Overview

Through singing, inquiry, painting (a palm tree), and role play, children will
learn how to avoid smoking and the importance of helping each other.

Objective

Children will know the people who make them strong and will have tools to
resist smoking.

Materials

Name tags/Bouncy Ball/Tempera paint/brushes/large piece of cardboard or


white paper/Percussion Instruments/Printout of Motto/Paper with
rules/embellishments/glue/images of cigarette ads

Greet children with a handshake as they enter


Direct them to find their name tag and let new children create one
with markers only & emoji stickers
Circle up and introduce yourself again for new children and bounce
a small ball to another student to catch and say their name. Then that
child bounces to someone else and so on.

Ask for volunteers to do a role play


Ask an assistant to play the tempter
Ask a child to respond to the temptation

PAINTING A PALM TREE

Roll out large and long piece of paper or large piece of cardboard
Set up for painting paint palette. Mixing palette, rag, water cup,
brush, paint.
Show the children how to paint a clear blue sky with clouds
Show them how they can make the trunk of a tree with many
different shades of brown and the leaves with different shades of
green.
Tell the children that they will all work together to make a strong and
beautiful palm tree. Emphasize that mixed styles are fine and that
everyone can contribute.
If there is time, allow students to add embellishments to artwork.

BREATHING EXERCISE to relax

Hand out a pinwheel to each child
Instruct the children to breathe in deeply and hold it for 2 seconds
(signal this by holding a finger up for each second) then have them
breathe out slowly and completely making the pinwheel spin as long
as they can.
