INTRODUCTORY

Having been, at various times solicited for information as to how to treat this or that disease, until it became a
source of considerable inconvenience to answer all the inquiries for information on the subject. The demands for a
book discussing the different methods of treating the diseases which came to the Weltmer Institute, the author has
undertaken this work, in his humble way, to place before the student and operator his personal experiences and
observations in treating the different diseases hereinafter named, in connection with a few short essays on subjects
deemed beneficial in the way of information in aiding the operator in directing the patient as to what should be done
for the promotion and restoration of health. It will be found of great value to all concerned to give those simple
directions considerable attention, as those points are of inestimable value, even to one in perfect health, and should
be followed throughout the remainder of our entire lives. If followed persistently, they will tend to make a weak
body strong, and a strong body stronger, a healthy body more robust, and, ultimately, will build a strong mind in a
strong body.
Let it be well understood that the different manipulations referred to in this book, are used, primarily and finally,
as vehicles upon which
to convey the necessary suggestion to the subjective mind of the patient, which must, in all
Zac72@
cases, be depended upon to do the healing. If they succeed in reaching this potent element within the patient, the
operator may depend upon satisfactory results. It matters not what vehicle is used, upon which the suggestion can be
conveyed, the all-important question is, how can this power which does the healing, be reached? The operator can
make his own selection, and can devise means of his own, the answer is: use the language best understood by your
patient, and if there is perfect agreement, and a complete understanding, your patient will get well, and the sooner
the patient can get to the point where he can rely entirely upon the force within him, the more rapidly he will

TWO EDGAR CAYCE REMEDIES

by

James R. Harris, Ph.D.

Among the best-known remedies mentioned in the "readings" of Edgar
Cayce (1877-1945), America's most famous clairvoyant, are Castor Oil and
a unique substance called "Glycothymoline." With osteopathy, massage,
enhanced spiritual awareness, and mental changes, the "oil of the castor
plant" and "Glyco" lie at the heart of Cayce's approach to health and healing.
Two luminaries stand out among the many authors who have written on
Cayce and his health remedies. The Edgar Cayce Handbook for Health
Through Drugless Therapy (New York: 1975), by physiotherapist Dr. Harold
J. Reilly and Ruth Hagy Brod, is an encyclopedia of information and insight
about Cayce's work. It also gives us a valuable perspective on the early 20 thcentury world of medical practice that Cayce influenced fundamentally.
The Edgar Cayce Remedies (New York: 1983) by William A. McGarey,
M.D. offers a discursive treatment of Cayce remedies. Dr. McGarey's
epochal Edgar Cayce and the Palma Christi (1967) has reappeared in a
revised edition, The Oil That Heals. It supplies extensive documentation on
the uses of caster oil.
What can we say generally about Edgar Cayce's approach to healing?
Today we routinely acknowledge the interdependence of spiritual, mental,
emotional, and physical factors in the treatment of illness. Fear, depression,
resentment, anger, lack of spiritual faith or focus, environmental toxins, and
poor diet have their debilitating effect, and may combine to bring us down.
Nearly two thirds of the 14,256 readings that Cayce gave are medical in
focus. These and the "life" readings tell us that "mind is the builder," and
that it is one's best friend or worst enemy. There we find physical diagnosis,
and observations about life, society, global events, and the universe.

Such insights occur in the readings that mention Castor Oil and
Glycothymoline. Cayce always specified treatments most effective for the
individual seeking his help, and recognized that a complex of factors
influenced the success of a remedy. If you have, he said, "a castor oil
consciousness," then use castor oil!
Sometimes Cayce cautioned that for castor oil, for instance, to be
effective, one would have to undergo spiritual and psychological
transformation. Many people benefited from the same or similar remedies,
but different people also required treatments unique to their condition,
which might seem identical to others on superficial observation, compared
with the glimpse into the universal the sleeping Cayce provided. Today we
can appreciate this synergistic understanding of disease and illness, health
and healing.
Central in Cayce's "psychic diagnoses" is the importance of balancing,
harmonizing, and relaxing the entire system. Critical to this end are restoring
proper elimination, and quieting inflammation and irritation. We now know
very well that prolonged failure to do any of these may result in heart
disease, cancer, or stroke, and other maladies to which we are subject.
The process of elimination in the human body is carried out at many
levels and points: skin, blood, lungs, liver, kidneys, heart, and bowel. It is
open to interference or debilitation anywhere along the line. Our ability to
"keep it moving through the system" quickly suffers from pervasive stress,
fear, anxiety, ongoing resentment, and anger.
Irritation and inflammation seem to be the inaugural stage of heart
disease and cancer, and take root in us when we harbor destructive
emotions. Tension or confusion about our direction in life, insecurity,
apprehension or depression about our effectiveness in life can all weaken
and poison us.
Many people argue that these debilitating patterns are endemic to
modern life. Bad air quality, neighborhood noise, pollution from
automobiles and industry, caffeine overload, and cell-phone distraction on
the road stem from and aggravate stress. As did Cayce, we counsel people
about their physical condition, and its energetic, mental, and spiritual
dimension.
Castor Oil is called the Palma Christi, or "palm of Christ." Many
cultures through many centuries have credited it with miraculous healing
powers. Dr. McGarey reports that in his clinical practice, no single remedy
has surpassed castor oil in treating so broad a range of disorders, "from

appendicitis to scleroderma...pain syndromes, slipped discs, hyperactivity,

tumors, tinnitus, nausea, etc." (p.46)
Castor oil can be applied locally, in drops on the problem area, taken
orally, or used in packs. Many years ago, I dissolved a large cyst on my
shoulder that a doctor said would have to be surgically removed by
massaging castor oil into it. After a month, the cyst dissolved into loose grit,
and disappeared.
Dr. McGarey cites the case of his own son, whose serious puncture
wound healed in a few days; pain from the wound, he reports, stopped
immediately after a castor oil pack was applied. In my personal experience,
castor oil packs have stopped a bleeding kidney, and helped to cure
ulcerative colitis.
No one really knows how or why castor oil works. It appears to
normalize the lymph flow in the body, thus aiding in waste disposal
(elimination). Particularly when applied in warm packs, castor oil serves to
remove toxins directly from the area of the body treated, and to reduce if not
eliminate inflammation and irritation. Who has swallowed a tablespoon of
castor oil and not noticed its stimulating and soothing effect on the bowel?
Now classic studies document toxic overload as fundamental in the
destruction of human life, physical and otherwise. Toxemia Explained:
There Is Only One Disease and You Have It! by J.H. Tilden, M.D., and Food
Is Your Best Medicine, by Henry G. Bieler, M.D. attest to the importance of
proper diet (which changes depending on time, condition, and place), and
proper elimination - with its multi-level ramifications.
Previously in these pages I have said that the physical body itself is a
hologram, and stands in a holographic relationship with the entire universe.
When we are tense and preoccupied, our bodies, vision, and understanding
constrict and grow myopic. The interconnectedness of everything in us and
in the universe fades from view. Thus traditions of meditation the world
over laud the value of relaxation in enhancing health and awareness.
Especially when applied in warm packs, castor oil has a profoundly
relaxing effect on the entire system. It is common for a person struggling
with insomnia and generalized stress to fall asleep when using a castor oil
pack. Emotionally, when one settles into using a pack, the pack, I would say,
actually feels kind and compassionate. The Palma Christi indeed!
For castor oil packs Cayce recommended:

