Minutes for the monthly meeting on 21 June 2016


Place of meeting: Ecclesbourne Sixth Form Centre Duffield
Chaired by: Gail Nolan
Speaker: Liz Keeley gave an excellent local view of Boarding
Schools for Girls in Victorian Derbyshire.

Approval of minutes
The minutes for the AGM and meeting held on 17 May 2016 were approved without
amendment.

Business

Denman Raffle was drawn. The winner was Carole H who has won a 300 bursary for
a course at Denman College. This is DEWIs way of supporting the Denman appeal.

The Programme for 2017 is being drawn up. Please make 3 votes for your choice of
speakers from options offered.
Next Christmas Charity to support - choices and voting early 2017
Christmas meeting were planning a social session- tell us your brilliant ideas
Applications are invited from all members for the DEWI bursary for any educational
course or activity which meets the objectives of the WI. Application forms and further
information from Jan via Duffield.evening.wi@gmail.com Deadline for applications
is end of June.

Subgroups

Viv Pub Walk next Tuesday 28 June. Leaving from Bridge Inn at 19h30, calling at
Fox and Hounds and Hollybush. 3 and miles. There will be hills
Viv Ghost at Mark Eaton Park outdoor theatre 11/ticket Fri 12 August
Cookery Helen next meeting November, details to follow
Dining Out Karen - Champagne Breakfast at Morley Hayes on Saturday 1 October 10 deposit to book your place please
Charity Cream Tea on 17 August 3pm to 6pm at Karens at Springwood House. 5 at
next meeting to book your place and enable catering
Walking Group Kath will email details, it will be fairly local
Craft Catherine H 2nd Wednesday 13 July at Weston Centre 7-9pm; needle felting
with a visiting demonstrator
Gardening - 3 to Gail for Meynell Langley trials garden on Monday 4 July
Choir at Meadows School this week only (voting at St Ms) normal time

Points of information

Carnival Julia/Kate - DEWI are hosting Art and Craft Show, entry forms available
tonight and on website. Volunteer to support on the day in the beer tent and enter the
competitions
Karma Nirvana tickets 5 now on sale, friends and family welcome. 4 October
Duffield Arts Festival in September all 3 Duffield WIs to provide tea and cakes in
Duffield Meadows School Hall. Please volunteer for a stint in the kitchen or make
cakes so DEWI can support the local community and possibly generate some profits
from refreshment sales. And help make a scarecrow for the trail on the Theme: Our
Favourite Book
Dining Out Christmas Meal - let Linda know ideas for venues? Croots again?
THIS FRIDAY 24th 7.70pm Please support Duffield Afternoon WI who are holding
the Event in the Tent in the small marquee on Eyes Meadow. Tickets 7.50 available
on the door on the night to include Pimms and nibbles. Bring your own food and
bottles. Dress: Posh Frocks!
Wine Tasting with Jan!! Friday 23 September 7.30pm at St Alkmunds Church Hall.
Tickets 15, includes 8 different wines to taste and no-fuss food. Final numbers by
the end of July please so WT subcommittee can plan the catering. Family and friends
welcome.
