Jim Moran represents Northern
Virginia's 8th District – including
Arlington, Alexandria, Falls Church
and Reston -- in the United States
House of Representatives. A mem-
ber of the important House Appro-
priations Committee, he is Chair of
the Interior, and serves on both the
Defense and Foreign Operations
Subcommittees. He co-chairs the
Congressional Prevention Caucus,
leads the Task Force on Sovereign
Wealth Funds, and was a co-
founder of the New Democratic
Coalition.
An outspoken advocate against the
misguided mission in Iraq, Jim
voted against the war from the be-
ginning, even co-authoring the De-
mocratic alternative that would
have prevented it.

Congressman Moran‟s political
career began in 1979 when he was
elected to the Alexandria City
Council. Jim became the Vice-
Mayor three years later and served
in that capacity until 1985, when he
was elected Mayor. His first run for
Congress was successful, joining the
House of Representatives in 1990.
Jim Moran is a graduate of Holy
Cross, where he majored in eco-
nomics. He went on to earn his
