THE AGENT
Chapter 1
I saw the commercial on television a few times, and never really thought about calling
it. Ive only been writing for two years now and its my new hobbyits relaxing. Ever
since the first book (short story), I found out that I had more to say and it looks very
interesting when I write it down on paper. Im actually learning as I go. You know,
practice, practice, and practice. Maybe someday I just might become a great novelist.
I would like to try my hand at writing a movie. Something short romantic and funny.
Like the stuff I grew up watching and fell in love with. Scenes that are wholesome (not
revealing everything) and are left to the audience imagination. Giving folks the
opportunity to see themselves inside the script, and making choices if they were the
actors, and writing their own ending. But indeed laughing along the way. For instance,
the young lady tries to count the many coins in her purse, on her way to the store, just to
buy cake mix to bake a cake. When theres a bakery in her neighborhood. Right next door
to her in fact and the goods there a half the price. The owner of the store needs the change
for his register, because he only has large bills. They meet and fall in love.
Or maybe something like, the guy goes to his mailbox to get the mail, but every time he
does theres this pretty girl outside standing beside it. So each day, hes thinking of ways
to say hi to her, without looking like a dork he began to dress a little dapper. He finally
does and a strong wind blow. She falls down. And he realizes that shes just a cut out
figure used for advertisement. They met and fell in love.
Yep, this writing thing is an adventure and it can take you anywhere you want to go.
And I love it! Now back to that commercial, I saw it again one evening, wrote down the
phone number and this time I made the call. I spoke to a representative and he then
transferred me to the Agent. Hi he said as he introduced himself, and told me all about
the company. When he said his name and what he does there, I felt really blessed to have
a moment of his time. And besides he was a straight talker. I also knew that I was
speaking with the right person about getting my books published.
I told him a little about myself and explained to him that I was looking to turn my
hobby into a business. I then I said to him that I am the author of short stories and have
written a few so far. We continued to talk and he then said what are you going to do with
a hundred copies? If I send you a hundred copies, what are you going to do with
them? And I quickly replied I would go to every bookstore, library, college campus and
university within my area and introduce myself as the writer, and sell or leave a copy
with everyone I meet I would get the word out about my work. Not to mention the
local newspaper stand, radio station, internet and every source of media available. Im an
extrovert, so talking is easy. I also have some sales experience. And I like people.
And then he said to me Im going send a starter kit out to you, and told me what to
look for in the mail. Send me a copy of your best work he concluded. And I said to him
Ill send you about seven copies of my work, simply because they are all short stories,
most of them are only three chapters long. Weve copyrighted some and designed the
covers already but would very much like to see them in print you know something

tangible. Towards the end of our conversation He said Ill let you know, Ill be in
touch. He was a very nice guy and a pleasure to talk to.

Chapter 2
Two week later the package came, and I didnt open it right away. I looked at it and put
it up on the shelf. I was very excited that it did, just thought and prayed about it for a few
days. When I had the time to sit and read over the information, I got my glasses from my
purse and carefully opened the envelope. To me, it was like opening something sacred.
This was my opportunity. Do I have what it takes to be a creative writer? Is it good
enough to be in circulation? And can I perhaps make a financial living from this talent?
Im going to find out soon.
I sat at the computer and sent the transcripts. I waited to hear again from this nice
gentleman. And about a week later he called. I was in my car driving at that time and
couldnt answer it, but as soon as I got home I did. I left a message on his voicemail. He
returned my call the next day and said Your stories are too short, no ones going to pay
sixteen ninety-nine for a brochure Maybe we could combined all the stories together
and put them in one book. Then I laughed very hard out loud because he was echoing
what my kids had already suggested.
I agreed and felt comfortable with that idea, and was hopeful that he could make it
happen. I have a meeting with the others and Ill get back to you He said. Ok I said.
Then I told him of my new little book Ive just written and asked if he could include that
story in the volume. Sure, send it to melet me give you my email address, send it
directly to me He said. And that was that! This completed our conversation. As I sat the
phone down on the bookshelf in the bedroom, for a split second there, I felt like a
successful writer. You know, me talking with the Agent and all, wow! Hes the important
someone that is recognizing my work.
It would be a delight to walk through the shopping malls and to see my book in the
stores window. Also and to actually see folks holding my book in their hands and reading
it. That would be a so real moment. Id probably blush, because it is a love. To know that
people everywhere are reading about my true life experiences and understanding who I
am and where I came from.

Chapter 3
I am very grateful to the Agent who answered the phone that day I called. I still dont if
this is my big break into the business (because I havent heard anything further yet), but
its a start. And I am happy about it. Ive spoken with a brilliant mind in this profession.
And he knows who I am an author of short stories. Thats more than I could say about
the social media Ive advertized on for the last two years. And nobody was tuning in, hah!

So, from this point on, I could truly say to my friends and family that someone out there
has read my book. And yes, I got potential. And Im not giving up, Im going to keep on
writing, and encourage others to do the same. You could be the next best seller! It simply
depends on what the world wants to hear at the moment.
If you are an artist of musicplay on.
If you are an artist of dancestep on.
If you are an artist of anythinggo on.

I dedicate this little book to The Agent who is also an Angel. Thanks, I appreciate you.

To all my readers
God bless and prosper,
Kertranka
