WORDS FROM SECRETARY PAULA

Hello Everyone, warmer weather is here. Recently, we attended Tom Parsons
Picnic in Middletown. It was a beautiful day out and the food was very good.
Dancing was excellent according to Gayle A. Twice a week Jacques has a
Basketball Group at Nolan Field in Ansonia. You can play ball or walk on the track.
It is nice to get outside and enjoy the fresh air.
Also see us at WWW.BHCARE.ORG

TOM PARSONS PICNIC BY ARTHUR R.

I had a nice time at the Tom Parsons Picnic in Middletown, CT at CVH. I
loved dancing and we all saw some old friends from Branford, Fellowship,
but Milford did not make it. I enjoyed DJ Talien spinning the tunes. Some
even did Jacques art class. We had hot dogs and hamburgers, macaroni
and potato salad and for dessert we had watermelon, ice cream sundaes
with sprinkles and chocolate. Everyone got along and had a good time.
Kent and Judy did not get to do the talent contest because the sky got
dark. The weather held off most of the day however. I already look

forward to next year.

CHESS IS MY GAME!
My name is Kevin E. and I moved to Ansonia from New Haven. It has been an
enjoyable experience becoming a member of the Valley Social Club. The
atmosphere is extremely warm and the other members welcomed me with
open arms. The staff members are great people who are there to help with
any problems any member may have and also they have an open door policy
for one on one conversation when someone is down and helpless. I really
like coming to the club to help other members with some skills that I have
myself such as: arts, playing chess, and voice training. I would like to

volunteer in these areas if there is an opportunity .The club is great for

everyone Im glad I became a member.

THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Thank you to everyone who supported me as I and other VSC
members walked for the Cure for Cancer at the Griffin Hospital 5K
Walk/Run for Cancer Event. On June 4, 2016 I love that event. What
made it great was Team Valley Social Club raised $100 and that was
our goal to donate. My gratitude for the generous expression of
kindness and support, so stay strong and live long!

IN THE WORDS OF BILL K

For years I had pains in my body. I went to Griffin Hospital and found out
I had a pulled grown muscle. I had hard time walking. I went for a hip
replacement six months ago. Now it starts getting better. I can walk now
without my cane. Wow! I went to Nolan field park with the group at the
Valley Social Club. We walked and played Basketball and I didnt have to
carry my cane around.
What a good feeling!

(Carl R. Antonio B. Bill K. &

John G.)

BEADS WITH MIKE L

Hi, I attended the BHcare Block Party in May. It was a great
success. I was given the opportunity to show some of the
jewelry that I have made in the beads class that I have been
teaching. I was able to sell a couple of pieces at the Art Show.
The beading class has been a big success. The members in the
class were able to produce some beautiful pieces, necklaces
and bracelets. We will have the beading class again soon.
Check with the club staff.

thank Teri G. enough for showing us how to work out!
Summer Trips are being planned but right now we have Big E for September
thanks to Ralph G. at Options. We look forward to this trip every year!

BOOK REVIEW BY JOHN L.

I recently read the book So Excited by Ruth Painter. She writes about her life
growing up in Oakland, California and being part of the singing group with her
sisters, The Pointer Sisters. She also talks about her decent into drug
addiction. In her middle ages, she was able to finally recover and find peace
and happiness in her life. Recover is not impossible if one puts their mind to
it. I was really inspired by this book!
