Dear Congressman Rodney Davis.

As your constituent Im writing this letter to you today to urge her support in a further
revision to the Illinois domestic violence act of 1986. The revisions in this act have gone
a long way in protecting Illinoisans from being victims of domestic violence. As a victim
of domestic violence I greatly appreciate all the hard work that Illinois lawmakers of
done to ensure this safety of its citizens. But I feel that further revision needs to be
done, it seems that theres a terrible trend in Illinois where in fact the United States were
victims of domestic violence will go to court and simply drop the charges that were
brought against their abuser. I feel that this waste valuable court resources and police
manpower, I understand that with this revision in 1986 that the state is began picking
these charges up even when the abused tries to drop them. But I feel that there should
be consequences for those who make these reports have these abuses arrested and
then refuse to prosecute. I grew up in a very abusive home I saw my stepfather
repeatedly abuse my mother as well as us children. The police will be called by
neighbor or some other concerned citizen and they would come and arrest him, taking
him away for the weekend. Only to have my mother go to court on Monday and drop the
charges. This happened for many years was an ongoing thing that we can would calm
they would drink they would fight the police would come he would go to jail and come
Monday morning she would be there to drop the charges and the cycle will begin to get
a new. I feel there should be consequences I think it should run along the lines of filing a
false police report maybe they should go to jail but there should be a fine stating that
you wasted the police and the courts time. I feel that at the very least this law needs to
be revised stating that if you are a victim of domestic violence and your children are

victims of the same domestic violence and you choose to go to court and drop the
charges against the abuser that the abuser and yourself should we charge with the
reckless endangerment of the children. I feel that the revisions to this law made in this
manner would stop wasting the precious time of the court and of law enforcement. As
well as protect the most vulnerable in our society children those who dont have a voice
of their own, so that the parent cant needlessly put them back in danger from
misguided loyalty to a person who does nothing but abuse them.

Sincerely
Jeffrey Williams