(1) Two to four thicknesses of preferably white wool flannel, 10" x 14". He
said that white wool flannel has the needed electrical and conductive
properties.
(2) Then we need AA cold-processed, unscented castor oil,
(3) a heating pad,
(4) a large sheet of plastic to cover the area to be treated,
(5) plastic sheeting to protect the bed or floor (an old shower curtain is
great),
(6) two bath towels, or one beach-size towel, and
(7) two large safety pins to complete the apparatus.
The procedure:
(1) Cover the bed or floor with the large piece of plastic. Warm a portion of
the castor oil by placing the bottle in warm water. Then soak the pack in the
oil.
(2) Place the pack on the area of body to be treated. If you want to treat the
descending and sigmoid colons, the pack goes on the lower left abdomen,
between the bottom of the rib cage and the pubic bone. To treat the
ascending colon, cecum, and appendix, place the pack on the corresponding
left side of the body.
An excellent treatment uses two packs, and two heating pads to cover the
whole abdominal area. This has the advantage of covering the entire
transverse colon. It also normalizes the lymphatic system more efficiently.
(3) Wrap the smaller piece of plastic around and over the pack(s), put the
heating pad(s) over the plastic, and turn on Low. (Castor oil packs burn
easily if they get too hot.) Fold the bath or beach towel on which you are
lying around you and secure it with the safety pins. Leave everything in
place for one to two hours.
(4) After removing a castor pack, you will need to wash the oil off the body,
with one teaspoon of baking soda to each pint of warm water. Launder oilstained clothing or cloth in washing soda. Store the pack in a glass jar in the
refrigerator, but warm to room temperature before using it again. Refrigerate
the bottle of castor oil or store it in a cool place. Add more castor oil as the
pack dries out.

(5) Each person in a household should have his or her own pack. Never
launder the pack. With use, it will wear out, and get dirtier, owing to the exit
of toxins from the body, and need to be replaced. I have heard of some packs
becoming black and crusty with toxins.
The manufacturer of Glycothymoline says that its formula has
remained unchanged since Cayce's day. This unique red liquid consists of
water, Glycerin, 4% SD Alcohol 37, Sodium Borate, Sodium Benzoate,
Sodium Bicarbonate, Carmine, Sodium Salicylate, Eucalyptol, Menthol,
Pine Oil, Thymol, Methyl Salicylate. It is rather pleasantly aromatic.
The present-day label describes Glycothymoline as a "Mouthwash and
Gargle," for which we can use it full-strength. However, the original label
for Glycothymoline describes it as a "Treatment for Mucosity." This reflects
more accurately its broad range of applications.
Dr. Reilly's Handbook notes Glycothymoline packs for a host of
problems: "Adhesions, arthritis, bronchitis, cataracts, catarrh (nasal), cold
congestion, cystitis, cysts, epilepsy, eyes, glands, goiter, hay fever, migraine,
herpes simplex, injuries, intestines, kidneys, lesions, paralysis, Parkinson's
disease, pelvic disorders (over 40 cases), ptomaine poisoning, sciatica,
sinusitis, subluxations, throat, tonsillitis, toxemia, tumors." (p. 359)
Germs, we know, thrive in an acid environment. Glycothymoline
alkalinizes the body, raising its pH or hydrogen ion concentration slightly
over 7.0. It reduces inflammation and irritation in the mucus membranes
throughout the body. It has been used for vaginal douches and the last stage
of colonic irrigation, where it tones and cleanses the membranes. While it is
not quite so memorialized, like Castor Oil, Glycothymoline is a valuable
treatment for a wide array of human ills.

Edgar Cayce Sleeping Prophet!

Edgar Cayce made his name in the first half of this century in America as a
psychic healer; perhaps the greatest that the United States ever produced.
During his lifetime he was credited with assisting thousands of people suffering
from all manner of ailments. But there was also a lesser known aspect to
Cayce's psychic revelations. Occasionally while in a self-induced trance, Cayce
would speak of events to come. He predicted the First and Second World War,
the independence of India and the 1929 stockmarket crash. He also predicted,
fifteen years before the event, the creation of the State of Israel. His most
disturbing predictions, however, concern vast geographical upheavals which by
the year 1998 will result in the destruction of New York, the disappearance of
most of Japan, and a cataclysmic change in Northern Europe.
Cayce was born on 18 March 1877, on a farm near Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He

came from an old, conservative family, and as a child developed what became a
lifelong interest in the Bible and the Church. His outlook was undoubtedly
influenced by the Christian revivalist meetings which were popular at the time in
that part of the country. At the age of seven or eight Edgar was sitting in a
wooded clearing reading the Bible when he saw what he described as a bright
vision of a winged figure clothed in white. The vision asked the child what he
wanted in life, and Edgar responded that he wished to help others. The next
day, so the story goes, Edgar was having difficulty learning his spelling
homework. In his mind he heard the voice of his vision telling him to sleep that
he might be helped. The boy did as he was told, laying his head on his spelling
book. A little later he awoke to find he knew the spelling of every word.
This story is perhaps the more incredible because Edgar Cayce was not a good
student. Later in life, he would become renowned for the learned manner in
which he spoke while in a trance. But in his conscious, waking state, he
appeared to his contemporaries as a quiet, humble, self-effacing man,
somewhat unschooled, and deeply religious.
At the age of fifteen, Edgar suffered an accident a school. He was struck on the
back of his neck by a baseball. The boy went into a semi-stupor, and while in
that state, told his parents to prepare a special poultice and apply it to the nape
of his neck, at the base of his brain. To appease their son, his parents did as
they were told, and in the morning, the boy was completely recovered.
Followers of Cayce say this was his very first health reading.
After completing seventh grade, Cayce left school in Hopkinsville to find work
where he could. He worked on a farm, then in a shoestore, and later a
bookstore. By the age of twenty-one, he had become the salesman for a
wholesale stationery company. At about this time, Cayce contracted a throat
problem which developed into aphonia -- a total loss of voice. Doctors he
approached were unable to help him, and Cayce began to regard his problem as
incurable. He resorted to hypnosis, but this too had no useful effect until it
occurred to Cayce to attempt re-entering the kind of hypnotic sleep which had
enabled him to learn his schoolbooks when he was a boy. A hypnotist was found
who was willing to give Cayce the necessary suggestion. Once in a trance, Cayce
reportedly spoke in a clear voice, spelling out precisely what his symptoms
were, and what should be done to cure them. Cayce had succeeded in curing
himself and, in doing so, had launched himself on a lifelong career as a psychic
diagnostician and healer.
It made no difference to Cayce whether his patient was sitting next to him in the
same room or a total stranger living hundreds of miles away. His preparations
for the health reading were always the same. As he himself described it, he
would first loosen his clothing in order to have a perfectly freeflowing circulation.
He would then lie on the couch in his office, with his head to the south, and his
feet to the north. Placing his hands on his forehead between his eyes, he would
wait a few moments until he received what he would call the go signal, a flash of
brilliant white light. Cayce would then move his hands to his solar plexus, and
fall into a trance. His wife would tell him the name and location of the patient,
leaving out any mention of age, sex or physical problem. Cayce might pause a
while before repeating the name and address until he had succeeded in
'locating' the patient and describing his or her condition. He would then
prescribe medication and any other corrective measures, always ending his
reading with the words: "We are through."
His lifelong secretary, Gladys Davis, took down virtually all his readings, and

