Vital signs
are measurements of the body's most basic functions. The four main vital
signs are: body temperature, pulse rate, respiration rate (rate of
breathing), blood pressure

ECG (or EKG)- Echocardiogram


is a simple and useful test which records the rhythm and electrical activity
of your heart

Catheter
is a thin tube inserted into the body to treat diseases or perform a surgical
procedure. Can be used to drain urine (urinary catheter).

Pressure Sore/ Pressure Ulcer/ Bedsore


is an area of reddened skin that progresses to breakdown of skin and
underlying tissue to form sores and ulcers

Dementia
is a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain
disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes,
and impaired reasoning

Alzheimers
is a progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age,
due to generalized degeneration of the brain. It is the commonest cause
of premature senility

Palliative Care/ End of Life Care


is a multidisciplinary approach to specialised medical care for people with
serious illnesses. It focuses on providing patients with relief from the
symptoms, pain, physical stress, and mental stress of a serious illness

Basic Care

is the collective name for assisting a patient with personal care (hygiene,
toilet needs, and comfort) and tasks such as eating or drinking

Geriatric care/ Elder Life Care


is the process of planning and coordinating care of the elderly and others
with physical and/or mental impairments to meet their long term care
needs

Care plan
is an agreement between you and your patient to help you manage their
health day to day

Care home
an institution providing accommodation and care for people who are
unable to look after themselves
