Terrorism: Israel
Background:
Considered by the fact that terrorism is a worldwide threat to the international
community that cant be denied. These terrorists dont only rise up with violent
attacks but also with the intent purpose. Terrorism used to described social injustice,
religious belief, and socio-economic factor. First, social injustice makes them feel
entitled: certain rights, land, or property. People, which acclaim a possession, will rise
up to maintain their rights. Second, different religions lead to different believes and
perspectives. There arent only clashes between different religions, but also in the
same religions in different sect will also lead to conflicts. Third, the deprivation drives
people to rise in terrorists. (Education Scotland, n.d.)
Throughout history, there is a horrific affair that has been recorded. One of
them is in year 2001, the 9/11 attacks: 2,933 fatalities and 8,900 injuries. It was led by
Osama bin Laden. The extremist organization hijacked four airplanes and crashed into
three different skyscrapers (Lee Standberry, July 2012). Moreover, 9/11 challenged
many other terrorists to create crimes around the world. Rate of terrorism increased as
well as sacrificed many innocent lives. Consequently, the issue makes terrorism
become one of important problems in the world to be concerned. According from
2008 FBI statistics, there were 5,528 deaths and 4,594 terrorist attacks (Natalie
Petkovic, 10 February 2011). Terrorism occurred in certain country, but the progress
has scattered through other regions, which UN has to deal with it immediately.
UNGA adopted resolution 57/83 to prohibit terrorists weapons possession and
delivery. In 2004, UNSC took an action to forbid the development, using, and
delivery nuclear as weapons by adopted resolution 1540. Also, UNGA established
International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism in
Palmy 1109
September 2005. The results of the action are not quite well to be impressed;
terrorism still continues to occur such as in multiple sites in Mumbai (November
2008), the Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in Jakarta (July 2009), and the Moscow
Metro (March 2010)(United Nation, n.d.).
Suggested Resolution:
Palmy 1109
There are many ways of solution that can solve the problem of Israel. Allies,
which won the WWII, agreed with Israel to bring back their homeland in, at first,
Palestines territory. The possible ways to stop terrorists are making every
neighborhood country of Israel accepted as legitimate country in the Middle East
(Office of Historian, n.d.).
Another way is to divide Israel- one for Israeli, and one for Palestinian- to end
the war and create peace between different religion and belief. So, UNGA adopted the
Resolution 181 or as known as partition resolution. This solution can satisfied a
certain group: Palestinian and peaceful Israeli. The problem might occur between
government and extreme Israeli that might be a civil war later (ProCon.org, February
2016).