they are recorded and indexed in the Association for Enlightenment and
Research, established in Virginia in 1932 to study Cayce's work. In all, he gave
14,879 readings, well over half of them for people concerned about their health.
Over a period of forty-three years, he read for more than six thousand people.
In 1933, when he had been exercising his powers for thirty-one years, he
explained that he still understood very little about what he was doing.
"Apparently," he said, "I am one of the few who can lay aside their own
personalities sufficiently to allow their souls to make this attunement to a
universal source of knowledge -- but I say this without any desire to brag about
it. In fact I do not claim to possess anything that other individuals do not
inherently possess. Really and truly, I do not believe there is a single individual
that does not possess this same ability I have. I am certain that all human
beings have much greater powers than they are ever conscious of -- if they
would only be willing to pay the price of detachment from self-interest that it
takes to develop those abilities."
Those who came into contact with Cayce were continually taken aback by the
depth of medical knowledge he displayed during his sleep state. He would
frequently recommend the use of drugs which were not generally known, not
yet on the market, or which had long since passed out of use. Although he had
a conscious knowledge only of the English language, Cayce is also estimated to
have spoken in some two dozen foreign tongues while in a trance. The
unconscious Cayce believed there was a cure for every health problem, including
cancer, in nature, providing that cure could be found in time. He seldom
advocated operations, believing that surgery was much overworked. Cayce took
a holistic approach to health. He believed that a man was composed of body,
mind and spirit, and that all three are one. He talked about consciousness in the
cells of the body, each contributing to the total consciousness of the individual.
Health, he indicated, would flow from a perfect harmony of body and mind. In
accordance with the concept that we are what we eat, think and believe, Cayce
would often urge his patients to improve their mental and spiritual outlook in
order to regain their health.
His recommended treatments for patients included many forms of drugless
healing, such as special baths, oils, heat, light, colonic irrigation, massage, diet
and exercise. The knowledge of anatomy displayed by the sleeping Cayce
flabbergasted more than one physician. The first to use Cayce in his own work
was Doctor Wesley Ketchum of Hopkinsville. Ketchum wrote of Cayce; "His
psychological terms and description of the nervous anatomy would do credit to
any professor of nervous anatomy. There is no faltering in his speech and all his
statements are clear and concise. He handles the most complex jawbreakers
with as much ease as any Boston physician, which to me is quite wonderful in
view of the fact that while in his normal state he is an illiterate man, especially
along the lines of medicine, surgery and pharmacy, of which he knows nothing...
in six important cases which had been diagnosed as strictly surgical he stated
that no such condition existed, and outlined treatment which was followed with
gratifying results in every case."
With Ketchum's persuasion, Cayce set up business in Hopkinsville as a psychic
diagnostician, giving readings twice a day. Before long he was receiving sacks of
mail every day from people anxious to avail themselves of his services.
Cayce's prophetic powers often emerged during the readings he gave. In the
main, his prophecies had little or nothing to do with the original request for a
reading. Sometimes they were to do with financial matters, although Cayce's
readings stressed repeatedly that they should not be used for personal gain.

Indeed Cayce found to his own cost early on in his career that if he did attempt
to make money out of the information he received in his trances, he would
suffer for it physically with headaches and stomach upsets. But other people
were not so affected. Cayce gave advice to businessmen who were worried
about the location of their holdings or the stability of their stocks and bonds. On
occasion, he pointed to the location of oil wells, and correctly prophesied a real
estate boom in the Norfolk-Newport area of the United States. Six months
before the 1929 stockmarket crash he warned people to sell everything they
owned. Many who had followed Cayce before failed to pay heed to his warning
then, and lost all they had.
The sleeping prophet, as Cayce has been nicknamed, predicted the beginning
and end of both the First and Second World Wars, and the lifting of the
Depression in 1933. In the 1920s, he first warned of coming racial strife in the
United States, and in 1939 he predicted the deaths of two presidents in office;
"Ye are to have turmoils -- ye are to have strife between capital and labor. Ye
are to have a division in thy own land, before ye have the second of the
Presidents that next will not live through his office... a mob rule!" President
Franklin D. Roosevelt died in office in April 1945. In November 1963, President
John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, when racial tensions in the
United States were at their height. "Unless there is more give and take,"Cayce
said, "consideration for those who produce, with better division of the excess
profits from labor, there must be greater turmoil in the land."
In October 1935, Cayce spoke of the coming holocaust in Europe. The Austrians
and Germans, he said, and later the Japanese, would take sides. "Thus an
unseen force, gradually growing, must result in an almost direct opposition to
the Nazi, or Aryan theme. This will gradually produce a growth of animosities.
And unless there is interference by what many call supernatural forces and
influences -- which are active in the affairs of nations and peoples -- the whole
world as it were... will be set on fire by militaristic groups and people who are
for power expansion."
Two of Cayce's major predictions concerned the futures of China and the Soviet
Union, the world's great Communist giants. In 1944, he prophesied that China
would one day be "the cradle of Christianity as applied in the lives of men."
Through Russia, he said "comes the hope of the world. Not in respect to what is
sometimes termed Communism or Bolshevism -- no! But freedom -- freedom!
That each man will live for his fellow man. The principle has been born there. It
will take years for it to be crystallized; yet out of Russia comes again the hope
of the world." Russia, he said, would be guided by friendship with the United
States. Its attempt to rule "not only the economic, but the mental and spiritual
life" of its people was doomed to failure.
Cayce also predicted the possibility of a third world war. He spoke of strifes
arising "near the Davis Straits," and "in Libya, and in Egypt, in Ankara, and in
Syria; through the straits around those areas above Australia, in the Indian
Ocean and the Persian Gulf." When asked in June 1943 whether it would be
feasible to work towards an international currency or a stabilization of
international exchange levels when the war had ended, Cayce replied that it
would be a long, long time before this would happen. Indeed, he said, "there
may be another war over just such conditions."
Cayce believed in reincarnation. Each person, in his view, existed in a selfconscious form before birth and would exist again after death. As well as his
health readings, Cayce gave many hundreds of so-called "life" readings, during

