Description

ACADEMICSTANDARDS:
1.Studentswilluseappropriateunitsofmeasureforfindinglength,perimeter,area
andvolumeandwillexpresseachquantityusingtheappropriateunit.
2.Studentswillinvestigatethefeaturesoftheprocessofscientificinquiryand
demonstratemasterybyworkinginpairstoinventaproductandshowthedesign
processasinfluencedbyscientificinquiry.
3.Thestudentunderstandsandacquiresnewvocabularyandusesitcorrectlyin
readingandwriting.Studentswillpreassessandpostassessatthebeginningand
endofeachunit,assessmentswillbeelectronicandcontainselectedresponseas
wellasconstructedandextendedresponses.
4.Studentswilllearnthebasicsofdesigninasoftwareprogram(AdobeIllustrator
and/orCoreldraw)anddesignsimpleproductsintheprogram(s).Studentswill

postedinLMS.
2. CategoriesofTechnology

presentationonachosenareaoftechnologyinpairsandpresentduringa
synchronoussession.

Studentswillreviewunitsofmeasurement,and
createtheirownrulersandshowmasteryofmeasurementthroughtasks
andassessment.
4. Rocketry
Studentswilllearnaboutpartsofarocket,whatmakesthemfly,
andtheforcesthatactonthemduringflight.Studentswillcreateamockup
inCoreldraworAdobeIllustratoranddetailedplanforarocket.

creatingdesignsolutionsthroughtheIterativeDesignProcessandworkwith
apartnertoinventaproductanddetailthedesignanddesignprocesswithin
agroupofthreeandpresenttheirproductinasynchronoussession.
7. Towers
Studentswilllearnthehistoryanddesignfactorsoftowersand
theirconstruction.Afterlearningfoundationalinformation,studentswilllearn
constructiontechniques,andwillparticipateinavirtualtowerdesignbuilding
competition.

GradingPolicy

Allmissedworkandassessmentsarethe
responsibilityofthestudent
whenthey
areabsentfromschool.Astudentwhoisabsentontheclassdaybeforearegularly
scheduledassessmentwillberesponsibleforcompletingtheassignmentonthe
regularlyscheduleddayandtime.Studentswhohavebeenabsentmorethantwo
consecutivedays(includingtheassessmentday)willbegivenfive(5)schooldays
tomakeuptheassessmentand/orotherassignments.Thisdoesnotincludemajor
projects,researchpapers,etc.,wherethedeadlinehasbeenpostedinadvance.It
isthestudentsresponsibilitytoseetheteacherbefore,orafter,classtorequestor
submitlateassignmentswhenabsent.Theteacherhasthediscretiontogranta
longerperiodoftimetomakeupworkifthereareextenuatingcircumstances.
Missedworkandassignmentswillbescoredasmissinginthegradebookand
studentsareresponsibleforinitiatingremediationworkasoutlinedbelow.
GRADINGANDREPORTING:
Studentsingradessixthrougheightreceivegradereportsonaquarterlybasis
throughouttheschoolyear.Gradereportsareissuedatthe9,18,27and36week
points.Thereportsincludeanumericalaverageforthegradingperiodaswellasa
formativeandsummativegradebreakdown.Toformulatetheaverage,thegrades
areweighted80%summativeand20%formative.Inaddition,thereportsincludea
threepointrubricdefiningWorkHabitsthatimpactstudentachievement.

Teacherswillofferremediationassignmentsand/orremediation(help)sessions
and/orindividualremediationsessionsforstudentswhofailtomeettheobjectives
ofthestandardscoveredinthecurriculum.Studentsmayrequesttoredomissing
workorworkwhichresultedinagradeof69%andbelowforamaximumgradeof
70%,withinthegradingperiodinwhichtheassignmentoccurred.Teachers
may
extendthetimeperiodallowedbasedonextenuatingstudentand/orteacher
circumstances.

gradedassummativegrades,rubricswillbeprovidedattheonsetofeach
weeklytopic.
