Questions asked to Honble Justice Swatanter Kumar

1. When we have full and fledged Ministry of Environment. Do we really need
NGT? What are the power and jurisdiction of the NGT?
2. Sir, do you believe that green tribunal should have more powers as more and more
cases are registered with the tribunal. Also do you feel any challenges dealing
with state and central government due to federal structure.
3. Is NGT a toothless body like Press council . which only issues directives? How
far the decision of NGT are binding and are implemented? The directions are
issued from time to time, but is it also a body like press council which does not
have any teeth. Does Ministry of Environment has superceding powers ?
4. Do you believe that NGT and government are on different planes as far as
clearances of Govt projects are concerned?
5. Media has given mixed relations on Okhla bird sanctury, as construction in UP is
stopped but not in Delhi. How do you respond to it?
6. What are the other challenges faced by the tribunal? Is it accessible to the
commom man? What are the measures taken by tribunal for fast disposal of cases.
7. You have been on pollution board for long. What is your take on Odd- even
formula. Will it be a success if applied for long time?
8. Your valuable advice for us to do our bit for green evvironment?
World Book Fair 2016: Learning through Assignments
New Delhi: The annual World Book Fair would be one wish that any avid reader would ask for.
However, this event has also turned out to be a destination for assignments as well.. The first
year students of Journalism and Mass Communication, from Vivekananda Institute of
Professional Studies were given an assignment, to write a report on World Book Fair. The
purpose of this assignment was to help the students, to understand the concept of reporting and
news writing. With this assignment, the students got a taste of how it is like to work on field.
They were assigned different themes, which helped them to cover the fair. The themes were
authors corner, publication division, children's section, Kindle stall and many more.
According to Shaifali Saini, a student This book fair gave us a plethora of opportunities to
finish up with the assignment. Until now, I used to go to the book fair only because of my love
for books but, this time it was a tad bit professional as I got to explore varied angles. This
assignment also taught the students to be observant in order to have a nose for news, and helped
them to come out of their shell.
I found the assignment quite interesting. After doing this assignment, I would definitely
want to be a reporter as, it gave me a chance to interact with different people. says Tusheeta
Kaushik, a strident. Apart from the regular classroom lectures, the students found this assignment

quite useful and encouraging, as not only they got an insight to what reporting is but they had a
chance to function as a reporter.

Surajkund Activity:
Surajkund Fair 2016: Scrutinizing the Cultural Heritage of India
Surajkund Fair is known for its splendid overview of the diversity in culture, custom, and
traditions of different states of India. Organized by the Ministry of tourism, Government of India,
it witnesses lakhs of tourists every year in Faridabad, Haryana. More than 400 students from
Vivekananda School of Journalism and Mass Communication witnessed this grand handicrafts
fair on 5th February 2016.
The hand knitted jute beds, baskets, making of flour from wheat in traditional chakki and
many more were displayed this year. The theme state was Telangana. Students from different
semesters learnt practical skills of doing photography in the field. The colours, decoration and
music provided an excellent opportunity to learn the techniques of video production and sound
recording. They took interviews from different craftsman about their stalls and the speciality of
handicraft items from their respective states. Apart from this, they got exposure to the traditional
living style, food, clothing, folk songs and dances belonging to different cultures of the country.
The department facilitated the instruments like camera, recorders, mikes along with transport and
tickets of the students as well as faculty.

VSJMC students participated in Panel Discussion on
One year completion of Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi

Date: 13.02.16
Place: News World India Studio, Film City , Noida
Topic of Discussion: One year completion of Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi
Organization: News World India ( 24*7 News Channel)

About the Discussion: A clean sweep win of Aam Aadmi Party in the recent Delhi Assembly
elections has been the talk of the town. The panel discussion focused on its performance in its
first year. 30 students from Vivekananda School of Journalism and Mass Communication
participated in it. In accordance with its name as Mahapanchayat, the show featured heated
arguments from six panelists - Mr.Abhishek Dutt from Congress,Mr.Garg from BJP,Mr.
Ashutosh from AAP,Mr.Pankaj Pushkar from AAP who has recently turned its opponent along
with two eminent journalists Mr.Vinod Agnihotri with Mrs. Neerja Choudhary. Issues like
getting Delhi the status of a state, providing electricity at half rates saw a series of allegations,
blames and defence by different panelists . The debate was concluded on the note that AAP will
surely complete all their promises in their tenure at Delhi.
Outcome: The discussion was worth experience for the young brains of BJ(MC) Semester
who participated in the debate. Along with getting updated about the current political scenario of
Delhi, the students got opportunity to interact with political personalities and journalists.
Considering their being at the level of beginners in the professional course of journalism and
mass communication, it was a golden opportunity for them to observe and understand the aspects
and personnel involved in the production of a news- based show. Also, their participation in the
form of asking questions or giving their logics instilled a sense of confidence in them.

Place: News World India Studio, Film City , Noida
Topic of Discussion: Environmental Effects on Yamuna caused by World Culture Festival
Organization: News World India ( 24*7 News Channel)
About the Discussion: The panel discussion focused on the issue of possible environmental
effects of the World Culture Festival organized by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on the banks of Yamuna.
25 students from Vivekananda School of Journalism and Mass Communication participated in it.
The program started with a Video report showing how the festivities all around the country on
the river banks degrades aspects of the environment like affecting the groundwater recharge, the
water in the rivers themselves being far below the standards of human consumption. The

discussed like the black money hoarding crisis that most high profile individuals in the country
seemed to be involved in and their having a monopoly in all industries and sections and holding
great political influence that was witnessed in this festival. The heated logics given by panelists
talked about the availability of permissions to use an 'active flood-plain' and an eco-sensitive
area and involvement of civic bodies like DDA . The discussion was concluded on the point that
should be no exceptions when it comes to following the law.
Outcome: The discussion provided a platform for the students to understand and examine the
role, functions and reports of various authorities and bodies like National Green Tribunal, Delhi
Development Authority along with different ministries and satte governments. Moreover, the
discussion proved to be a fabulous combination of the provisions in the field of law, judiciary,
civic bodies and media for the students of journalism.. The students interacted with the panelists

Vivekananda School of Journalism and Mass Communication organised a panel dicussion

on Juvenile Delinquency. The event was organized in VIPS auditorium on March 16,
2016(Wednesday) from 02p.m- 03:30p.m. The event was sponsored by Pehal- zindagi ki ore
NGO.
Crime by juveniles is a harsh reality in India. In recent times juveniles were found to be
involved in most heinous of the crimes such as murder and gang rape. Many experts believe that
the present law is inadequate to deal with the situation and we need changes in it so that for
heinous crimes juveniles may also be tried and punished as adults. But there are views in
opposition as well which do not subscribe to this view. It is not that we are not aware of such
issues which exist in our society. What is lacking is the part where we are only restricting
our ideas to the social networking sites. We need to communicate and discuss about such issues
in a healthy environment. The event provided an opportunity to explore the topic .
The esteemed panelists were

Nirbhayas Mother Mrs.Asha Dev

Legal expert Mrs. Manju Abraham Pattiyani : Lawyer in Supreme Court with work
experience of over 25years.

Social activist Mr. Navneet Shastri : a social activist who works for the protection of
women rights.