which he would describe his subject's past lives. A number of those readings
referred to past incarnations in the legendary lost land of Atlantis. In all, Cayce
referred to Atlantis no fewer than seven hundred times in his readings over a
span of twenty years.
He maintained that Atlantis had a civilization which was technologically superior
to our own, and that its last surviving islands had disappeared in the area of the
Caribbean some ten thousand years ago. His most specifically timed forecast
was that Atlantis would rise again in 1968 or 1969. Needless to say, Cayce was
wrong on that count. [Note: However, it was in that timeframe that the "Bimini
Road" was located in the Atlantic Ocean. Whether this is a "road" or "natural,
geologic erosion" is being hotly debated.]
Cayce said the size of Atlantis was equal to "that of Europe, including Asia in
Europe." He saw visions of a continent which had gone through three major
periods of division; the first two about 15,600 BCE, when the mainland was
divided into islands. The three main islands Cayce named Poseida, Og and
Aryan. He said the Atlanteans had constructed giant laser-like crystals for power
plants, and that these had been responsible for the second destruction of the
land. Cayce blamed the final destruction on the disintegration of the Atlantean
culture through greed and lust. But before the legendary land disappeared
under the waves, Cayce believed there was an exodus of many Atlanteans
through Egypt and further afield. Cayce attributed history's Great Flood in part
to the sinking of the last huge remnants of Atlantis.
But Cayce's most striking predictions -- particularly in view of many other
prophecies relating to the approaching end of the millennium -- concern
dramatic changes in the Earth's surface in the period of 1958 to 1998. The
cause of these he put down to a tilting in the Earth's rotational axis which he
said would begin in 1936.
The first sign of this change in the Earth's core would be the "breaking up of
some conditions" in the South Pacific and "sinking or rising" in the
Mediterranean or Etna area. Cayce forecast that, by the end of the century, New
York, Los Angeles and San Francisco would be destroyed. He said that "the
greater portion of Japan must go into the sea" at this time, and that northern
Europe would be "changed as in the twinkling of an eye." In 1941, Cayce
predicted that lands would appear in the Atlantic and the Pacific in the coming
years, and that "the coastline now of many a land will be the bed of the ocean.
Even many of the battlefields of (1941) will be ocean, will be the sea, the bays,
the lands over which the new order will carry on their trade as with one
another."
"Watch New York, Connecticut and the like. Many portions of the east coast will
be disturbed, as well as many portions of the west coast, as well as the central
portion of the United States. Los Angeles, San Francisco, most of all these will
be among those that will be destroyed before New York, or New York City itself,
will in the main disappear. This will be another generation though, here; while
the southern portions of Carolina, Georgia, these will disappear. This will be
much sooner. The waters of the Great Lakes will empty into the Gulf of Mexico."
Cayce prophesied that the Earth's axis would be shifted by the year 2001,
bringing on reversals in climate, "so that where there has been a frigid or semitropical climate, there will be a more tropical one, and moss and fern will grow."
By this time, he indicated, a new cycle would begin.

Edgar Cayce's last reading on 17 September 1944, was for himself. He was now
receiving thousands of requests for assistance. His own readings had repeatedly
warned him that he should not try to undertake more than two sessions a day.
But many of the letters he received were from mothers worried about their sons
on the battlefields, and Cayce felt he could not refuse them his aid. His last
reading told him that the time had come for him to stop working and rest. On
New Year's Day, 1945, he announced that he would be buried on the fifth of
January. He was right.
Ten years earlier, Cayce had written a brief account of his work. In it, he said,
"The life of a person endowed with such powers is not easy. For more than forty
years now I have been giving readings to those who came seeking help. Thirtyfive years ago the jeers, scorn and laughter were even louder than today. I have
faced the laughter of ignorant crowds, the withering scorn of tabloid headlines,
and the cold smirk of self-satisfied intellectuals. But I have also known the
wordless happiness of little children who have been helped, the gratitude of
fathers and mothers and friends... I believe that the attitude of the scientific
world is gradually changing towards these subjects."

Earth Changes
Edgar Cayce predicted that the Great Lakes would empty into the Gulf of Mexico
in the future and that ancient repositories would be discovered when people
reached the appropriate level of consciousness. The three repositories
mentioned are Egypt, the Bimini area, and the Yucatan.
"The earth will be broken up in the western portion of America. The greater
portion of Japan must go into the sea. The upper portion of Europe will be
changed as in the twinkling of an eye. Land will appear off the east coast of
America. When there is the first breaking up of some conditions in the South
Sea and those as apparent in the sinking or rising of that that's almost opposite
same, or in the Mediterranean, and the Etna area, then we many know it has
begun."
"If there are greater activities in Vesuvius or Pelee, then the southern coast of
California and the areas between Salt Lake and the southern portions of
Nevada, we may expect, within the three months following same, inundation by
the earthquakes. But these are to be more in the Southern than the Northern
Hemisphere."
"There will be the upheavals in the Arctic and in the Antarctic that will make for
the eruption of volcanoes in the torrid areas, and there will be the shifting then
of the poles -- so that where there has been those of a frigid or the semitropical will become the more tropical, and moss and fern will grow.
"As to conditions in the geography of the world, of the country -- changes here
are gradually coming about. No wonder, then, that the entity feels the need, the
necessity for change of central location. For, many portions of the east coast will
be disturbed, as well as many portions of the west coast, as well as the central
portion of the U.S. In the next few years land will appear in the Atlantic as well
as in the Pacific. And what is the coast line now of many a land will be the bed
of the ocean. Even many battle fields of the present will be ocean, will be the
seas, the bays, the lands over which The New World Order will carry on their
trade as one with another.
"Portions of the now east coast of New York, or New York City itself, will in the

main disappear. This will be another generation, though, here; while the
southern portions of Carolina, Georgia -- these will disappear. This will be much
sooner. The waters of the lakes will empty into the Gulf, rather than the
waterway over which such discussions have been recently made. It would be
well if the waterway were prepared, but not for that purpose for which it is at
present being considered. Then the area where the entity is now located
(Virginia Beach) will be among the safety lands, as will be portions of what is
now Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, and much of the southern portion of Canada and
the eastern portion of Canada; while the western land -- much of that is to be
disturbed as, of course much in other lands."
"Strifes will arise through the period. Watch for them near the Davis Strait in the
attempts there for the keeping of the life line to land open. Watch for them in
Libya and in Egypt, in Ankara and in Syria, through the straits about those areas
above Australia, in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf."
It is also understood, comprehended by some that a new order of conditions is
to arise; there must be a purging in high places as well as low; and that there
must be the greater consideration of the individual, so that each soul being his
brother's keeper. Then certain circumstances will come about in the political, the
economic, and whole relationships to which a leveling will occur or a greater
comprehension of the need for it.
"... for changes are coming, this may be sure -- an evolution or revolution in the
ideas of religious thought. The basis of it for the world will eventually come out
of Russia. Not communism, no! But rather that which is the basis of the same as
the Christ taught -- his kind of communism."

