Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Thepurposeofthisstudywastoevaluatethefeasibilityof
constructingagedependantcephalometricstandardsforwhitesubjectsbyusing
3datasets.
METHODS: ThedatasetswerethesamplesfromtheFelsLongitudinalStudy
(UnitedStates),theMichiganGrowthStudy(UnitedStates),andtheNijmegen
GrowthStudy(TheNetherlands).The3mixedlongitudinalsamplesprovided
datafor218girlsand231boysbetween9and14yearsofageandwere
comparedbasedon4cephalometricangles:SNA,SNB,ANB,andSN/GoMe.
Curvefittingandstatisticalcomparisonswereperformedwithmultilevelmodeling
procedures.
RESULTS: All4anglesshowedlinearchangesovertime.SNAandSNB
increased,whereasANBandSN/GoMedecreased.Basedonpairedsample
comparisons,thesamplesdisplayedstatisticallysignificant(P<0.05)differences
for50%ofthegrowthvelocitiesand8%to17%oftheintercepts(sizeofthe
angleat11years).TheSNAandSNBanglesshowedsmallandinconsistent

thanintheother2samples.TheNijmegenandFelsgirlshadthegreatestand
theleastdecreases,respectively,intheSN/GoMeangle.Mostsample

CONCLUSIONS: Basedonthegrowthdifferencesidentified,weconcludedthat
