(Muneeswarar or God like sage is a very popular village God of Tamil
Nadu.. It is believed that
When Lord Shiva got angry against Daksha ,
his father in law , he first created
Veerabhadra , to destroy Daksha and
eight muneeswaras
to look after the beings of the earth. They are
called Shiva Muni, Mahamuni , Thavamuni , Naathamuni ,Jadamuni , Dharma
Muni , Pandi Muni , Easwara muni
and Vazhamuni.. All of them are called
Muneeswara .Some of them have a very fierce form and some of them
have a
peaceful form. Munseeswara worship is popular in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka ,
Singapore and Malaysia. Animal sacrifice is done in temples with fierce