On the Sphinx
"It would be well if this entity were to seek either of the three phases of the
ways and means in which those records of the activities of individuals were
preserved -- the one in the Atlantean land, that sank, which will rise and is
rising again; another in the place of the records that leadeth from the Sphinx to
the hall of records, in the Egyptian land; and another in the Aryan or Yucatan
land, where the temple there is overshadowing same. (2012-1; Sep 25, 1939)"
"...the entity joined with those who were active in putting the records in forms
that were partially of the old characters of the ancient or early Egyptian, and
part in the newer form of the Atlanteans. These may be found, especially when
the house or tomb of records is opened, in a few years from now. (2537-1; Jul
17, 1941) ...[the entity] was among the first to set the records that are yet to
be discovered or yet to be had of those activities in the Atlantean land, and for
the preservation of data that is yet to be found from the chambers of the way
between the Sphinx and the pyramid of records. (3575-2; Jan 20, 1944)"
"Q: Give in detail what the sealed room contains.
A: A record of Atlantis from the beginning of those periods when the Spirit took
form, or began the encasements in that land; and the developments of the
peoples throughout their sojourn; together with the record of the first
destruction, and the changes that took place in the land; with the record of the
sojournings of the peoples and their varied activities in other lands, and a record
of the meetings of all the nations or lands, for the activities in the destruction of
Atlantis; and the building of the pyramid of initiation, together with whom,

what, and where the opening of the records would come, that are as copies
from the sunken Atlantis. For with the change, it [Atlantis] must rise again. In
position, this lies -- as the sun rises from the waters -- as the line of the
shadows (or light) falls between the paws of the Sphinx; that was set later as
the sentinel or guard and which may not be entered from the connecting
chambers from the Sphinx's right paw until the time has been fulfilled when the
changes must be active in this sphere of man's experience. Then [it lies]
between the Sphinx and the river. (378-16; Oct 29, 1933)"
In several of his readings, Cayce stated that the survivors of the lost continent
of Atlantis had brought with them records relating to their earliest history.
These, he said, were carefully buried in a secret chamber somewhere near to
the Great Sphinx, which stands guard like a sentinel over the Pyramids of Giza.
A second set of these records was taken, he said, by other survivors of the
disaster to be buried somewhere in the Yucatan area of Mexico. He also said
that a third set of records still resides in the heart of Atlantis itself.

A Summary of Edgar Cayces Readings

Edgar Cayce

Edgar Cayces View of Health and Healing

by Sidney D. Kirkpatrick and Nancy Thurlbeck

When Edgar Cayce, fully awake, considered human anatomy, it was with the eye of a professional
portrait photographer. In trance, however, when "the Source" spoke through the sleeping Cayce,
he was the "psychic diagnostician," reporting on temperature, blood pressure, and other physical
and anatomical details of a patients body. Cayce could describe a patients condition in such a
cool, calm, and detached manner that observers were left with the impression that he was a
physician describing to fellow colleagues an examination he was in the process of conducting,
except for the fact that Cayces patients didnt have to be in the same room or even in the same
country as Cayce. He appeared to be able to see right into his patients body, to examine each
organ, blood vessel, and artery with microscopic precision, and then recommend treatments to
restore or enhance a patients health. Many of Cayces recommended treatments, once dismissed
as the fanciful products of an overactive imagination, are now considered state-of-the-art medical
treatment and have earned Cayce the distinction of being called the father of holistic medicine.
In the chaotic early years of Edgar Cayces career as a psychic diagnostician (1911-1927) before
his trance readings were properly recorded and indexed, and when the patients detailed medical
records were not shared with Edgar it was nearly impossible to view his contribution to medicine
in a broader context. Unless a patient experienced immediate recovery Edgar and those around
him had limited knowledge of the outcome of the treatments he recommended while in trance.

Little or no effort was made to trace a patient's progress or to determine the effectiveness of the
treatments recommended. Only files containing letters of thanks offered insights.
This changed in 1928 when the Edgar Cayce hospital was founded in Virginia Beach, and Cayce
would [g]o on to give approximately 7,000 more medical readings before his death in 1945. With a
dedicated conductor to put Cayce into trance, a stenographer to supervise and record trance
sessions, and a team of board-certified physicians to study, chart, and interpret a patient's
progress over a long period of time, it was possible to begin seeing the scope of Cayce's
contributions and to gain a better understanding of the general principles of health he
communicated in the readings. As medical scholars would point out a generation later, together,
Cayce's trance readings provided a primer on the emerging field of holistic medicine.
Although the information Cayce imparted was often in keeping with the practice of both
homeopathic and allopathic medicine at the time, it became clear by the late 1920s that Cayce
also drew information from the medical knowledge of ancient cultures, especially those in Egypt
and Greece. And a fair percentage of Cayce's ideas were entirely new at the time the readings
were givensometimes given on the very same day the treatment or product was becoming
available to the public. Some of Cayce's medical insights have since been confirmed by modern
medical science, while others are yet to be validated.
The fact that many of the treatments Cayce recommended were in keeping with the standard
medical approach to illness made it easier for doctors to follow his advice. As a general rule, these
treatments varied only in the combination of medicine and therapies, but often involved more hard
work on the part of both the doctor and patient than has become the norm in modern medicine.
Invariably, however, the hard work paid off. In many instances, Cayce was clearly ahead of his
time. For instance, he once recommended that an infant with digestive problems be kept on a strict
diet of bananas which in the 1920s was generally considered to be poisonous to infants. Now, the
all-banana diet is standard medical treatment for celiac children.
The Causes of Illness According to Cayce
The greatest surprise of Cayce's health readings were the apparent causes given for various
illnesses. The Source, speaking through the sleeping Cayce, cited reasons for illness that ranged
from what now might be considered old-fashioned, like getting one's feet wet or exposure to the
elements, to more unusual reasons, like washing one's food down with a drink without
chewing it properly. The Source veered furthest from accepted medical philosophy when he
offered more cosmic-related reasonssuch as the karmic repercussions of choices made in a
previous life. Perhaps just as unusual in his time, Cayce frequently connected illness to the
mental and emotional states of the patients. In one reading he was quoted as saying, "Thus
you can ...[suffer] a bad cold from getting mad...[or] from...[cursing out] someone."
For some physical disturbances Cayce also described primary causes which then, as now, remain
unrecognized by the medical profession. These included conditions such as psoriasis which Cayce
said was caused by the thinning of intestinal walls and the resulting leakage of toxins back into the
system. The body then attempts to throw off those toxins through another system of elimination
the skin; migraine headaches, which he said were frequently the result of congestion in the colon;
and morning sickness in pregnant women, which he attributed to the lack of certain minerals which
were being taken from the mother to build the baby's body. He said that the causes and symptoms

