Editing Protocol

1) Form an editing committee containing a chief editor, sub-editor, and


writer. The sub-editor and writer should not be from the same writing group.
(When you are not involved in a sub-editing committee you should be making
revisions).
a) Chief editor models critique, suggests revisions, and
leads discussion.
b) Sub-editor acts as time-keeper, reads story, listens to
critique, and contributes to discussion.
c) Writer listens to critique, responds to feedback, and
makes revisions.
2) Writer summarizes their story in less than a minute.

Reread story suggesting revisions and adding comments

to writers Google doc, sharing thought process with sub-editing

Sentence structure and clarity.


Plot development.
Character development and consistency.
Conflict.
Theme and motif.
Effective climax and resolution.
Consistent writing style - tense, active not

passive voice.
d) Score short-story according to rubric.
4) Sub-editing committee discusses suggestions. (5 minutes)
5) Writer makes necessary revisions.
6) New sub-committee formed.

7) Chief editors critique 2 stories per day. Review group progress with

Matt & Sofia.
