Lynch's work, if not his name. As a
member of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers

Lynch has contributed to

memorable music tracks. Stan has also

and his friend Don Henley. What follows

are excerpts from the article. The

By far, Lynch's most productive working
relationship has been the one with
Henley. The pair co-wrote and coproduced "Learn to Be Still" from the
Eagles' reunion album, Hell Freezes
Over, and together they crafted four

songs

for Henley's Actual Miles

"Garden of Allah".

"He's one of the funniest people I ever

met," Henley said about Lynch. "And
that is very important when you've been
in the studio for two or three months,"
Henley continued, "l remember when my
group broke up--l went through an entire
gamut of emotions, from anger to fear to

other musicians, notably, Don Henley

that something of a life raft for you?
Danny Kortchmar had recently made the
jump from "Leroy" or session guy. He
said that at one point it boils down to

you're either doing someone else's thing,

or you're doing your own thing. ln life. So
he had made the decision, in his mid-3Os,
to no longer do other people's things.
Kootch was super-bohemian, and I stayed
at his house three days--people were
coming in and out, I met Russ Kunkel and
Jim Gordon, The refrigerator was always
open, and Kootch's girlfriend knew lots of
other beautiful girls. lt was really free, and
I was coming from a scene where it really
wasn't sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Or if
it was, it was really very private. This was
my kind of guy! We put together a metal
band called Diik and recorded a bunch of
songs,
He was making a record with Henley and
they threw me a track and said, "!Ve're
looking for some words." That was "Drivin'
With Your Eyes Closed."

What was Henley's reaction to the news

(of Lynch's leaving the Heartbreakers)?

Well, he knew. Don's an intuitive man,

and he's my friend, He was one of the first
calls I made. I said, "l think l've lost my job
playing drums." I flew to Colorado that
night and spent the week with him. And
we talked it out, He was very generous; he
gave me his time.
I

told Kootch and without missing a beat he

said,

"l think you've just been given a

promotion."

Glenn's of

. .acting that is. Glenn has a small, but important

role in the new Tom Cruise movie, Jerry Maguire,
Most of us had heard about Glenn's most recent
foray into acting and have been anxiously awaiting
this movie's release. We were expecting Glonn to
just have a cameo. lmagine our delight and
surprise when we saw that Glenn's character is not
only named, but also allowsd four wardrobe
changes!

Glenn plays Dennis Wilburn, owner of the Arizona

Cardinals (a football team if you're sports ignorant
like us). Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise) is the agent of
one of Glenn's players. Glenn's first scene is about
an hour into the movie, We see him attending a
spring training workout. Being the owner, he blows
off Maguire. We see him again on the phono with
Jerry. Glenn is given, in our opinion, a very
unflattering camera angle, Glenn's wardrobe
ranged frorn good looking polo shirts and Khaki's to
a very unattraetive suit wiih a pink shirt. Guess
football owners don't know how to dress either.
How did Glonn do? Well, since he was on screen
for less then five minutee total, it had to be hard to
me6s up, As in most of his previous acting roles,
Glenn basically played himself. This is most
apparent in his last scene with 0ruise. After you
see the movie, you'll know what we mean!

Also appearing in the movie as the brother of Jerry

Maguire's one and only client is Aries $pears.

Most of us know him from his role as Ziggy on
South of Sunset. lt's good to eee him working

again.
Overall, we thought the film was pretty

good

Heck,

we found ourselves thinking Tom Cruise looked

almost attractive in his jeans and stubble! We may
even have seen this movie without Glenn Frey"

Haywire is sofia dedicated to all the young kids

The name of the alhum is Airborne which is a

kind of a little bit of a longue in cheek. The front
of the album has this $tratr:caster kind of drifting
down, suspendeci by a parachute out in the
desert where the Twilight Zone was filmed. We
were originally gonna take and superinrpose, up

tfiat are in the age of 13-16 who ara yet to

experience their first sexuul encountsr. And

in the left hand cornsr, the side of a troop

transport plane with a shooting insignia called
$creaming Eagles. it k:oks hypothetically like
just bailed autta one sltuation (ha ha) and was
about to arrive in another. So, I felt like having
a significant correlation between me and Eagles'
advertising on ihe recorci jacket wasn't really

so I

scraped the aircraft

$creaming Eagles insignia on it and just went

with the guitar and the parachute...and to a
eertain extent tried cleliberately to not make an
album that sounded like the Eagtes and what the
Eagles would do in 1980, .Some of the songs
that are on this record are sons$ that I had
originally written for the L.ong Run album and
through the course of one event o politics or the
taste of making fi group decision on material,
didn't wind up on that record; so I stuck them on
the shelf and just finished them for myself One
of the songs was "Bad Girls" That song and a
song called "Haywire" were ones that I had
originally written for The Long Run and didn't
quite fit the Eagles mold or Eagles sound or
adaptablility.

High ihat I wrote with Kenny Loggins. lt's really a
song about people that are young, going out on
Saturday night looking for fun and thrills and
whatnot and find themselves very easer to get
involved in relationships with people that are very
transparent and whatnot, lt's the people who
really never settle for that type of relationship and
who hold out for that magic person and literally
never surfender for less than that,.. people like
myself and Loggins that actually do find someone
to be with
I think it's nice to write about human
situations You carr write a song that deals with a
key huinan emotion that a lot of people
experience and the two most popular themes of
rock n roll are love and sex (ha ha). A lot of
people seem to relate to that and if , in fact, you

The Hotel California has existed for 20

years in the hearts and minds of millions
of fans of supergroup The Eagles, but it
took two Chinese-Australian architects
to bring the building to life.

The mystery deepens with the discovery

of the hotel's disappointing wine

list.

"We haven't had that spirit here since

1969," the waiter comments. Weird
voices are heard in the darkness,

Sydney architects Paul Peng and Sam

Guo won this year's international
Graphisoft Association of Collegiate
Schools of Architecture competition with
virtual reality rendition

group's 1976 hit song.

California came easily to him, "l love the
music from that era. As a ChineseAustralian growing up in the '70s and
'80s, the Hotel California was closer to
me than, say, a castle or temple from
European history,"
Peng's first step was to look for clues in

Thejaddo Lake-IqWq reports that the

Caddo Lake institute has leased the
Longhorn Army Ammunilion plant for

wetlands research. Don Henley,

founder of the lnstitute, says it will be
used as an outdoor classroom and

world-class scientisis will be brought in

to study the Caddo Lake

ecosystem,
The lnstitute will pay $10,000 a year to
lease the land and will have the option to

buy the land at the end of the 30 year

lease.