were similar to those of a teething infant. And the treatment was the same for both. He also said
that spinal injuries could cause problems as diverse as asthma, stuttering and even violent
behavior.
Cayces Four Basic Elements of Good Health
When studying the readings, doctors working with Cayce were forced to expand their
understanding of the role that four basic processes played in governing the health of the body.
These four processes, which Cayce said affected our cells ability to reproduce and function
properly were:

Assimilation

Elimination

Circulation and

Relaxation.

ASSIMILATION
Assimilation, which appeared in almost one quarter of the medical readings, referred not only to
the body's intake of nutrients, but also to process of digestion. Cayce frequently warned against
eating when upset, angry or distressed, saying that due to the resulting physiological
changes in the body, food would remain undigested and become toxic to the system. Cayce
also spoke of avoiding certain food combinations, specifically those foods requiring
different acids to be digested. If such foods were eaten together, Cayce said, one type
would be digested while the other would sit and ferment in the stomach thus becoming
toxic

to

the

body.

Compare Edgar Cayces General Nutrition & Diet Recommendations. For details re recommended proper food
combining, see Food Combining Table according to Dr. Hay & Dr. Walb.

Just as mass-produced foods were beginning to appear, and decades before the whole-food
movement became popular, Cayce was issuing warnings. He repeatedly stated that refined
foods, sugars, red meat, and fried food were generally harmful to the body. "What we think and
what we eatcombined together," Cayce said, "make what we are, physically and
mentally."
Cayce did not just warn patients away from certain foods, he encouraged the consumption of
others. For instance, in keeping with what is now known about the importance of ingesting active
food enzymes, he recommended eating one meal per day of primarily raw vegetables. He also
consistently instructed patients to eat whole rather than refined grains, saying that refined products
not only lacked nutrients the body needs, but that such foods, with all enzymes and other elements
removed, are actually toxic to the human body. And although he didn't use the contemporary term
phyto-chemicalsthe nutritional element related to the color of foodshe often recommended
foods of a certain color for particular ailments.

Cayce also spoke of the acid-alkaline balance in the body, which he said was affected by the
foods we eatan area of nutrition that was virtually unheard of in the 1920s, and has only recently
become popular. Cayce's general diet guidelines recommended the consumption of twenty percent
acid producing foods, such as meats, starches and sugars, and eighty percent alkaline producing
foods, such as vegetables, fruits and dairy products. To a forty-eight-year-old woman, Cayce said:
"The less physical exercise...the greater should be the alkaline reacting food taken. Energies or
activities may burn acids, but those who lead the sedentary life can't go on sweets or too much
starches."
Compare Edgar Cayces General Nutrition & Diet Recommendations and the Cayce Acid-Forming & AlkalineForming Food Table.

He also recommended that vegetables from below the ground, such as carrots, beets, and
potatoes, should constitute only twenty-five percent of one's diet of vegetables, while above the
ground vegetables, such as lettuce, squash, and tomatoes, should account for the other seventyfive percent. He recommended that only ten percent of our diet be fats, another ten percent
proteins, five percent refined starches and sugars and the other seventy-five percent complex
carbohydrates such as vegetables, fruits and grains.
Long after Cayce's death, many of the seemingly radical guidelines he offered in the 1930s would
be seen as having merit. But some of Cayce's recommendations still seem strange to this day. For
instance, he stated in several readings that while tomatoes contain more nutrients than any other
single food, when not vine-ripened, they are toxic to the human body. He also stated
that carbonated drinks were to be almost always avoided, not just because of the sugar or
artificial sweetener in them, but because they interfered with the interaction between the
liver and the kidney. Other gems offered by Cayce included such statements as: apples should
never be eaten raw, only baked or cooked, unless used for fasting purposes; only the peel of the
white potato was of any real nutritional value; and coffee and tea become toxic when combined
with milk or cream.
ELIMINATION
Poor elimination was cited as being at the root of a great number of illnesses, and references to it
appeared in over half of Cayce's medical readings. Apart from taking in nourishment, human cells
must also eliminate waste products and toxins to remain healthy, and according to the Cayce
readings, "[if] the assimilations and eliminations...[were] kept nearer normal in the human family,
the days might be extended to whatever period as was so desired, for the system is...able to bring
resuscitation so long as the eliminations do not hinder."
Cayce suggested many different aids to elimination. One of the simplest was to drink a cup of hot
water with a squeeze of lemon juice each morning upon rising and before eating , which
apparently helped the body eliminate the toxins thrown off during sleep. Similarly, he
recommended doing deep breathing exercises each morning to eliminate toxins pooled in the
lungs from the shallow breathing characteristic of sleep. Dietary measures were also
recommended to improve bowel activity, which included eating leafy vegetables and stewed fruit
such as figs and raisins. He also suggested drinking as much as six to eight glasses of water a
day.
Compare Dehydration & Cancer.

In extreme cases of toxemia, Cayce recommended enemas and colonics, adding that these could
also be used by healthy people. "For everyoneeverybodyshould take an internal bath
occasionally as well as an external one." Cayce also frequently recommended three-day apple
fasts, and occasionally four-day grape fasts or five-day orange fasts for more extreme cases of
toxemia. While the apple fast in particular was intended to have a cleansing effect on the
intestines, it would also, according to Cayce, "cleanse the activities of the liver, the kidneys and the
whole

system."

CIRCULATION
The third aspect of sustaining good health, according to Cayce, was circulation. "The
circulation...is the main attribute to the physical body, or that which keeps life in the whole system,"
he often said in trance, and references to circulation turned up in approximately sixty-percent of
the readings. Highlighting the role that circulation plays in assimilation and elimination, he pointed
out that "there is no condition existent in a body that the reflection of same may not be traced to
the blood supply, for not only does the blood stream carry the rebuilding forces to the body, it also
takes the used forces and eliminates same through their proper channels." In the same reading,
Cayce made a startling prophetic remark: "The day may yet arrive when one may take a drop of
blood

and

diagnose

the

condition

of

any

physical

body."

