages.

Stage 1: Online Submission of Abstract


Stage 2: Hard Copy Submission of Final Design and Document
undersigned by Mentor Professor.
References, if any must be clearly stated at every place.

There is no limitation on the number of participating groups from any


Institution.

10.

Originality of work is essential and the application will be disqualified, if


found.

11.

Designing India will not take any responsibility in case of missing of any
documents /communications (if any) from any side while in transit.

Last Date for Online Abstract Submission:Sunday, 17th November 2013
Last Date for Final Design Submission:Monday, 09th December 2013
Declaration of Result:Sunday, 05th January 2014
Individual Feedback will be given to the participating groups after receiving
abstract

JUDGING CRITERION
Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Design of G+3 (3 typical floors for residence and Ground Floor for Parking) RCC
residential building for a given area. Participants are required to make the plan and
perform the Structural. The various parameters to be considered are:

Plan area: 16m X 16m

Ground floor will be used for Car Parking and Typical Floor will consists of
residential

Requirements for space utilization at each floor except Ground Floor

Typical Floor Height 3.2m

Ground Floor Height 4 m

Site Location: Delhi

Subgrade Modulus of Soil: 30kN/m2

Steel Grade for Reinforcement :Fe500

9.

Masonry Wall Density: 25kN/m3


Except for the guidelines mentioned above, suitable rational assumptions may be
made to complete the work. However, all the considerations with valid explanation
must be clearly specified in the write-up. Innovation in space utilization will fetch
extra points.
SUBMISSION
Abstract Submission

1.

Preliminary Structural Layout and Room allocation with sizes along with
tentative column and beam locations.

2.

A write up indicating the approach towards the project and software to be


used. (Not more than 300 words)
This submission shall be done online by sending the pdf version of the above 2
requirement.

All the above documents should be sent in Hard Copy at the address mentioned
below. Soft copy of the Software files, design calculations and above mentioned
documents should also be sent to us strictly adhering to the deadline.
