Aim
1) Analysis of a non-conventional shaped
high-rise building with soft storey at different
level.
2)To compare different parameters like storey
shear, over turning moment, displacement,
mass irregularities etc.
3)Design structural components of building.

Gandhinagar Institute of Technology : Department of Civil Engineering

TYPES OF STRUCTURAL IRREGULARITIES:

1. Vertical stiffness irregularity
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

Weight (mass) irregularity

Vertical geometric irregularity
In-plane discontinuity
Out-of-plane offsets
Discontinuity in capacity (weak storey)
Torsional sensitivity
Non-orthogonal systems

Gandhinagar Institute of Technology : Department of Civil Engineering

Mass Irregularities (Mass):

Mass irregularity will be induced by the presence of a heavy mass on a floor,
say a swimming pool. Note that the mass irregularity in IS1893 has been
defined when weight of a floor exceeds twice the weight of the adjacent floor.
NEHRP defines it when the weight exceeds 150% of that of the adjacent
floor.

Vertical Geometric
Irregularities:
Horizontal dimension of the SFRS in
a storey > 130% of that in any
adjacent storey. (one-storey
penthouse excluded)