Compare Darkfield High Resolution Blood Analysis.

Cayce made reference not only to arterial circulation, but lymphatic circulation, which he
considered to be just as important. The Source referred to the fluid in the lymphatic system as
"white blood" or "lymph blood," and pointed out that unlike the arterial system which has both the
heart and the muscle-lined wall of the arteries to move the blood along, the lymph system has no
pump of its own, and it relies on other methods to move waste matter out of the body. One method
Cayce recommended was massage. Although it was considered by many to be nothing more than
idle pampering, Cayce saw massage as curative, particularly for the inactive.
The most natural way to sustain good overall circulation, both of the lymph and the blood, Cayce
said, was exercise. As he pointed out in a reading for a forty-six-year-old woman, " Exercise is
wonderful, and necessaryand little or few take as much as is needed, in a systematic manner."
To another patient he said exercise "is not something merely to be gotten through or gotten rid of."
Daily stretches, head and neck rolls and walks, preferably of twenty minutes, were all
recommendations

Cayce

gave.

Compare Detoxification: Activate Your Lymphatic System.

RELAXATION
The fourth process Cayce considered vital to good health was what he referred to as relaxation. In
trance, Cayce stated that "the activity of the mental or soul force of the body may control entirely
the whole physical [body] through the action of the balance in the sympathetic [nervous] system,
for the sympathetic nerve system is to the soul and spirit forces as the cerebrospinal is to the
physical forces of an entity." The nervous system was the vehicle through which Cayce's " mind as
the builder" could most directly influence the body.

Cayce's physical readings divided the nervous system into three parts: the cerebrospinal system,
made up of the brain and the spinal cord; the sensory nervous system, which included the sense
organs; and the sympathetic nervous system, or the autonomic nervous system, over which a
person has no conscious control. According to the readings, the sympathetic nervous system could
be considered "the brain manifestation of soul forces in the body." Cayce also suggested that
within this system, habitsboth good and badare formed and retained. These habits govern the
links between our mind and our body. And apparently anyone could "correct habits by forming
others! That [goes for] everybody!"
Although modern-day medical practitioners often look upon the power of "suggestion" as pseudo
science, Cayce often recommended that positive suggestion be a part of a patient's daily
treatment. Cayce said that emotions, both positive and negative, moved as electric energies
through the nervous system, affecting the entire organism. His message here was that the
nervous system acts as a conduit and carries impulses and instructions to every cell in the body.
Positive and negative thoughts could therefore physically alter each cell's functioning. Again,
Cayce was far ahead of his time in pinpointing the role that stress played in one's overall health. In
one reading Caycein trancestated that "worry and fear [are] the greatest foes to [a] normal
healthy physical body ." For another patient he said, "For thoughts are things! And they have
their effect upon individuals...just as physical as sticking a pin in the hand!"

This same theme was expanded upon in a reading Cayce did for a forty-four-year-old physician.
"While [it is] true [that] medicines, compounds, mechanical appliances, radiation, all have their
place and are of the creative forces, yet the...[ability] of arousing hope, of creating confidence, of
bringing the awareness of faith into the consciousness of an individual is very necessary," the
Source said. "Only when any portion of the anatomical structure of a human being is put in accord
with the divine influences...may real healing come."
Cayce also said that a preoccupation with a particular illness could result in the manifestation of
that illness in one's own life. To maintain health, Cayce suggested that "quiet, meditation, for a half
to a minute, will bring strength...[if the body will] see physically this flowing out to quiet self,
whether walking, standing still, or resting." And Cayce urged patients to find balance in their lives:
"Budget the time so that there may be a regular period for sustaining the physical being and also
for sustaining the mental and spiritual being. As it is necessary...for recreation and rest for the
physical, so it is necessary that there be recreation and rest for the mental."
ALL CURATIVE FORCES MUST BE FROM WITHIN
In contrast to the predominant view that doctors healed exclusively through medicine or surgery,
Cayce's trance view was that "unless it be for a removal of conditions that have become acute by
neglect or other causes of the same nature, all curative forces must be from within self and are of
the whole of a physical being: for the human anatomical body is as the working of a perfect whole."
In this sense, Cayce viewed the human body as a miracle of creation in its ability to heal
itself. His view became more apparent in a statement he made to a group of entrepreneurial
doctors seeking information on health products they wanted to produce. In this reading requested
on their behalf by Cayces son Hugh Lynn and nephew, Tommy House, Cayce said, "There is no
greater factory in the universe than that in a human body in its natural, normal reacting state. For

there are those machines or glands within the body capable of producing, from the very air or
water and the food values taken into the body...any element at all that is known in the material
world!" Cayce would also say, more than once, that "every cell of the body is a universe in itself."
Compare The Body Is Self-Healing: Nature Heals/Natural Hygiene.

In other readings, Cayce took the generative properties of the body one step further, to suggest
that if a person were to maintain the proper attitude and to keep their organs properly coordinated
with one another, they could live as long as they wanted:"For, as may be told by any
pathologist, there is no known reason why any individual entity should not live as long as it
desires. And there is no death, save in thy consciousness. Because all others have died, ye
expect to, and you do!
The ability of a human being to prolong their life, according to Cayce, depends on the
proper functioning of the endocrine system. The glands, Cayce said, were "that which
enables the body, physically throughout to reproduce itself." The glandular system also,
according to Cayce, serves as the physical point of contact between a person's nervous
system and his or her "spiritual bodies."The readings identified seven glands which are also
referred to as seven centers, or "chakras," which act as both growth centers for the physical body
and major spiritual centers. These seven include the gonadsalso referred to as the cells of
Leydig or Leydenthe adrenals, the thymus, the thyroid, the pineal, and the pituitary. In the 1930s,
when Cayce did readings on these glands, their purposes were being hotly contested, and to a
certain degree, none would be completely understood by the medical profession until a halfcentury

later.

