2K) engages students in the processes of critical thinking and inquiry


and addresses standards of evidence of the disciplines;

2K) This class is a real world financial class. The students are
learning how to read and understand insurance coverage information,
a budget, a bank statement, a paycheck, a W2, a credit card statement
and a credit report by terms end. Today was this groups first day of
class and the teacher spent the first hour quizzing them on a
consumer pre-test to see what the students already understood about
these items. He would ask them questions that would make them
think like, If you had $20,000 and you wanted to buy a car and the
bank will charge you 5% interest but there is a money market
account in the bank that offers 10% interest what should you do?
There were no performance activities for this class. It was testing for
half the class and the other half was just lecture.

The teacher seemed nice and easy-going but there was so much
testing and lecture and no real student participation other than
responding to direct questions. I was a little disappointed because
the other teachers let me be much more involved and help more.
Other than making some copies I just sat and listened. I wonder if
he will eventually allow the students to get more involved?
