Subject: Application for the position of a Graduate Engineer
Dear Human Resource Manager,
I write to apply for the position of graduate engineer. I have enclosed a job application, my
certificate, and resume. The opening offered in your firm is very interesting to me. As I begin my
first steps on my career path in mechanical engineering, I will bring many positive values, skills,
and abilities, which will be of additional value to Shell Company in Qatar. First, I have excellent
writing and speaking skills as we were taught to write various types of documents such as
technical reports and memos, and how to present in English courses and seminars. This will be
important skills, especially when it comes to communicating ideas with my colleagues,
supervisors and seniors. Second, I am a critical thinker. Critical and creative thinking remains a
valuable resource in the field of mechanical engineering because I will use logic to solve workrelated problems and come up with positive solutions or conclusions in my line of duty. Also, I
am good in problem solving as we were taught how to approach a problem and solve it in my
major courses. Therefore, I am able to deal with complex challenges, identify problems, and
develop and amicable solutions to different tasks assigned to me. I am confident that with this set
of communication skills, I will be of additional benefit to Shell Company in Qatar.
I realize an opportunity to work at Shell Corporation will be challenging, but will also provide an
opportunity to bring out the best of my talent as a young engineer. With my practical knowledge
of engineering, technology and science applications, I will apply modern techniques and
principles to do my duties when dealing with machines, repairs and applications related to my
mechanical engineering area of expertise. Having studied public safety, and security by taking
hazard identification communication and risk assessment courses, I will apply this knowledge
when using relevant equipment in the workplace to ensure that the safety of all team players is
maximized. This is necessary because accidents should be prevented to ensure that the company
uses all resources for growth and increase of profits.
I look forward to work in my capacity as new member and team player at Shell Company at
Qatar. I believe that my personality and education will make me a relevant candidate at Shell

SUBJECT: ENGL 210- Major Project 1: Reflection Memo

The purpose of this memorandum is to reflect about the first major project in English 210 Course
for summer 2016.
After submitting the first attempt of the first major project, I met with Dr. Mysti to talk about what
I submitted and she gave a lot of comments about how to make my cover letter and CV better than
what I have submitted. After taking Dr. Mysti comments, I started searching for the appropriate
templates for CVs. There are huge number of different types of CVs, which I believe that are good
to use. Also, I have read chapter 10 in A Guide to Writing as an Engineer book (GWE) to have
more background about writing CVs. After looking and choosing the template that I will be using
to write my CV, I started to think about what to include in my CV. I started thinking about what
things the company that Im applying to looks for in their employees like what kind of experience,
qualifications, and characteristics. So, I have gathered all the ideas and information that I need to
include in my CV. I took around two hours to gather the information and put them in the correct
format of CV. this was the first time to write a CV after I graduated from high school. I hope that
Dr. Mysti will like this version of my CV.
For the cover letter, it took quite more time to write it. Before I begin, I looked at my text cloud to
choose some useful words that would help in supporting my cover letter. Also, I looked at my CV
to help me put some ideas what to focus on while Im writing the cover letter. Writing a cover
letter was a bit hard to do because I believe too hard to describe yourself in a single page and
convince the reader why to continue to check CV. I believe that is never good to have a cover
letter that is too long so the reader dont get bored and not consider my application. I started
writing the cover letter and I felt so proud after I finished it. I really hope it will be better than the
first submission because I want this cover letter to be perfect. This is because I will be using it to
apply for Shell after I graduate in December. And Im willing to write it over and over just be
perfect just to get a job in my dream company.
To sum up, this assignment was useful to me. This is because Im going to graduate soon in
December and Ill be applying to some companies I have in mind and one of these companies is
shell. This assignment assisted me for my future career as a mechanical engineer. This assignment
made me release that I had to contribute more in organizations that is related to mechanical
engineering and engineering fields, so I can include more to my CV as well as my skills.