As with the nervous system, Cayce described how a person's emotions affect the glands' activities:
"For as has been indicated in some manners, some activities, there is an activity within the system
produced by anger, fear, mirth, joy, or any of those active forces, that produces through the
glandular secretion those activities that flow into the whole of the system." These emotion-caused
secretions could wreak havoc with one's health. "Anger causes poisons to be secreted from
the glands," he said. "Joy has the opposite effect." On another occasion he noted: "No one can
hate his neighbor and not have stomach or liver trouble. No one can be jealous and allow
the anger of same and not have upset digestion or heart disorder."Perhaps the most radical
assertion he made along these lines was to say that all disease was caused by sin, most notably
the sin of fear, for that represented a lack of faith. " Fear is the root of most of the ills of
mankind,"

Cayce would also state, while in trance, that while the spiritual body is not actually contained in the
physical body, "there is the pattern in the material or physical plane of every condition, as exists in
the cosmic or spiritual plane." It was for this reason, perhaps, that Cayce did not view illness as
strictly caused by physical problems, or did he see its cure only in the physical realm. Belief and
anticipation played an important part in the healing process, too. He reminded patients that
"..what ye ask in His name, believing, and thyself living, [mind will build]." He also said that "a
good laugh, an arousing even to hilariousness, is good for the body, physically, mentally,
and gives the opportunity for greater mental and spiritual awakening." In another reading he

said: "one is ever just as young as the heart and the purpose. Keep sweet. Keep friendly. Keep
loving,

if

ye

would

keep

young."

According to Cayce, the attitude that truly heals is the "Christ Consciousness...the only
source of healing for a physical or mental body. " As the source once put it: "There are in
truth, no incurable conditions...that which exists is and was produced from a first cause,
and may be met or counteracted, or changed." In another reading Cayce said that "all strength,
all healing of every nature is the changing of the vibrations from within, the attuning of the divine
within the living tissue of a body to Creative Energies. This alone is healing. Whether it is
accomplished by the use of drugs, the knife or...[anything else], it is the attuning of the atomic

As much as Cayce advised his patients not to ignore spiritual matters when dealing with health
challenges, he also warned them not to ignore their physical lives either. In one physical diagnosis,
the Source said: "The body is made up of the physical, the mental, the spiritual," and that "each
have their laws, which work one with another, and the whole is physical man, yet do not treat
physical conditions wholly through spiritual or mental laws and expect same to respond as one."
This is a concept that can be applied to all aspects of lifeeven non-medical. We must pray and
think positive thoughts, but we must address concerns and issues in the physical realm.
Of all the physical treatments, Cayce regarded osteopathic therapy as the closest to the healing
process of the human body. "There is no form of physical mechano-therapy so near in accord with
nature's measures as correctly given osteopathic adjustments," he said. Osteopaths, designated
as "D.O.'s," whose degrees are generally considered equivalent to those of medical doctors,
emphasize the body's natural ability to heal, and work through manipulation of the muscularskeletal system. As Cayce said, "The science of osteopathy is not merely the punching in a certain
segment or the cracking of the bones, but it is the keeping of a balanceby the touchbetween
the sympathetic and cerebrospinal system. That is real osteopathy!"
In a particularly moving reading on May 24, 1934, in which he summarized much of his philosophy,
Cayce discussed the beauty of being "one with God," in a spiritual as well as a physical sense.
"When the earth was brought into existence or into time and space, all the elements that are
without man may be found in the living human body," Cayce said. "Hence these in coordination, as
we see in nature, as we see in the air, as we see in the fire or in the earth, makes the soul, body
and mind one coordinating factor with the universal creative energy we call God."
Just as Cayce talked about being one with God, he suggested that a body's cells must act in
concert to sustain good health. In thousands of medical readings, Cayce offered physical
treatments directed toward improving "coordination." Likewise, the theme of "vibration" was quite
evident in his commentary. As Cayce had said in the physics readings for the Stansell motor: "Life
in its manifestations is vibration, electricity is vibration." In this sense, Cayce suggested that the
same principles of "harmonics" governing the release of energy were at play in the human body.
All of Cayce's remedies had the intention of correcting the vibrations of the various cells of the
body, whether through medicine, osteopathic manipulation of the spine, hydrotherapy, the
application of heat and cold, electrical magnetic therapy, or the simple laying on of hands.

One of the most interesting concepts regarding good health and longevity put forth by Cayce was
that "[there is no need] for a better body [unless it is] to serve thy fellow man the better."
Similarly, when asked by a woman how many more years of life she should expect, Cayce
responded: "How many do you wish [or need]? Let the prayer be ever: 'Father, so long as I may be
useful as a manifestation of Thy love in the earth, and as I may be gentle and kind and true and
pure to my fellow man, keep Thou, O Lord, me.'"
When asked "Who will aid me most in my work and daily life?" Cayce simply replied, "God." In
another reading, the Source said: "The church is in thyself. For, thy body is the temple of the living
God." And indeed, in addition to all of the advice he would give about diet, habits, physical
treatments, mental states, attitudinal adjustments and exercise in keeping the body healthy, there
was always one underlying themea willingness to call on God's help through prayer, and have
faith that help will come. On this topic, Cayce would give perhaps his most inspiring and easily
understood advice:
"Never worry as long as you can pray. When you can't pray, you'd better begin to worry! For then
you [really] have something to worry about!"
About the author
Sidney D. Kirkpatrick is the author of Edgar Cayce: An American Prophet - a new Cayce biography unprecedented in
its scope and depth. From his website edgarcaycebooks.com:
Edgar Cayce--The Father of the Holistic Health Movement
In a trance so deep that he was twice declared clinically dead, Cayce prescribed treatments combining innovative
technology with holistic medicine that resulted in full cures more than 90 percent of the time.
When New York Times best-selling author and investigative journalist Sidney D. Kirkpatrick was first introduced by
Nancy Thurlbeck to Edgar Cayce and his phenomenal psychic abilities, Kirkpatrick thought Cayce was a fraud.
Then Kirkpatrick and Thurlbeck paid a visit to the Association of Research and Enlightenment in Virginia Beach. It
was Kirkpatrick's intention to prove that Edgar Cayce did not do what he was claimed to do. Thurlbeck gave him just
enough rope to hang himself. Now, the rest is history--as they say.
Kirkpatrick was bowled over by the huge quantities of evidence to support the truth of Cayces abilities. The question
became--not did Cayce do it--but how and why did he do what he did. Kirkpatrick learned first hand what a bizarre
and amazing life that Edgar Cayce and his family and loved ones led. Now he, with the help of Nancy Thurlbeck, tells
this incredible story in a book that has been described as superb and the most enlightening book ever written about
the seer.
Kirkpatricks ... Edgar Cayce, An American Prophet, is the definitive biography of Edgar Cayce, who is best known as
the sleeping prophet. The research and writing of this book has taken well over 5 years. No other author has had
such complete access to Edgar Cayce's voluminous correspondence, traveled as widely to research the subject, or
has uncovered such a wealth of sensational new material on the man generally regarded as "the father" of the new
age movement. During Cayce's forty-year career as a psychic he advised housewives, corporate executives and
hundreds of others - among them Thomas Edison, Harry Houdini, George Gershwin, and Woodrow Wilson. The
ground-breaking insights Cayce provided on natural medicines, reincarnation, prophecies, dreams, and the healing
power of the human body has spawned entire industries, and became an inspiration to such people as Albert
Einstein, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, and John Lennon.
